Do you guys think they'll still have that rail jam on the 12th at holiday?

Also people say that they're opening the 5th? How the fuck are they going to? it's going to be like 49(sat) and 50(sun) lmao and this is what it looks like now:

well, holiday valley just postponed opening day again, this time to further notice. fuck the weather.

Im going up to holiday valley tomorrow to hike with a few others. will anyone else be there?

Kinda random, but I can up to KB for my yearly visit last year and I was very disappointe. The park crews have slayed in the past, but last year they did some swapping around and it was just terrible. The features looked as if they were thrown wherever, and they were seriously undermaintained. They had a stair set that was buried, and had legit no lip. It was just 2 rails sticking out of the ground. There were bombs in the landing deep enough to burry a body. Boxes and rails were so sticky, the jumps were sketchy and filled with ruts.

I was seriously disappointed. A few years ago they had one of the best parks I have ever seen for a small east coast mountain. Anyone know what happened?

At the end of 2 season ago, they fired everyone on park crew after drug testing them. They drug tested everyone, the lifties, management people, mountain ops, etc. The beginning of this season they hired a whole new crew, most of them never worked park crew before(i believe). Now this year they fired everyone again and now have 3 people, an old guy, a guy my age and a girl.

We had a meeting with the higher ups last season and their plan was to open the park earlier and in order to do that, they had to bring it to a more central location. That also meant getting rid of the park lift and everything though which was a real fucking mess. They also need to have the airbag where it is because of contracts and stuff. So they wanted to bring the park closer to it to have a freestyle area. So that's why everything was moved around.

This year they say they will move the park back to world. I'm not really sure what their park is going to look like this year tbh. I have a pass there but probably will spend most of my time at holiday and peek'n peak.

if they do open then they will just have to close right up again because its gonna hit 55 and be raining next week.

DAMN really? I've been skiing on the snow they made since November 14th and its still sticking around! According to my inside sources they're shooting for Sunday, if it actually happens or not who knows. With the Fri-Sun temps I know for a fact they can open, its just whether or not they think its viable. Those automated guns can make a damn good amount of snow in one night at full blast, especially if its under 28, enough to open all of Yodeler. For a major resort not being open on Christmas is a huge deal, they'll do everything in their power to make that happen. Fingers crossed!

I know snowmakers at seven springs and they get colder temps than holiday valley and they said they wont be able to do anything for a while.

You're the most pessimistic dude on this whole website. Try thinking positive it will do you some good.

I wasn't out at holiday valley this weekend, but I was there the weekend before and they have a good amount of snow that hasn't really melted too much. They are so close to opening its just a matter of having a day or two of really solid snowmaking. I think they can do Sunday for sure.

I'm sorry, I used to be the kid who was always excited and looking forward to things and now that none of the signs of excitement are here I'm super depressed. I feel jealous a lot of the time because I'm stuck at some piece of crap hill in Ohio with corrupt management while everybody else on here has a hill with over 200 ft of vertical and a management that will actually make snow when its warmer than 18 out. My rage and depression is part of being a teen stressed out with school and stuff. I just have no way to get my anger out and sadly I'm doing it with a keyboard to a bunch of skiers with awesome vibes. I apologize. I just won't post for a while about weather.

Haha it's cool we are all hurting here. When I saw peek n peak cancelled opening day I felt like shit. I'm just trying to stay positive because in years past I've been just the most negative motherfucker ever and it didn't get me anywhere. I do feel like shit though, this was the first year I bought a season pass to holiday valley and I was hoping to have like 5+ days in by now. Oh well shit happens I guess, most of the east coast and Midwest is hurting right now too so we aren't the only area that has to deal with this shit

Holiday valley is chill enough to possibly give discounts for next year though. My hill opened in freaking January last season with the bomb season the east had. I only got 20 days instead of 30 or 40 if we opened on thanksgiving like the neighboring resort did. I forked out all my money on a pass so I could only afford 1 lift ticket and I got my first turns on December 29th last year..... It just doesn't seem fair.

Holidays snowmaking system got rated like 2nd in the east haha. 600 guns/237 automated and can cover an acre of trail with one foot of snow per hour. They're known for it!

Honestly looking back this isn't all that abnormal. The past few years we've just been spoiled with early opening dates. Have faith!

yes it may be able to do that but only with prime temps. It is not 2nd in the east lol. Sunday river and Killington beat it no contest. Although they should because they are like 10x the size of hv

the annual snowfall got ranked #2 in the east

No, the rating was done my ski area management magazine. Sunday River and Killington get colder temps because of higher elevation, it has nothing to to with their actual snow making system being more advanced.

Im confused, If Killington has a more advanced system with colder temps, then how isn't it better lol.

This honestly. People see warm temps, and look outside at their house and don't see snow, so they assume that it's impossible for a ski resort to have snow. If you have a huge pile of snow, Idc how warm it is that shit isn't melting for a while which is why they have snow in June almost every year. But it's also way colder in ellicotville than like buffalo which is where we see the local forcasts from. Usually about 5 degrees colder, which makes a huge difference when we are talking about snowmaking. I was in the state forest being HV on Tuesday and there was actually NATURAL SNOW not much, but it just goes to show you how different the weather is in ellicotville. I wouldn't really be suprised if they opened sunday.

I worded that weird. I meant that the only reason you would think Killington and Sunday River etc have better snow making systems is because they're able to take advantage of high elevation and colder temps due to their location. When it comes to who has more advanced system its Holiday. Its pretty amazing how much snow they make, you can ski full runs until mid may like every year in western New York.

Pretty cool video on it here: https://vimeo.com/81972223

Mind you the video is two years old and doesn't include the millions of dollars of improvements they made.

Speaking of "improvements" the new road is SUPER weird, I feel like they lost parking because of it.

I'm not saying it's not fancy. I'm just saying that it will be super hard to open on 3 nights of snowmaking. If they had around the clock for 2.5 days then that would be an entire different story.

How long have you been skiing at Holiday for? 2.5 days round the clock haha geez when you say open do you assume they have to open the entire resort!? Three nights to open like one or two runs up is pretty reasonable.. They have opened with just half the width of Yodeler snow covered before. Or just ran on weekends. I just telling you what I was told by Mountain Opps. They want to be open Sunday, no guarantees. You act like it's impossible or something!

i have only been skiing for the last 3 years and opening day they had full coverage on the main trails. I know they don't have all the trails. That would take like 100 snowmakers and cats

no shit there's going to be full coverage on the main trails. Last year there was literally full coverage of natural snow on every single hill at the resort on opening day because of that November storm. The last 2 winters have been the best we've had in a long ass time. Its a completely different situation when you get a storm like that

local hill is having a hike park this weekend with like 5-6 rails. If you want to drive to ohio for snow then look up snow trail.

HOLIDAY VALLEY IS OPENING SUNDAY, weather permitting of course.

its on their facebook for those who want to see for themselves.

Do you think they'll stay open after the weekend? Ohio skiing runs out after sunday unless something changes, so I'll be making a kamikaze trip up there Monday if there's even just a few decent features up. Can you tell I'm desperate
