Actually I'm over it now. I just have to have like 16 hours to be upset about it, but now that it's been 16 hours I realize that I don't really care.

NS will find other ways to be funny
 
Just wanted to drop a little clarification here. These new rules are not 100% unflexible. We know what NSG is and was, and who the members are. Take these rules as suggestions on how to carry yourself. Will the occasional "OPs mom...", Memes and thread derails be let happen? Of Course! Do we want every thread to be full of them? Hell No!

Is this going to piss off the small group of members who are the biggest offenders and treat NSG like 4chan? We know it will, but if that is all they want NSG to be, then maybe they need to find somewhere else to play. The larger population sees NSG as a trash pit, and it has really started to affect the overall image of Newschoolers, and our Sport! When athletes, industry people and new members start telling us that they associate NS with the content in NSG instead of all the other great features and content we offer, then it's time to change our image. This is a first attempt at cleaning it up.

Don't worry, we aren't nuking NSG, just a little housekeeping. Play nice and everything will be fine.
 
I've seen ignore features on other semi-moderated forums which is something I've always felt nsg could use. It's just a little button under a user's icon and it minimizes all of their posts so you can scroll right by em,, but if you want to read whatever drivel they posted you just hit the + button to unhide the post. I have absolutely no idea of what's involved with adding something like that though. I'm not saying this instead of the new no more ops mom jokes rule, but it could help kind of allow members to tailor their own nsg experiences a bit depending on who they ignore.

Ha, you're missing the point completely. It's not what was said, but where it was said. Jamie pointed out very clearly that those comments were made in a thread that contained a serious discussion, those two comments then derailed that thread completely turning into something full of OP and shit jokes. It was unnecessary, pointless and not even funny.

Not necessarily, you're really reading into it too hard there. It's really pretty simple, a thread is created, people have a solid discussion about things within that thread, someone posts something stupid and unrelated, the people who were having a discussion stop posting, the thread turns into a bunch of people posting the same stupid shit they post in every other thread. No one is offended (except probably the OP because his topic was just hijacked by assholes), the thread is just ruined for no reason. That's the point, basically all the mods are saying is stop ruining perfectly good discussions for no absolutely no reason (and no, quite frankly "because it's funny" is not a reason, because most people don't find it funny, they just find it dumb).

I was talking about that specific example. It always has been and always will be against the rules to use racial slurs. And that's because those ARE actually offensive to people.

What threads? Because I've seen the deleted threads over the past few days...I haven't really seen anything of merit taken down. The only threads I've seen that had a chance of seriousness were deleted because they were filled with crap like op's mom and other stupid jokes.

I get where you guys are coming from, but at the same time you guys have to realize that this is the internet. You have a members base site that is free to join.

Now when NS was small, and was just a forum that wasn't owned by anybody or considered relevant by most of the ski media industry. I think asking the members to change is kinda of crazy. I think the mods and folks who made this site need to realize that maybe it's not up to the members to change.

I think that maybe the site/the organization needs to change. If you want to be more media focus, and not piss off the companies/skiers/other media outlets that want their stories on NS.....then maybe the site needs to become that. Just a media site like Speedhunters where you have stories, and people can comment on them, and mods filter/patrol the comments.

Or like your doing, just have more mods. I think to be asked by your members to be proactive is just silly. Nobody who is just a blue name has actual stake in this site. Why is it up to them to change? If you guys want change you will have to make it happen.

Also I just want to say NGS is just as bad as it ever was, or ever has been. Just in the early years it was small enough where it was just funny and stupid, but now that the site has an actual following...it gets in the way. Nothing on NSG has really changed, but the site has/and is.

I skimmed thru the thread and didn't see anything about the recently new feauture of polls. It is a great idea, but OP's always make the answers horrible. Always one about OP being a fag which gets old quick. Especially when the poll has a good idea behind it.

That's great as an ideal....but this is an open website about terrain park skiing. The target market from the start is immature. You want people to start acting well, your going to have to enforce it to happen. You guys have said it your self....mods have given lots of slack.

If you give people slack they are gonna take it as then some. You really want results, your gonna need more mods. Build the site to what you want it to me. If your going to hope to community is going to police itself you guys are gonna dissapointed. Sure it might change for a little bit, but after a while it will just fall back into place.

i dont know if this has been said yet or not, this thread kinda blew up but why not create an entire new forum? A forum where you can talk about serious shit, world news etc. leave nsg how it is, shit is hilarious.

you dont go to /r/funny to go and talk about interesting and concerning things happening in the world. Newschoolers population is starting to grow i think its time to expand the website.
