Booing Tanner... wtf

I think Simon knew that he couldn't win so rather than throwing down a tech run with a higher chance of winning he just went huge and impressed the croud. I think Tanner deserved to win. And the booing was just rude.

apparently... how wierd.

and tanners run was on a whole nother level. HOnestly simons last run was nice and all, but hes been doing it for ever. Seriously, if youre going to spin all one way, you better be going 20 ft out every hit, and doing 12's every hit. Even that wouldnt be a winning run if you ask me. Tanner murderlized it, and hatveit, and colby james west had the other two best runs hands down. I think Simon is sick, and he deserves props for going so massive. But its time to wake up... the circus act gets old, variation and tech are going to take over kids, in fact they already have, its why Thall won the last 3 years. Its also why he can win a gold medal and then give simon the keys to the golden palace when he finishes his victory lap. Did you hear the advice? Simon should take it... then when tanner quits pipe, hell finally be king.

word!

Simon's run was awesome, but Tanner definitely won this one hands down (as opposed to last year where it was a little sketchy). I thought Tanner conducted himself extremely well after being booed on a victory lap in a contest he clearly one, especially when he cares so much about the sport. I was super bummed about that booing, and felt bad for Tanner. He's a badass and really doesn't deserve hate for his contributions to the sport.

simon went so huge, i think he should ahve won. tanners wasnt as big but he had pretty good tricks. some people just wanted simon to win. i am gonna claim, i got a nice snowball to the top of the judges tent. haha.

Totally agree. I hate how people hate on Tanner all the time. I think once he retires people are gonna realize how much he has contributed to our sport. Im sure he was a cocky little bastard when he first started as anyone else probably would be in his position but even then he's still the best skier.

Tanner's run was one of the best runs in Halfpipe history...don't tell me Dumont shoulda won.

I'll tell you what, if I were a gaper who didn't know about steeze, I would think that Dumont shoulda won too...5 huge hits that spun to the left, no good these days if you wanna hang with Tanner's unnatural rightside 9, the 12, the flat 5 the 9, the (i forgot), and then the smoothest flat 3 I have ever seen...it just doesn't compare to Tanner. Dumont stomped the shit out of his run. But so did Tanner, and Tanner just clearly made the better run. If Dumont really wanted to win, he should have learned how to boost 21 feet while spinning right. That would have gotten him gold.

Oh also I think Hatveits run was phenomenal. Sooooo smooth and soooooo steezy.

Jah only knows what woulda happened if Peter O stomped that last 10....

skiing is supposed to be chill, what the fuck was tanner booed for? throwing down one of the best pipe runs ever? what were the judges booed for? recognising and rewarding the more technical run with more hits? common guys we should be better than that. do we really want to outside world to perceive skiers as a bunch of tools

I really think Tanner was booed because when he realised he won after Simon's 3rd, he gave a half assed attempt at his last run - I know that he did it to avoid any unnecessary injury for the future, but people were out there to see the final THall run and they expected something amazing, and he showed 3 straight airs in a row and a few 3's and a 5..nothing major.

It was completely logical, but from a crowds perspective they were pissed.

All it would have taken was a massive KANG and a cossack and all would have been good!

Either way I seriously have so much respect for Tanner out of this. No i'm not on his cock (no homo), but seriously given that he just spent the last month in Retallack skiing waist deep pow, then comes out to X and throws down such amazing runs which we all saw..to take gold again.

THAT is a well rounded skier right there. He hasn't spent the last 3 months training pipe for X/USFO etc, he's been out in the deep stuff shredding the gnar.

To come from that and shuffle over to Aspen for X and take it out is just plain awesome considering the competition he was up against.

yea true that. but if he'd actually tried on that run and stuffed up there woulds been a huge shit storm about how he shouldn't have won. stupid people haha probably half the crowd was never been down a pipe anyway. it must be devastating having just won then having the crowd boo

^word. i love how the commentators were all like "months of training to get this run down..months."

p.s. some one needs to kidnap the commentators.

dumont cork 9 3rd run was REDICULOUS.i think tanner ia a best pipe skier than dumont, but dumont is a fucking show man!yet candide steez miss me

i dont think simon deserved to win, as much as i dislike tanner, that run so deserved the gold, thats probably the best run i've ever seen in the pipe, and simons didnt match it, less hits, to unatural spins...meh, tanner was a gay at the bottom though, when he was telling simon how to win..

the reason everyone was booing was the fact that none of them have any idea about pipe and are going for what looks the best not technical or amount of hits- i almost shit my pants when he boosted out on his first hit- coolest run ive seen in a while

exactly, as a fellow australia i agree with you!

