The Stoked Thread

starting my last semester of uni, not really sure if i'm stoked or what. i could really use another week of vaca but shit, this game is almost over!

seriously, it's a bit of a mixed feeling -- the world's not really sitting there with open arms but i'm definitely ready to move on. I think i want to find some sort of peace corps type thing, no longer in school, but still not completely on my own.

i'm not sure if i'd be ready to take on grad school at the moment.

im pretty sick of university at the moment but i realize the real world isn't going to be much better.

At least i'll be getting paid instead of paying to be at school...

in 99% of the jobs in the real world you can't decide at 10am your day sucks and sit on a lawn chair in your front lawn with a "you honk = i drink" sign.

your responsibility goes up 1000% and rewards down 1000%.

all the money you make goes to rent, bills, food.

you could have a fun job like ski patrol, but get paid minimum wage.

or have a high paying job, but be stuck inside in the corporate world and loathe your life.

you know how it seems like going to class for an hour or two ruins your whole day? now imagine having to go for 8-10 hours every day.

other than that, its not so bad.

all my cash goes to rent and bills anyways...

Besides...as a university student...im too fucking lazy and that needs to change....getting paid might help motivate me

My Prophet 100's shipped today, should be showing up at my work tomorrow.

Can't wait to try those things out on Wednesday.

Its not all bad if you balance things right.

I did 2 years of college, not for me.

Been in the full time corporate world now for 8 years, I may not make the most money but I enjoy the job enough that its not painful

I work 2 nights a week as patrol at one of the local hills, pay doesn't really get me anything more then offseting skiing for the season.

I do enough stuff that I love doing, ski almost every weekend all winter with a great crew, often road trips, and roll over to paddling in the summer. Every winter comes with a big trip somewhere for snow.

I know people who live in the grind and do nothing else and are miserable. I may not be able to ski all day everyday but far from corporate drone life

Same here. I don't hate my job, but I also don't want to do it for a super long time.

It's corporate. I wear jeans and a hoodie to work, can ski 4 days/week, get paid well, good benefits, and we just merged so now I get 26 days of vacation/year. I think the only downside is that the office manager is either hates or is scared of me.

I'm in Massachusetts doing a behind-the-scenes rail shoot article with Poor Boyz. It's for allisports.com - the home of the Dew Tour.
I'm super sick with a fever and feel like hell but at least its fun.

Prophet 100s are delivered! There are up at work (had them delivered there because wasn't sure I'd be home to sign for them).

I'm going to adjust them tomorrow and go rip them apart for a demo tomorrow.

Review surely to follow.

Those are fun skis, everyone I know who has had a pair really liked them. Of course, it seems most of them ended up on B-Squads shortly thereafter...but that doesn't seem like something you would want, so I bet you'll be super stoked to ride the Prophets.

so, lots has happened in the past week or so, but i'll make it short and sweet. Fred and i got in a big argument on the Strip one night (about 25-30 mins from our apartment) and he ended up bringing my dad into it, which i simply don't tolerate, so i left him there, went home, and went to bed. well, he sent my dad an email the next morning claiming that i owe him almost two grand for various expenses around the apartment. this is obviously bullshit seeing as i have yet to run out of money since i've been out here, but he's being insistant nonetheless. so, i ran into him the next day in the hallway, but haven't seen or spoken to him in over a week now. it's been amazing. him emailing my dad and subsequently calling him only pissed my dad right the fuck off and he basically told Fred to fuck off, so i'm getting my own place when my lease is up at the end of March. Fred apparently also bitched about how i've been taking a girl i know here out for drinks and stuff... well, Fred, you dumbass, my dad's a lady's man and sees taking women out as very important, so instead of telling me to stop, he threw me some extra money to take her out later this week. so Fred basically gave me a huge headache for about 36 hrs and life has since kicked ass (except for one night when Jandi was puking her brains out and i just wanted to be with someone all the way across the goddamn country...).
Tahoe in less than three weeks! stoked!

If the 100s were about 5cm longer they would have my vote as the best mass-produced all around ski on the market. They're awesome.

186 is the length I went with. They are not as stiff as my 185cm Scratch BC's which were tanks but dear god are they a ton lighter.

It'll be -5 tomorrow with 30mph winds, but I will still try them out for sure.

:)

I'm 6'0, 190 when naked. I can't go having a small all-mountain ski. Hell, my park skis are 178.

hurt my wrist today :( Last two days i've taken some pretty nasty falls on the jumps. Dunno what's up... yesterday i hit my head... HARD, saw some stars. Back for more tomorrow! :D haha.

take a break from the park for a day or too :P

I know when i start getting worked real bad all i need is a bit of a break

spelling and grammar...my kryptonite!

My one prof from last semester who I had for 2 classes wrote at the end of my final paper for one of them "Why do you continue to write in informal style? Do you get anyone else to proofread your work?"

Apparently this spills over into school work too...gah...i got b+...good enough for me

it's good advice... but conditions are crap right now... we need snow, but i got a wrist guard from a friend and a vicadin from another friend, so i should be set. :)

and i'm not sure the difference between two and too is really college level grammar. ;) hahaha.

as a ski patrol I encourage you NOT to wear the wrist protector (amusing its the ones with the plastic that roller bladers use). All it does is transfer the impact from your wrist to your lower arm and causes hairline fractures and/or full breaks. Best thing is to wrap them in thick athletic tape, tensor bandage or the neoprene/tensor style wrist supports.

As a retired, semi-pro rollerblader, I completely agree. They're designed for novice skaters who want to protect their palms from getting scraped. They offer almost no protection or support.
I've now shared a dark part of my past. I must go cry.

I will post a full review tomorrow, but in short...

The Line Prophet 100 is the best ski I have ever skied. It straight fucking RIPS the whole mountain apart.

right on steve....i'm also super stoked on my fatty lines that are bomb diggity east-coast all mtn skis (Blends, 90mm). Line figured out a nice all mtn flex for their fatties for sure.

Oh god yes. The best part about the Prophet 100s is that they are stiff enough to blast through stuff, but not stiff as boards so you can still flex them and have some fun. And they have a solid torsional flex and a good amount of sidecut, so they can carve very good and hold an edge on steep ice.

The skis is an absolute killer. Perfect East Coast all mountain ski IMO.

Word just came down that I don't have to patrol tonight since the hill decided not to open due to the minus fucking cold -40` weather.

Mounted up the Bibby's tonight and hopefully take them for a ride this weekend. Cut up my new skins for a water fall mission this weekend.

Alls good in the world of skiing here

Normally I chalk stuff like this up to people's mental bias towards wanting to think they just made the best possible purchase after they drop a lot of skrill on new sticks, but in your case you're probably right. I will need to replace (getting a little misty thinking about it) my Pistols next year and the list looks like this:

1. Line Prophet 100 186

2. K2 Obsethed 189

3. Armada JP vs. Julien 185

4. Whatever Scott happens to have if he has anything then

In no particular order. I think I would lean towards JPs... but then I am worried they'll be a little short for me what with the rocker.
