i'll start by saying i see both sides of the argument and i fall right in the middle. threads get derailed too easily sometimes but i can appreciate mindless humor as well

i also like the idea of another "anything goes" NSG forum but see the issues with it. if it were truly unmoderated it would have porn gore and scat mixed in with everything else which wouldn't fly. more moderators would have to be brought in to police it (EBI moderation?). it's still publicly visible to advertisers or whoever else comes through wanting to be a part of ns. if thats a part of the decision in the end it probably wouldn't work.

the problem with a cult is it's not public enough, it's doesn't draw traffic and will dies out too quickly (which i realize is what many want)
 
Might a not enough to justify its own thread thread help? it'd be a place for some mindless stuff and things that don't really need their own thread so people arent as tempted to say stupid stuff for threads that didn't really need a whole thread?

No....but you set the tone. You make the choices on what is ok and what's not. The people on this site will always stay the same, but it's the site that changes.

Doesn't matter how many requests you guys have, people will stay the same. I agree with you guys, I just think askin people to change isn't going to work. You want it to change....then your gonna have to get proactive. More mods, tweaks to the site, change the site to a media site with a comments section.

If you want to keep NS a voice of the people then add more mods and remove shit as necessary ( I know easyer said then done, and that the mods that already are on work like dogs to keep it half decent). Grow with the site.

If it is really a media issue, and NS does want to move towards being a ski mag online. Then take those steps. People aren't going to change either way.

You guys literally just made the exact set of rules that I would have- which is exactly why I thought I'd make a shitty mod haha... It's just kind of ironic. I always thought the Reddit-type retards were NS's bread and butter and never understood why they aren't banned more often- or just perma'd immediately. Can I be a mod now? Lol

I swear to god it's just a handful of little assholes that tarnish the site. Permaban them and be done with it. I can assure you it'll cut out a significant amount of bullshit of the forums.
 
tbh, i really dont come to nsg to get information on mountain biking or watching some dude climb a rock, if i want to find it i'd just search bar it. its sad to see that ns has come to the conclusion of having people banned and over modded to get a few extra members. I will still come here and use SG, but I know when i was looking for somthing funny, i could come to nsg and watch el farto come here and tear some kid apart. and by the looks of it this wont be happening much longer.

sparknotes: not a big fan but still want to come here for skiing stuff

Prime example of why NSG sucks. this is a thread on how to make NSG better and this dude has to come in and start some bullshit argument about opiate addiction. If NS doesn't start banning the perpetual fuck wads on the site people who care will just start leaving and all of your NSG problems will be amplified because only the assholes will stick around. I've never seen a post that this kid has made that wasn't stupid as shit, trolling, or bullshit arguments. Cut off some of the fat guys.

Have you been on long enough to know what NSG has been? Because if you have, you would know that

a)NSG WAS a lot better than this in years past

b)this is not the first time mods have stepped up their efforts to clean things up

c)not a whole lot is going to change in the grand scheme of things

Well the OPs mom stuff is annoying, its every other comment in the not to interesting easy troll threads. I understand the borders and know friends whom have been given warnings for unnecessary comments maturity is an issue but if within boundaries is humorous and makes the threads entertaining. Maybe this whole thing will work out well, I guess we shall see. Btw I just graduated middle school, freshmen life here I come!!!

Like has been mentioned a few times, we're not setting out to remove all of it by any means. There simply has been too much of it and most of it has been stupid, not funny, and poorly timed. If used in the right place anything can be funny, but if you use it everywhere it gets stale and unoriginal.

I read a couple pages of this thread really thoroughly, then scanned some of the rest so I think I get the point of it. I'll provide my $0.02

Because I contribute content to this site and have been a member of it for a decent amount of time, one might assume that I would be all with the changing of the forums and tightening the rules a little bit, etc.

But truthfully, the NSG is still enjoyable to me the way it is. Sure the OP's mom's jokes aren't that funny, but whatever.

I really like NSG for what it is, and my honest opinion is that it should kind of just run its course.

However, I would always say that all of the super off-color jokes should be deleted. ("Kill yourself", racism, etc.)

Just trying to give a real opinion.
 
^I didn't really mean "run it's course" there I guess, because that's kind of inferring that it will end.

I mean that I think NSG should just keep running the way it is.

Sometimes OP's mom/spiderman/shitty troll threads turn around. With your new policy, you're going to kill lots of dialogue before it has a chance to organically progress to something worthwhile.

1. Yeah, no... That has almost never happened ever.
