The Stoked Thread

I need to reiterate how good those graphics are for the ON3P's dude. I had 4 people yesterday say they were awesome.

Can you guys keep me posted on this one? I may throw Evan Grott (Steve you met him @ K when we were up there) and myself and whoever else I can scrounge up that doesn't suck in the car and head for Grunts if it's going to go nuclear.

I just presented my final project plan (design a mini-ski magazine built entirely of my own original photography, to put a long story short) to my class today. They think I'm fucking nuts. Rochester is over 300 miles from VT, and I'm going up there every weekend between now and March....... hahahaha!

Oh and I'm watching That's it, That's All for like the 5th time in as many days, holy shit.

New 17" MacBook Pros announced today. Matte screen option. 8 hour battery. Pure sexiness. I have absolutely no use for one as I have yet to explore the boundaries of my 1st gen MacBook Air, but damn is it sweet looking.

Photo/Video Gallery is coming in time. I want to really work on my photo skills this winter (you'll see some of that work this week during the Mt Snow Dew Tour articles).
Do you have any other tips for keeping people on the site longer? I understand posting/whatnot but this whole widget thing is entirely new to me.
And I fixed the photos up top. I think it looks better. Thanks so much for the feedback!

the widgets go on your sidebar, theres about a bajillion different ones. potentially more useful are the plugins. If you're doing tours ect gigpress might be worth checking out. its designed for touring bands, but if you're crafty you can use it for other things too. It would be a good way of listing upcoming events n shit.

Another thing I would consider doing is getting rid of the splash page. they don't really serve much purpose aside from annoying people (no offence). you'd probably be better off by shifting your wordpress directory to the root and creating a page in wordpress that is the default home page. this page could incorporate the photos you've got in your splash page, a bit of info about yourself and also have your latest/all your blog posts

I would probably get rid of the calendar in the sidebar too, at the moment its not really serving any purpose aside from taking up space.

the theme is also pretty wide, i'm guessing who ever designed it did so on a monitor wider than 1024 because it doesn't fit on an 800x600 screen. lots of dinosaurs still use that resolution. I realise the older audience probably isn't your target audience but that might be something to keep in mind - not everyone has a glossy widescreen monitor!

maybe change the name of 'blogroll' to 'links'?

more content = getting people to stay longer :p

maybe put some more stuff on your about page

video blogging could be money, I bet Jon had heeps of hits! you could do live updates from dew tour via your phone, that will keep people visiting your site. adding a short vid clip summary as soon as poss would also be good. people are always keen to get the latest as soon as possible, and the early bird gets the worm!

don't let your blog get too cluttered with widgets and plugins that aren't necessary either, you've gotta keep your site easy to navigate otherwise people won't hang around for longer than they have too.

sorry about that big spiel.. I'm at work waiting until its home time haha

Kinda makes the 15" unit unnecessary in the lineup...shoulda been a 17" in the beginning anyways

This has been a long time coming. I am happy to finally say, that I am fucking super stoked!

When life hands you lemons.. (travel plans for colorado cancelled due to ultra USFO lameness) You make Lemonade!

Nips and I are headed to Japan February 22nd for the Nippon Open in lieu of the US Open since they canceled slopestyle and since it occurs at the same time anyhow....

I

always thought I would go to South America or New Zealand before Japan

- but hey, why not! Flights are cheap now, 14 hours of nonstop out of Newark NJ and we are half way around the world in totally different culture sharing two things we will have in common, ok 3......... skiing, sushi and geishas!

Forecast changed as always. It's a sloppy ass mess outside right now. South facing windows are coated in ice.

I'm hunkering down and chilling here. Only day I have completely free is tomorrow.

/un-stoking the stoke thread

No not really. For some people the 13" MacBook is too small, and the uber-expensive 6.6lb 17" is too much. They do need to add the matte or "anti-glare" option to the 15.4" model as well though.

the price different is only $300 (2500 vs 2800)...if your going to spend that much on a laptop...saving 300 and getting the 15" is kinda a dumb move IMO. for the 300 more you get a faster processor (2.66 vs. 2.53), a much larger screen, a better battery...

