PB Blaster and some time, a fresh spline tool, a trigger clamp to hold the tool into the BB, a long breaker bar, an extra set of hands. Vice grips aren't going to give you nearly enough torque. Just don't do what I did last weekend and get punched in the face by a headtube when it finally breaks free after putting all of my weight into a 5' breaker bar and sprung back toward my face.

If you have a local bike co-op/DIY shop they may be able to help out, often people who work on a lot of shitty old seized up bikes have some good tricks for stubborn bottom brackets. I've seen some pretty seized up bbs that just needed some pb blaster and an extra set of hands, some seemed doomed to the scrap bin, but it takes a hell of a lot of corrosion to actually get to that point. I've got a seized BB out of a 40 year old bike that looked like it spent it's entire life outside, took like 3 hours of struggling and so much PB blaster that I thought I was gonna pass out from the fumes and exertion.

Worst case scenario you have to resort to more destructive measures, or welding a stub into the bb (if it's steel) that can be turned with a big breaker bar.

What kind of BB is it? pics?

This BB is in there. Took it to a shop and they used PB blaster, let it sit over night tried using a torch, tried beating the shit out of it, etc. they gave it back at no charge. My buddy at the mechanic shop at the resort thinks he can get it out. If not the I guess I’ll but a complete.

either the BMX market has gotten over competitive and quality bike are now cheaper than 10 years ago or the brands I grew up with have resorted to only producing cheap entry bike. A Fit complete is less that $700?! Damn it aint 2009 i guess lol.

heres a pic of the current state of my frame

Looks like it's pressed in correct? If I understand correctly, PB only really helps much with threaded interfaces.

A maintenance shop for a ski resort is much more likely to have a hydraulic press and tooling for larger bearings, so I'd think your buddy might have more luck than the bike shop at getting it out without damaging the frame hopefully.

Anyone here ever ride a megatower? I’ve tried the new mullet bronson just tryna figure out how the megatower feels?

That BB is just pressed into the frame. Try going ham on it with a hammer and a flathead screw driver. Try and hit it from the inside. Either the bearing will pop out or break apart and fall out.

Got my first ride of the season yesterday, few km of singletrack descent, plus 15ish km pavement to work, and holy fuck I need a new saddle, my ass just too fat for this one.

If anyone is a fan of semi slicks, I just bought two Specialized Slaughter 27.5x2.6 Grid 2Bliss for $13.95 each. I don't even run 27.5 on my actual MTB, they are gonna end up on the front of my townie bike and thought they were too good of a deal to pass up. Used to run a semi slick on the front of my commuter with a fast rolling xc tire on the rear and it was actually a pretty good combo, great for keeping it fast rolling but having some decent cornering bite up front.

Dang, if these were 2.3" I'd be all over them. Semi slicks in the rear on the big bike in the Tetons all summer is the move.

Yeah, I was running a 29x2.35 Rock Razor on the rear of my Meta for a while and loved it, then I went with the Endurobro Assegai/DHR combo and the first few rides felt like I'm rolling through Elmer's Glue (for better or worse). May swap back to the RR this season on that bike.

Also just built up a rigid hardtail at the co-op that is running a 2.8 and 2.6 Slaughter and just in some parking lot tests and gravel cutties and it felt great, but nice and fast rolling for long rides.

that thing looks really fun

did you ride it fixed on the single track tho??

Yes most definitely, fixed gear on singletrack is a much less sketchy experience than freewheeling downhill with only a front brake. Got it set up with a 20t cog installed on the cassette side for riding the pump track, but I ride it freewheel much less than I anticipated, really only on chill commutes where I’m only riding flat/uphill and the pump track. Any speedy or aggressive riding really requires being in fixed gear mode and clipped in. Such a fun bike, kinda forgot how much fun riding fixed is.

May take it out to Copper City sometime this summer to see if I feel bold enough to try out some mellow (but steeper than townie trails) descents.

haha yea that is probably true. i need to get out on a fixie more than around a friends neighborhood. wish i lived in the city for that but nothing else haha

just figured I’d put this out there:

I have a Maxxis Assegai (29x2.6 EXO+ 3C Maxterra) laying around in basically new condition. Maybe a dozen light rides on it. Still has the molding tags on it. Nothing wrong with it I just found a setup I like better. If anyone wants it DM me

I know allow is heavy and all but I sent it on S4 Stumpjumper last night. I also am excited excited to learn about bike mechanics and parts/components. I rode one a few years ago and had a decent time on it so I just wanted something fun to get back into it and upgrade things as needed along the way

sweeet man those are fun bikes

you wont notice the little bit extra weight on anything but long climbs

Right on. We're blessed with tons of trails nearby in SLC/PC so this should be a fun summer when we get time to get out

Carbon snobs are silly. That bike is sick. Party on!

Dub post, but, I've put on a jump jam/race for the last four years. When it started out, I think a one footer X-up won best trick. Yesterday we had our first backflip, a bunch of 360's and a bunch of other wild, sketchy tricks. I'm so friggin stoked on these riders, and so proud of the kids who have been showing up since they were tiny, and now are getting ready for college. Bikes are so damn cool.

This is what happens when kids think they're better at riding than actually they are. Please, just crash harder next time.

If any breck/summit/colorado friends here need service, we're now doing bikes (finally, have wanted to for years) and am happy to offer service discounts, or even demo/retail discounts as well to NSers. Have a dynamite mechanic for the summer with a heck of a lot of experience on all bike types. Sorry for the shameless plug, just getting the word out. We also just renovated the store some come check it out!

Yeah they don't have a single mechanic over the age of 20 now, even Matt who works upstairs (and worked for us last winter) said he wouldn't recommend bringing bikes in this summer to people haha. We miss Guy! He also worked for us for a winter.

All good brother! luckily bikes tend to always need something done at some point.

Gettin new wheels, do I go for Raceface Arc 30 HD, or Spank 350f/359r? for 27.5

So finally destroyed my rear wheel cuz I have been tryna follow my 50to01 dreams and also UP chunk rly does its toll and my rim is officially fucked enough to no longer hold sealant....

My wheels guy said that the HD's are heavy but also probably the strongest, and the Spanks are prob the next in line.

is there too big of a difference from 30mm internal and 30.5?

lmk what experiences you've had with either wheel
