Official Euro 2012 Thread

Super impressed with Ukraine's counters in this game, especially for a team that's not exceedingly fast. Sweden hasn't hit their normal attackattackattackattack rhythm yet, but it's still been an intense offensive game on both ends. I'm expecting Ibra to get one in off a set piece next 45, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine puts one in off a counter.

from watching the last 11 minutes of the first half, it seems like ukraine is dominating sweden. But who knows, hopefully sweden can make a good comeback for this second half!

being french, I want a 0-0 draw.

But as a football fan in general, even if it ends 1-1, I hope Ukraine score simply because it's a huge moment for them. Score their first euro goal, at home in their own stadium with their own fans. Great moment for them.

That's what I like, when these tournaments bring people together and produce great memories. Make the people happy.

that's half the reason i wasn't too mad when France crashed out in 2010 by losing to south africa...made the south africans go nuts.

I love the way Sweden plays Ibra further back than normal. A goal is pretty much inevitable with him on the ball so much. Should get crazy now with Ukraine's back against the wall LAKFNW EAF AND HOLY SHIT THERE YOU GO!

I've played almost my entire life and still find it boring (only to watch) I love playing

Watching the spain vs. italy game was bruuuuuuuuuuutally boring except for a few moments of action

and this shit is just embarrassing..how can you call yourself a man and act like this? It just brings so much shame and embarrassment to the sport..

look no further than the country he was representing there...

Certain countries are well known for diving....italy happens to be the top of that pile.

Google fail

Thats Italy... you cant compare them to the rest of soccer. They are pathetic the way they dive. I hate watching Italy.

true true about the aspects of the italian game..i've never enjoyed watching either of those teams play

It sucks I'm at work and haven't been able to catch any of the more exciting games today

I played all through high school and on the collegiate level..I LOVE playing the sport of soccer, for me it just doesn't translate well on television especially watching some of the international play (i.e. italy)..I'd rather scoop my eyeballs out with melon ballers

by the way, anyone see how angry ballack got at alexi lalas after the France game today?

Hilarious. Upped my respect for the german.

Anyone got the clip where the portoguese is roleplaying in the match between Germany and Portugal close to the end? Please post if you find it

Also not really Euro at all sorry... but did anyone see the Argentina Brazil friendly?? Messi holy shit. Guy is out of control.

He is the best player in the world. And anybody who says he's only good with Barcelona knows nothing about soccer. In my opinion, he's the best player of all time.

I dont know how people can say that. you never got to see marqdona play or all the old greats play. you can make q case for maybe the past fifteen, but you cant judge what you didnt see

yeah we never saw guys like pele or platini so u cant really say messi is the greatest player of all time. that would be pele.

well he was horseshit during the world cup with argentina. until he shows it in something else than a friendly match, hes only good with barcelona.

True that. Football has changed a bit over the years, what with technology, rules, and definitely finances all weighing in on the sport.

Many old folks in Brazil would claim Garrincha was the best player of all time... but who's to say he would score as well with the Tango 12?

What about George Best? Shit, many man U folks and, definitely people in Belfast would claim him as the most insanely good player ever to live... He alone made Northern Ireland slightly frightning to play... But would he even have a chance today with how fit guys typically are? Would he score goals while drunk like he used to?

The Dutch would probably point to Johan Cruyff... easily another candidate... the Germans? Beckenbauer... surely... Most anyone not English? Maradona would be in the top 5...

Hell, I myself would probably find it hard not to put Zidane, Shearer, Roberto Carlos, and Henrik Larsson and on my list... but I grew up actually seeing those guys punch it home on the reg. During the 1990's and 2000's. I never saw Cruyff or Best or Garrincha or Boniperti or friggin Stanley Matthews... None of us can judge new from old with a clear sense, really...

Real talk... You put Pele in the modern world of football, no way he scores 1000 goals. He was cleaning up against shitters for years in Brazil and the US. Don't get me wrong, he was no doubt a brilliant player but tactics are better, defenders are fitter. He'd be a great player, but nowhere near the legend he has become through his actual playing days.

I didn't even watch the second half yesterday, first was so fucking boring. Seems like it's the underdags tournament though.

mobile fuck finger jam. what i would have said; that with Sweden and Norway it's a love hate thing. out off all i would hate to lose to Sweden. that would suck. but if an other Scandinavian team plays I'll support them.

Exactly. The sport has progressed. Everyone has become better. I believe that if Messi played anytime from 20-100 years ago he would've been the best player playing at that time.

But it is all relative, so I guess we're not allowed to compare players today to players 40 years ago, so Messi, in my opinion, is the best player of the past 10 years. He just scored 73 goals in a season.

You think if you put Pele through the same training regimins and injury recovery and everything that they have now adays, that he wouldn't be as impressive? I'm sure he'd still be just as incredible. 1000 goals? probably not... (didn't he really just score like 500 or something? I don't remember him scoring 1000... he did have something like a goal per game ratio though which is insanity... ) but he also wouldn't stick around in Brazil and only go to the USA for a while, either. He'd probably play for one of Europe's top clubs for most of his career, and his playing time would likely have been limited by days of rest and whatnot. I have a feeling he'd be just as effective on the pitch. as for tactics? It's fucking Pele. He pretty much invented football tactics haha.

Just started streaming the game. Figured I didnt miss much since it would only be about 10 mins in. WTF 2 goals already?
