Newschoolers App Beta Feedback Thread

Noticed issues opening up reviews from google links. The text runs off the side of the page, and won't let you zoom out. Also, how are you guys uploading photos from the app?

Ah - reviews are being quietly retired. Did you open up reviews in the app?
 
My biggest annoyance now is that when you click on the notification tab at the bottom of the page to dismiss the alert, the number doesn't go away after you click on it and then exit out. Like with a Facebook notification you can click on the notification button and click it again and then it won't show up. Sorry having a hard time explaining it clearly :( hopefully that makes sense

Black means it has been red, orange meants it is unread. If you click on the message you can set it back to Orange.

There's probably inconsistency with the main site, which will also get a facelift to bring it all back in-line together.

Try clicking the "new" thing and you'll see it sets it back to unread.

I'm only seeing black on the app, even though on desktop it shows a difference between read and unread for the same messages that only show black on the app. It makes no sense to tap on a message to make it become unread again, if a message is read its read, why undo that. I'd definitely recommend making messaging consistent between desktop and the app before releasing, it sucks to have get to a computer to actually utilize messages correctly
 
something id like to see: a way to filter the latest section by media. so you could see only the latest vids, or obly the latest photos, or threads, etc

I mean you can do this by going to the specific section right now... are you basically saying you'd just prefer to stay on the one page?

yeah I guess the only advantage would be being able to see new threads from all forums in one list

Is that what you want vs. just the ability to filter the latest view?
 
When I click photos in threads they appear at full resolution I'm pretty sure, and I can't zoom out to see the whole thing

There is an "upload" button if you turn on the editor, that toggle option is bottom right of your reply screen.

i guess so haha. would be nice to ne able to filter everything that's already in one nice concise feed

Screen is cutting off the right side of the forum...only sometimes though...it looks normal the other half of the time.

On android.

Do you mean you only use the app now? Or, that you don't come on here at all? I found that the app has me checking and posting more frequently than I was for a while.

That's what I thought it was going to be like at first. I find myself not checking ns nearly as much. Maybe it was just a habit.

maybe it just has to do with where the app was located in my phone. I just find myself using dofferent apps instead and forgetting about this one.

Hmm,I wonder how many others are finding this true. Because it had a very different effect on me.

Is the app on your main home screen? If not, that's definitely why. Mines on my main home screen and I'm on here more than I ever was

Part of the issue here is likely that it's summer. It is natural that more and more people forget about Newschoolers as the summer months set in.

There isn't as much activity flowing either. In winter, there will be a lot more to draw people back in.

The other factor is that as soon as you get used to push notifications pulling you into something, you relax on active checking. Tuning the push notifications is going to help a lot with this.

I've been getting the same error. I've noticed it happens after one of two things. Either I get it after opening Google Chrome and then going back to NS, or if I leave NS open, then put my phone to sleep, then turn my phone back on.
 
Sometimes I'll be looking at a thread and randomly an ad page advertising a bunch of candy crush-esque apps and it doesn't let me close it without closing out of the whole thread.. it's so bad it feels like malware. Is this intentional?

Small annoyance but when using the search function, it doesn't sort the threads by newest...

Would like to see different sort options
 
Am quite a fan of the app (andriod) but was wondering about some aesthetic options. Currently the bottom menu bar raises with the keyboard, which just slightly cuts out the bottom of the reply buttons (not majour).

Also the bottom menu bar is slimmer than a lot of apps with a similar design.

The choice of a dark mode/theme would also be sweet.

At a machine level the app has worked perfectly for me, and i have not experienced any bugs.
 
As the guy above said, maybe a good idea to not have the bottom bar go up with the keyboard, I know on Android my word suggest is above the keyboard and sometimes Ill hit one of the navigation buttons like home or alerts.

Also, is there any way to get to the cult forums on the app?
 
Suggestion, not sure how hard it is to program but can you make "My Threads" searchable? Sometimes I want to find a thread I posted in a while ago and can never find it. Searching "My Threads" narrows the search base and makes it easier.

It is launching live now!

went live this morning on The App Store, should be a day or two max before it goes live on the Play store.

Beta was smooth and we had addressed most of the bugs. We're switching to production now but will keep addressing anything that comes up.
 
Also - if you guys could leave a review for the app in the actual app stores that would be awesome. :)
 
Would be cool if clicking on a link on Facebook took me to the app instead of the websight but this might be something that only Facebook can change.

It is technically supposed to do that... we'll look into it.
 
Idk about anybody else...but that pop up ad that covers up the notification bar is really annoying. The exit button is also pretty small and I always hit the ad. Maybe I just have clumsy thumbs idk ha

I havent had an issue with the pop up add. But i do agree with the small buttons, a 10-20% size increase wouldn't go a miss
 
How can I filter videos so I can just find girl edits. Would like to know. Much appreciated!

Also there is still no button at the bottom of threads to go back to the main thread listing. Ty.
