Newschoolers App Beta Feedback Thread

Loving the "latest" on the home page. Are you gonna make it a thing where we can tag other members and they get a notification? I'm guessing it will be later on, that's ok :) just seeing if it's on the list
 
Could the area where we write posts get extended at all? There's a good bit of unused space, may help with writing larger posts
 
I don't know if this has been said, but when I'm scrolling through the home page and watching videos (on iOS) it would be cool if when you started a new video the previous one would pause. Right now when I play a second video the audio and video on the previous one continues to play. Not a huge deal, but would be nice to have the previous one stop automatically so I can continue to be lazy and not have to scroll back up.
 
Really enjoying the app. One thing I've noticed on the android version: About 4 days ago I clicked a link to a newschoolers forum post in Google chrome. My phone knew to open the ns app and take me to the right forum page. but now every time I open the app regularly it opens to that post rather than the home.

I have since read articles and looked and posted on other forum pages through the app, but every time I re-open the app I see the same one I opened through chrome... If that makes any sense
 
I can't slide the slider things when I want to review hear and the option to edit my threads has disappeared, but I can still edit quotes and replies???

You were never meant to see the edit post symbol on your posts. That's a mod tool for the mods. So that's why you don't see it anymore.

ALSO -

Check out the new fancy sharing system. It actually uses the phone's sharing system which is far better than the way it was before.

minor annoyance, but is it possible to make it so that we can vote a post back to neutral if we accidentally upvote or downvote it?

Both of these things are noted as features to add.
 
Just got the email to test it rn. And so far I really dig it. Will give more in depth feedback after using it for a while. So far at a first glance it's awesome!
 
Says the app is not compatible with my devices, have a Moto G4 running android 7 so thought it would be fine and also have an older Samsung tablet too!

Also, for those who noticed the "Instagram loop of death" issue, that has been fixed. Click away on instagram links and you'll be good to go.

Happens to me too. But it used to happen a lot on the browser too so I just assumed it was my phone not the app.

Also just got the push notification for breaking news. I like that, reminds me of ESPN updates. Would love to be able to edit what type of updates I get. Stuff like specific skiiers, comps, etc.

We'll look into the sentence stuff, I've seen that in some other apps too so it might be an OS problem, but we'll look into it.

As for the notification.... yeah that was our first test! The idea here is to make it more like ESPN updates or other news sources where the really hot breaking stuff you can get a notification for like that.

Right now we kept the notifications really simple because we didn't want to over load anything... but over the summer we'll be expanding all the places you can choose to get them. We want to be very careful though about giving a lot of control over your notifications though, so we don't overwhelm you with stuff you don't want.

So anything we add will be configurable.

Weve also now given members the ability to edit their original post across the site in app. I think it is time to do this, especially given the fact that mobile is much more error prone when posting than desktop.

Just updated the app and now when I'm on the home page it won't let me click on the alert, threads, or messages icons on the bottom bar but it will let me click on upload and home. Anywhere else in the app and there's no problems

I'm noticing while messaging someone, the "NEW!" badge that is either black when unread or grey when read on desktop, only shows up as all black unread on the app, even when I know messages has been read. This would be a useful fix for messaging about buying/selling since knowing when they're read is crucial

Black means it has been red, orange meants it is unread. If you click on the message you can set it back to Orange.

There's probably inconsistency with the main site, which will also get a facelift to bring it all back in-line together.

Try clicking the "new" thing and you'll see it sets it back to unread.

Push notification on new PM now works.
 
Also - just to let everyone know, were pretty close to version 1 of this thing being stable and ready to launch.

We know there are still features we want to add, and ones you guys probably want to see. However at this point I think things are running fairly smoothly and we have addressed most of what we are able to quickly out of this thread.

What at do you guys think?

Love it so far, and each little update has been an improvement. It has drastically increased my time spent on NS (especially in class), which I think is a testament to its success.

Idk this is the first time this has happened while using the site and when I go to another app through my currently open ones it sometimes comes up with "No internet connection"

Hmmm... one of the drawbacks is that it doesn't work without an internet connection.

Did you have an internet connection at the time?

It would be nice to see a page navigation like menu on the top of a thread, instead of only on the bottom

We initially had that, but we're trying to cut down on the amount of space before content loaded at the top of a thread.
