Looking through the BST threads and seeing every clothing/outerwear piece being L-XXXL is lowkey annoying. I know the trend originated from wanting to seem "gangster" but there is fucking NOTHING gangster about doing a white-guy-saturated snow sport on a mountain. It's gnarly, of course, but I wouldn't call it gangster. Plus there's nothing kooky about wearing shit that's form fitting as long as it looks cool.
No disrespect to the ability of Edollo and others like him though. I'm just not into the style.

I think Jake Mageau makes that style of skiing look the best

I've seen vids of young Pollard and I get that the dude is obviously skilled as fuck but sometimes those bc videos seem ironically underwhelming to me.

Places like Killington claim to have huge amounts of vertical but even superstar has only 1200 and the summit 1650. These places can be a waste of time, if I wanted to ski 1200 vertical I would go to black mtn not killy.

Ive skiied a few laps on them and the only redeeming feature they have is that theyre super light and easy to do swaps. theyre unstable as shit, shits simply wayyyy too soft. Hell alot of the "new wave" stuff I see now , was stuff I saw line tc do like 6 years ago . All it did was make me go "I never knew skiing could look like that ", and I think it's dumb to hate on that . All the new stuff coming out now is progressing skiing and making it look fun . I'd bet real money more people whove never seen any skiing , would be intrigued by skiing and wanting to try , if you showed them that popular clip of Magnus that people are hating on now . If you showed them some guy throwing dubs, crazy tech rail tricks, or Tanner hall double backflipping a crazy cliff , they wouldn't care or feel drawn to it .

13965107:GrandThings said:I agree that Magnus' skiing is more approachable. (Easier to hit a park bench than a 40 foot cliff)
But I think you're incorrect in that Magnus gets greater exposure or brings more people into the sport. The same people consuming his content are the same people watching Tanner Hall. Freeskiing is incredibly niche and arguably, projects with high production value (like Here After) are the edits more commonly watched by those not yet into skiing.
The nuances Magnus' skiing are incredibly difficult but the shuffles, butters, rail combos he does are not the type of skills noticed by people who dont already ski. In fact, I think it has the opposite effect as to what you're saying. He's a top level pro and the content he puts out is pretty cringy to watch. I dont think people who dont already ski would have any interest in watching a Bunch film, but everyone can appreciate someone hucking a double backy or dropping a huge cliff
13965110:midwesternmaniac said:Well I guess my argument is for appreciation vs approachability , I think at least personally seeing some simple unique manuevres get me more interested because my brain goes "hey maybe I could do that ". Not so much on a dub backflip . And yeah Magnus alone isn't the best example but regardless of who you pick ,I think "creative skiing" would cause more people to see skiing in a new way, than simply going huge . Lots of people watch clips of extreme sports and don't really care even if they appreciate it . But if they see something they could maybe do , they might be more inspired to get started ? If you feel where I'm coming from . I'm pretty sure what made me wanna ski was watching Andy parry do a ski slide 180 out off some stinky hand built rail ... Prior to that I'd seen a bunch of tgr clips, pipe runs , etc. I think the unexpected stuff is always more inspiring
13965138:GrandThings said:Totally. Those early LTC episodes were the perfect blend of style/approachablity and gnar, deff agree with you there. They were one of the major reasons I stopped snowboarding and started skiing.
I just feel like Magnus is a little too 'out there' now for anyone to see his edits and be like "oh I want to do that." I just feel like if he cleaned up the style a little bit he'd be even more dope. I think LSM is a great example of this.
And, FWIW Magnus' part in Less is one of my favorite segments ever