The price on the 15" needs to drop about $200 to make it viable in the rest of the lineup...

The nearest equivalent is $300 less.

I've worked with both and the 17" is too big. The extra $300 is paying for the bigger screen. Manufacturing and sourcing costs are nearly identical for the 2 chips. I've never noticed a real difference using a chip that's 100 Mhz faster.

17" is too big for carrying around personally.. I'd be chocked if I had to bring a 17 inch macbook around.. 13 inch is perfect and 15 inch isn't to bad either.

All depends on your own preference.

2nd that. I personally think the 15" is too big, but I have one of the old 12" G4 powerbooks which is literally the size of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper when closed....... With all the neccessary ports, none of this Macbook Air shit.

Well ya. There are plenty of people out there who are more than happy with the stats of the entry level 15.4" Pro. And there are some who have to have the 17". What is cool though is the new top of the line 13" MacBook is kinda like a mini-MacBook Pro (and it only weights 4.5lbs), so the 12" Powerbook people can upgrade and hopefully be pretty happy.

Personally I am very happy with my MacBook air, I just wish they didn't change the DVI out/Display port thing. Oh, and they need to release new Cinema displays in both the 20" and 30" sizes and offer the matte/anti-glare for all 3. Then I just need a couple grand to buy one!

way better news than macs..

Holy Fuck! TJ Schiller's sister goes to my university! How did I not know this till now.. She is a first year.

New objective of the semester.. find Erika Schiller.

Just got an email from UPS that my Bibby's have cleared customs, which was a sweet surprise since I didn't know that the order had even been processed yet :)

Stoked to have gotten in at least a few days on snow over the recent holidays.

New years day at greek peak, and this past weekend in the pocahoes. It's a start anyway.

Elk Mountain, by far regarded as the gnarliest of the PA ski hills. Elk's Motto: Steepest and Highest in PA, just stay on the groomers or we'll take your pass!!!

Elk is a bad ass mountain. It was the one PARA event where at least 20% of the racers would DQ or DNF. I've had a few friends crash land in the woods, tumble into the spectator fence, or slide headfirst into the finish shack. If rugby's is the most bad ass straight guy's sport, ski racing is the most bad ass gay sport.
If I'm ever down that way, we'll have to go rip some groomers at Elk.

From Jay's site as of 1:15 pm today...
" 14-16" in the last 24 hours and heavy snow here at 1:15pm. Everything is great--Beaver Pond, Beyond Beaver Pond, Green Beret, wow. Can Am opens for the season tomorrow as well. Heavy snow is still hammering away and filling in. It's setting us up for an A weekend for sure."
If you guys wanna head up, gimme a ring. I've got room at my place. My cell's 8022330555. Normally it's free, but the guy who organized the house share will be up and is trying for $20/night from guests til he makes his $2k back (he fucked up organizing). But hey, you get to get trashed w/Mandy and me, ride the backyard park, and watch Randy get drunk and crash his car into a ditch.

Stopped raining, and I'm going to hang with the friends roommates tonight and smoke some hookah. I just got a new bad-ass cobra hose too.

A0004P.jpg

Yup. There's also the feeling of awesomeness cause you're smoking out of a hookah. It's different. Like toking on a corncob pipe.

If i've quit smoking cigarettes am i allowed to toke on a hookah or is that not allowed?

Is it the same as smoking a cigar - assuming i'm not allowed to do that, nor would i particularly want to..

Ok so I quit gambling. TO me, that meant I can't wager on ANYTHING ever again, but if I quit smoking cigarettes does that mean just no more cigarettes, or no smoke whatsoever gets sucked into my lungs?

I'd say no cigs, although I have never smoked cigarettes to begin with, so I wouldn't know if you'd get addicted to hookah or whatever.

I've smoked hookah for like 3 years, and have no problems with it, although we only smoke like once a week or 2
