Oh I also took my FAA medical exam and found out my color blindness is minor enough that I can do any civilian flying. Time to see what the military has to say about it!

Dude congrats, the FAA can eat a sweaty dick. You got a branch/airframe in mind? I just got an opportunity to finish my degree and I'm also realizing that it'll give me a second chance at mil flying.

at least you’re wearing the mask so putting in some effort to not spread shit.

Helis are the easiest platforms to get into, but have less earnings potential once you're out. If you think you'll go career, fly whatever you like.

But if you want to become a commercial pilot, you definitely want a fixed wing platform. Something like a P-8 (737 derived) or KC-46 (767 derived) would be the most transferable, but it's not like fighter pilots are gonna have trouble getting hired by airlines either.

If you want to be a fighter pilot, the Navy/Marines are way easier to fly for than the Airforce. USAF has the coolest planes and you won't have to live on a ship, but they have much stricter eyesight requirements and it's overall more competitive. If you want to fly something big and slow, the Airforce is pretty much your only option. Either way, it's not easy. You're gonna have to work really hard and they'll put you through some serious shit (look up SERE School).

Beech and sugar got less rainfall than Maggie, Wayne’s and Henderson based off the numbers being reported. They’re also not as low lying as the for-mentioned. I’m going off the same things you are, locals reporting conditions and there just hasn’t been anywhere near the numbers of deaths you’re talking about anywhere across NC. Again I’m talking double the reported deaths of the entire storm just in one city alone. Even a single death is horrible and saddening across the board. Only time will tell where everything ends up. Just as someone who lives who lives

directly in these storms wake I know exactly how people conflate things in the chaos of the moment and in the end things seem to be much less than than are. I would be beyond shocked if 200+ people died in one city alone. Would also be beyond shocked if double the amount of people died in one state as the entire storm has claimed so far acoss 4 states. So far I believe its 80 People total

in NC.

Your first point is kind of absurdly wrong. Rainfall is not directly related to water surface elevation at all, and I could totally go into why that is since I write drainage reports as a career but I would like you to at least try and figure out why that is not the case on your own before I explain it to you like a toddler. Key factors include, as Drew stated, topographical features. Soil classification and time of concentration also play a huge role. A death can only be confirmed when the body is identified, and they can't identify bodies they have not found yet. Stop this shit man, you're out of your depth and this is a really weird fight to pick right now.

Except the locations I was mentioning were hit harder than beech and sugar. Those are just facts. Maybe you need to research the locations we’re talking about before chiming in. You’re clearly out of your depth on this one.

Maybe this historical example can help you use that ape-like brain of yours to think a little more critically:
https://www.weather.gov/nerfc/hf_march_1936#:~:text=In%20fact%2C%20at%20many%20locations,Connecticut%20River%20was%20severely%20impacted.

The worst flood in my States history was because of heavy rainfall 4 hours away. You should stick to shipping logistics and leave actual science to people who study these things for a living.

Again, I can explain in depth why, but you also don't seem to care about that, and this article might be too long and a little too technical. I'll try to find a different article that's a little more pedestrian friendly if this one is too confusing, or I can just sit down and explain hydrology to you.

the locations I’m talking about were the actual hardest hit areas in NC. You seem to be missing those facts. I’m not just talking total rain fall I’m talking actual flooding and actual damage. Do a little research before you try and pretend to know what you’re talking about.

Article literally says the areas with the most flooding. You do realize flooding is what’s causing the most damage and deaths in NC correct? It wasn’t wind. You do understand it was western NC with the most damage correct? Maybe look on a map and check out where these locations are and then check out where sugar and beech are. Or maybe just do any basic google search on what parts of NC have the most damage currently. You literally have zero clue what you’re talking about and it shows. It’s fun you’re trying to sound smart but you’re way out of your depth on this one.

Stop pinging me I'm not going to try and educate someone who is not willing to learn. All I said was "rainfall =/= how bad the flooding was" and you for some reason keep digging this hole and not listening for whatever reason. DNI baby do NOT interact!

Rainfall totals absolutely have something to so do with flooding. That’s a fact. Which was proven with this storm. I’m not talking about every storm and every flood ever in history. The highest rain fall totals for this storm in NC are the areas that had the highest flooding. Again fact. Ashville had one of the highest totals and guess what? They’ve had the worst flooding. You’re trying to argue something that isn’t what’s even being discussed. I’ve been talking about the areas with the most damage and highest flooding. Which also happen to be the areas that had the highest reports of rainfall. So again what’s your point that you’re trying to make?

Unlike you I actually know what I’m talking about on the subject. I have house in one of the hardest hit areas in NC and am currently having my neighbors and their family one who lost there home and the others who home is currently uninhabitable living in our place up there. I’ve actually been to the Maggie valley meetings in person about this exact situation being likely if we got a record storm like happened. Unlike you who’s just talking to hear his own voice I’m actually informed on the subject.

It matters to me because I actually have a home there you dumb fuck. I actually have friends who are currently living in our place because there’s was wiped away. I have a vested interest in the community where I contribute financially and friends have lost loved ones. What are YOU actually doing to help the community there? Absolutely jack shit. There's unfortunately nothing that I can do to help because I'm not in a financial or physical position. You know what I'm not doing? Arguing with a person who's away from his home over statistics. What if you were sympathetic to someone facing the same struggles and worries as you rather than starting arguments for no reason?

Having a conversation on a chat forum with someone who’s dealing with similar things as me isn’t arguing. I never called him any name or tried to belittle him. Didn’t put him down in anyway or trivialize what he’s dealing with. Just because I stated what the numbers being reported are doesn’t mean it’s an argument. If you have such a huge fucking problem with what I post use the block function and problem solved. That’s what it’s there for.

from what im hearing is that my home town has essentially been deleted, cell tower is split in 2, main water line has been destroyed, just about every single road has been destroyed to an almost inoperable level, power doesn't look like it is going to come back on for a while, reports of bodies floating in overflowed areas, no one has a clue when internet will be back to most places, food and water are becoming scarce. this is also a very rural area so it is even harder to get resources. most of my friends have fled the area with some staying to help rebuild roads and aide in recovery. all of my friends and family seem to be doing fine but avery county will not recover any time soon. Also read that more than 750 of the WNC dams were graded D and 2300 were high hazard and are significantly prone to failure given catastrophic weather

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family and friends and out there glad to hear they are all safe

wearing a mask to continue to protect yourself from covid would be crazy. wearing a mask when you have a common cold and are around others is common courtesy. its not a lib vs conservative thing. its common sense science saying hey you know that illness you have that is contagious when exhaled from your body? let’s put a filter on that exhaust pipe while around others.

And for that I thank Zuck for freeing up about 3 hours of my day of doomscrolling and shit talking people.

It's much better this way.
