Formula One thread

Early season hopes for exciting racing, but less than 1.2 seconds between everyone in Q1 is way tighter qualifying than previous years.

So Aston Martin living up to the hype. Wow. Even stroll finishing in top ten with a broken, post op wrist and no training. The car is unbelievable.

my guy stroll getting some recognition finally

Didn't expect the Aston Martin hype to actually pull through, does seem to be a bit of Merc going backward, but still, P3 for Alonso is great especially since he actually had to fight Ferrari for it. Even though the Ferrari team still making ridiculous mistakes. Could be a 3 way fight for 2nd constructors.

Gasly recovering into the points was good to see as well, if Merc don't improve they could have some competition from Alpine.

chadlonso yet again in the top 3 in fp1 let’s hope he’s in the top5 for quali, also great for lance being right behind nando he was stuck in the midfield pace the whole time.

Max and Horner are insufferable. Drove me away from even paying attention last season. Looks like this will be the same.

aside from the clear redbull dominance the rest of the grid is going mad so far

yeah, I am interested in seeing if Aston Martin can keep it up for the rest of the season. It’s nice to see a midfield team figure it out.

Nice to see Aston Martin stepping it up.

making this year so much more entertaining. seeing mercedes and ferrari struggle is amazing even though ferrari is overdue for a world championship.

Would love to see Red Bull make some Ferrari type strategy mistakes to spice things up

If only. The only mistake they ever make is in the pit and it's so far and few between that team is so dialed.

Disappointed Leclerc gas a grid penalty was excited to see if the Ferrari top speed was going to excel at this track.

In fairness, I remember thinking in the moment “looks like the rear Jack is touching the car”. Glad they overturned the penalty though. I assume you’re referencing Alonso

How is the FIA this bad, wtf was that decision-making?

Pretty funny how the oldest and most experienced driver on the track can make an easy mistake like lining up out of position lol

This was with Zhou last year:

”The Stewards reviewed the video evidence and determined that Car 24 came into the pit lane and stopped. But thereafter, it was jacked up by the team. Article 54.4(c) requires that “whilst a car is stationary in the pit lane as a result of a penalty in accordance with Articles 54.3(a)…it may not be worked on until the car has been stationary for the duration of the penalty”. Although the team did not work on the car for 5 seconds after jacking the car up, the jacking up of the car itself would be “working” on the car, which is prohibited by 54.4(c).”

I need to read the actual regulation but it sounds like the jack touching might be okay as long as it didn’t lift the car.

I do see the misunderstanding for the FIA, but they should've been able to come to a conclusion faster.

The rear jack did touch the car, but as that has been allowed before it's become de facto part of the rule that the jack touching doesn't constitute "working" on the car.

Guess it did work all out in the end, just a bit of an embarrassment for the stewards.

The fact that there is an already clear precedent makes it even more confusing how they came to the wrong conclusion initially, especially when they had plenty of time to do their homework on it. Pretty incompetent.

I think having guest stewards every race is a huge part of the inconsistency

Yeah see that’s what I was thinking. I don’t think they even jacked up the rear, it was just touching (can’t remember at the moment). Since they were so strict with Ocon last race, I was wondering how it would pan out

This video doesn’t seem to show any upward movement, just setting the jack in place.

tbh i don’t understand why anyone would want to be a max/lewis fanboy cause as soon as they aren’t winning everything the fans go crazy. i mean look at lewis’ fanbase going crazy cause george is legit faster than lewis ???

either way, nando got his place back. am showed fia that there have been many other incidents where jack touched the car but no penalty was given. plus what the fuck were fia thinking by debating that penalty 30 laps after, and alerting am on last lap.

fia consistent at being inconsistent

well ocon fucked up too. granted he isn’t as old as nando is but still. ig it can happen to anyone.

What a fantastic race my god. The last 10 laps watching Verstappen trying to outpace checo, not catching him, complaining of a possible drive shaft, backing off to store up power and then blasting that last lap. God he is so easy to hate. Really stoked for checo though the guy has wheels this year. I don't think he would have been able to get to the front from 15th like Verstappen did though.

yea checo is amazing but he has his downs and off days whereas with verstappen, he literally has no down days. verstappen is fine but his dad, oh my god does his dad have the most punchable face. his dad is such a ass

i mean jos verstappen beat his wife so i wouldn’t mind seeing him getting punched

Anyone else thinking stroll is gonna have a banger year? Last lap in qualis he went purple in the first sector, then had to retire, can't remember why. Then comes the race and the guy maybe 5-6 laps in passes Carlos like the Ferrari had its parking brake on. All with a broken hand which still blows me away.

Max blew the lead in a karting race, as well, and Jos didn’t speak to him for a week. The trauma most definitely is part of why he is so good in a very fucked up way

14521690:Jems said:

i hate jos sm. like it seems like jos only cares about max winning. this weekend max went 15 to 2 and jos seemed very mad max didn’t win lol

He’s a very horrible manipulator. Wonder when max will separate and start therapy

I just see Max and his Dad as pretty typical Dutch.

Once you realize that, the attitudes and comments displayed make a lot more sense.

BTW I feel like max has earned his dominance. He spent years single handedly battling the Merc juggernaut on track.

Then leave us alone, we know what we’re doing.

Go watch NASCAR if you love Kimi so much

Are we gonna get any hulkenberg kmag drama? Or are they cool now. Also wondering how long hulkenberg can extend the longest streak of starts before a podium.
