The Stoked Thread

holy crap! that's a possibility!

I'm Rochester 6am tomorrow to head to Mt. Snow to try one last ditch angle to get creds @ Dew Tour. If that doesn't work out so well, I just might head up!

I like how this turned out... I'm making posters for the TOPP people as part of the internship.

^ the pillow hindered the view of your afterbang.

i dont know what the pixies put in their dust to make you envision things like that, but i like it.

No idea.

I do know from a ski builders aspect, that would be hard to do. The whole reason most skis are vertically laminated is to ensure there is no variance in the wood. In horizontally laminated piece, it is very hard to accomplish that, and to do it on a scale where you are making hundreds of these skis is impressive.

That, or they just aren't giving a shit about it.

Either way, I am excited. New things in ski construction are always interesting to me

Line is one of those companies that just tries shit. Look back at some of the skis they made in their history. Back with the original 1260. Look at how many symmetrical skis there are now? They were one of the first to get carried away with the fat ski revolution as well.

Sure they had a few flops as well, like the Reactor bindings.

Durability is a concern with Invaders, but at the same time, look at the price tag.

Oh, and earlier today I bought a new pair of skis to replace my Rossi Scratch BC that is a ski short of a pair right now as the other ski is floating around buried somewhere under the gondola on Killington Peak.

186cm Line Prophet 100's mounted with Look PX 12 bindings.

I'm excited to ski them as everyone raves about them.

IF YOU WOULD, DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THIS PHOTO ANYWHERE.

I made a thread about it in Gear Talk and basically just got a PM from Line demanding I take it down immediately and that I show them where I got it (from a 09/10 ski thread on tgr).

That was fast. They seemed pretty pissed.

It had definitely been tried. I even know home skibuilders who use it.

It is just tough to do perfectly because with wood that wide there is little inconsistencies in the wood that are very hard to account for, creating inconsistencies in the flex between one ski and another.

The whole reason skis are made with laminated blocks is to avoid this exact issue.

hmm i was wondering what new item line would come out with for next year.. the invader's getting a face lift, it appears that it's a tad wider than previously too, i'm curious to see how these turn out

I am not a fan of wood sidewalls, and I can't even count how many broken skate decks I've seen. I'm super leery of this until it is proven to work well and durably.

Screw plate binders, I'm currently very stoked on 916s. I have them 2 Din settings below what my STH are at, and they aren't prereleasing.

I called him out on it at one point, and had a lengthy pm discussion which convinced me that he's legit, but just comes off as cocky online for whatever reason.

Well PH, i return once again, but this time, my winter break is done and i sit here on my couch at home watching "that 70's show" drunk as hell thinking about how much i love skiing. I'm stoked because i've skied a ton of days this break and made some good money, hung out with friends and had a hook up or two. so rock on PH, I'm backkkkkkkkk

Dammit, I'm so into this 9/10 chick. Shes definitely still fucking her neighbor, and real friendly with him, which is a problem cause hes the guy she cheated on her BF of two years with. But beyond that, we get along so great and uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. Pity me and my unfortunate timing.

Also, I realize I now love girls that are nothing but trouble.

Mmmmm good day. Pow all morning. Got a little more ballsy than I normally am, which was sweet. Chatted up the Tahoe trip with Ryan Anderson on the chairlift. Man, he's yummy.

Man i miss you guys! I've been so freaking busy up here in Tahoe, not to mention my internet isn't workin a la casa... so... i'm stuck trying to find it other places... like people's driveways. ;)

I've been fucking loving life... skiing a shit ton, checking out different mountains up here. Been to Alpine, Squaw, Boreal, Northstar, Homewood, Sierra... ahhhhh so amazing.

I've been pushing myself on the jumps too... i ski mostly at Alpine and they really didn't have any medium sized jumps, which i wanted to start off on since i hadn't done any this season yet... but i decided to just go for it, and did the larger ones. First one i totally undershot, second i knuckled, third... like BUTTAH! :)

Sierra was a lot of fun with some cool lil parks, one in particular had three lil jumps in a row, the last being a step up. Fun fun fun.

Been practicing riding switch too... but yet to figure out how to integrate that into the jumps... help please. :D

Basically life has been a non stop blur since i've gotten up here, of partying skiing, and the occasional nap. ;) i'm having a blast and can't wait to share it with the peeps who are comin to the retreat. We do need snow right now tho, i'm prayin to the snow godessess fo sho. ;)

Lake View with the phone cam bitches!

^ lucky! hahaha

I had a wicked day skiing today...it was bluebird out and warmer then they forecasted and it was just awesome

although i lost my poles again so for the second or third year in a row im sans poles....grr

The moon is massive right now. For any of you west-coasters when it was coming up over the horizon tonight it was the size of a basketball. Seriously with the clouds magnifying it was one of the biggest moons I've ever seen and it's shady all yellow. I wish I had a nice telephoto lens camera right now, but I'm going to go dig out the old telescope.

well, I'm headed back to bozeman tomorrow. had a killer winter break, as much as I could ask for, and now I guess I have to get back to work.

was that the system where you could pivot the binding around or something..? I remember it had some type of plate system..

stoked for heath ledger's golden globe win for best supporting actor in the dark knight, he was definitely one of my favorite actors, and his performance in that movie was surely stunning.

I still own a pair of madtrix and they fucking kill it.

That swapable binding was straight bullshit though. Who the hell wanted to ride around with a smaller nose then tail? That didn't make any sense.

only took 20 minutes of determined clicking, but i got my pilot light going again. stupid gas fireplaces. i miss my parents' house. want a fire? go chop up some wood. but still, i can finally have fires again, now that the -20 degree weather is past.

Creepy, but that girl invaded my dreams last night. How often do you get a significant other that you dream of having within a painful arms reach?

And I'm going to Brauers (local bar I apparently tuned her on to) next week, she made me promise that. Seriously so bad though... just, UHG, wish she had a clean history.

I am aware of the Harvest moon effect. Here is a good article which summarizes the phenomenon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Illusion

For anyone that does any backcountry touring. I would highly recommend that you plan a trip in Feb or March during a full moon. The powder fields light up like no other and it is sheer Epicness!

Sunny, crisp and cold. I don't have work or any other responsibilities today.

Off to the mountain to rip around some, maybe hit some jumps again finally. It's been almost a year since I hit some good jumps.
