Olympics 2022 - Slopestyle

What was Jesper's first run?

Sounds they didn’t show it in the US (I’m in Australia suffering horrible commentary). He put a hand down on one of the jumps but otherwise really solid and a really good rail line as usual. He seems like a perennial comp underachiever to me.

How did Fabian not get something in the 80’s?? That was such a good run. He got every grab, stomped every jump, and flipped off rails. Judges are on something

The judging of both skiing and snowboarding has been something else. It's absolutely insane.

Paid the 5 dollars and stayed up late mainly to see Jesper's runs and the fucking brodcasters don't air either of them.

Seems like you guys need to stop watching NBC.

NBC pays more than the rest of the world combined to be here, and they don’t even provide full coverage

I just want to see Henrik doing his thing, honestly X Games should add a jam sesh event where all the competitors are 30 plus so we can still see all these guys if they want to ski

That was brutal. Definitely not the final line up I'd hoped for but at least I have Matej and Moffat to cheer for. Expecting Colby to win though.

Anyone catch what forehand said? I just heard the commentators say, “tell your parents sorry” or something like that

He had a bad run and at the end the microphone caught him saying “I fucking hate that last jump” or something like that

what happened to woodsy? dns?

by the way, you can click into all the feature by feature scoring herehttps://olympics.com/beijing-2022/o...ing/results-men-s-freeski-slopestyle-qual.htm

the shred shack feature seems to score really well...

as does AHalls knuckle huck.

the quarterpipe did not score well.

Someone posted something from Woodsys Instagram

back injury from the sounds of it.

I swear I saw him up here today during training, and then was limping off before the event started. If it wasn’t him, then it was whoever bib 21 was.

additionally, looked like Kim Gubser qualified, but went a little too heavy and didn’t do a second run. Just like the ladies, If he doesn’t start tomorrow, it’ll just be the 11 men going through.

I thought he said something along the lines of "I fucking hate these people following me everywhere" when he was trying to get around someone.

Gubser landed that last one real hard. It didn’t look like the sort of thing you bounce back from. Looked like his quad. Higher than knee

Can confirm Woodsy did show up for training. I got the bib wrong.

I can’t believe Edjoy finished 13 in both slope AND big air. Plus Megan Oldham getting 4th in big air finals and 13th AGAIN in slope quails. Frustrating how close the Canadian team is missing spots.

they should show the points they give on every obstacle on the course…

also watched the snowboard big air qualifications and staale sandbech throws this crazy misty typa rotation and gets 60p? everyone else does the same 14 or 16 ion get it w the refs…

Random thoughts from qualifying:

-Seems like the first angled jump caused issues for a lot of guys

-Nice to see people taking different lines through the top of the course.

-Judges still seem unsure what to do when the quarter pipe or knuckle features are hit

-The guard tower feature looks amazing

-Gutted to see Evan and Henrik out of finals

-Judging wasn't perfect (double cork off rail should have scored higher) but was good overall

It's actually quite clear. They dig the knuck and don't like the qp.

again, they do have that, just not on the live broadcast. I hope the athletes scoped all this out so they know how everything was scored, by section.

From Kai Mahler's Insta story:

"Putting down a run with a partly torn muscle and making finals. 2 tricks first try on the course."

My reading of that is that he got hurt during training and still put down that qualifying run, which is nutty. Two first-try tricks in one run is absurd either way.

Friggen crisp and blue this morning kids. 9:30am start local time, 6:30pm mountain time.

3 run format. Best of 3 runs is the high score.

Stoked they are posting this. Any one doubting any judging just go run for run and watch and you will understand that judges aren't missing as much as you think.

From a production standpoint, we’re feeling the pressure of getting the judging right. It’s super easy to say “oh it’s a bad camera angle”. We have multiple cameras on multiple features, and have given the judges all the time they need to get it right. But the judges know that all eyes are on them