booing tanner for clearly beating dumont was disgraceful.

everyone has there views but the point is tanner had 7 hits with grabs and spun both ways.

dumont had 5 hits, hucked and didnt spin both ways and its ampitude wasnt that much bigger!

oh and tanner did right 9 first hit...PROPS!

i was just hoping that someone like riddle, jossi, colby orandreas would beat simon and tanner so this arguement wouldnt be happening, haha

but maybe tanner deserved the booing becauseof his celebration after simon fell on his first run, that was kinda a dick move

I;m am sure some poeple have posted this already but I need to reiterate it.

FANS WERE NOT BOOING TANNER, THEY WERE BOOING THE JUDGES,

It was just an unfortinute serious of events for Hall.

Much respect for both of them, and quoting Tanner,

"Half pipe skiing tonight took a giant leap..."(Hall, 07)

This is the worst argument ever. So what if they some were booing

judges it was OBVIOUS that a lot of people were specifically booing

Tanner. Obviously the majority of those people at the X Games don't

understand skiing like NS does, people want the brahs that go bigger to

win. More technical runs can look boring at times if executed well

because that shit is smooth, like Tanner. Most people don't understand

how fucking hard a Right 9 is. Jebus. Even if you are booing the

judges, come the fuck on, its obvious you don't know enough about skiing

that Tanner's run was clearly the better run.

people just want the underdog to win it, i think they were more booing the judges, not tanner, and tanner has shown he's kinda a cocky bastard anyway so i didnt mind the boo's

dude, I never said anything about who's run was better...

i just stated that fans were booing judges not hall...

it's a shame and pretty embarrasing to have a bunch of retards booing at the most impressive halfpipe comp ever. tanner's run was outrageous. period. plus he was obviously having fun - skiing because he loves it. nice work tanner. he dominated this comp from the beginning of practice. hall is forever the park comp master and has nothing left to prove.

The only reason I could think of to boo tanner was that his victory lap was kind of boring. If I had just one x-games pipe I would throw down the coolest tricks i know...throw in a backie....who cares, just make it a crowd pleaser...They should have scored Simon a 92.3, or whatever Tanner got so that we could see another run.

you aren't taking into account how big a deal it is to start off a run with an unnatural 900, only a couply of pipe skiers can throw unatural 9s (only Andreas and Tanner come to mind).

and to start off an unbelievably technical run with a big unnatural spin is crazy, any little mistake in the first hit and your run is fucked.

Tanner through every trick dumont did (minus the 7) and more, with more style.

heres how i see it (technically, not including stlye):

tanner simon

right side 9 left9 (2points tanner)

1260 left9 (1point tanner)

Alleyoop 5 left1260 (1point dumont)

900 left720 (1point tanner)

Alley oop 3 sw left720(1 point dumont)

Sw 720 ---(1point tanner)

alley oop 9 ---(1point tanner)

Tanner's first 5 hits were technically better than dumonts entire run, but dumont went bigger, so if tanner only had 5 hits, dumont winning would be half expected. but T$ had two baller tricks at the end, which were also tricks that dumont had done in his run.

i haven't been a big tanner fan for the last couple of years but after watching his hp runs i changed my mind. people are bitching that simon should have won and that tanner was talking down on him. i think tanner was just being truthful because if simon would have spun both ways he probably would have won. tanners run in my opinion was one of the best pipe runs i have seen. i think he has changed his attitude in a way that make him more likable. i also think the people who were booing are not people who know a whole lot about skiing they mostly think if you go the biggest you should win this is kinda what the mainstream media show people and we need to change that.

If he spun any of those spins unnatural he would have won. But he didn't and that's just the fact of the matter. If he wants to win, he's gonna have to learn to spin rightside.

tanner definitely should have won even though dumonts run was so dope. Fuck the guys who are booing tanner. When tanner was known for being a slopestyle guy and everyone gave him shit because he couldn't ski halfpipe, he took the time and threw down and won 3 years in a row. When they said he couldn't ski real mountain terrain he stepped it up and made one of the sickest backcountry only movies ever made. Tanner is taking the sport to whole new levels by himself and whoever talks shit is just jealous.

what was rediculous was that i saw 2 snowballs thrown AT tanner during his last run, not only is that disrespectful, but its dangerous. If simon learned how to grab and spin the the right he would have taken it. Also Jossi's run got 7th, i thought it would be a little bit higher, it was so smooth, that kid hayward looks sick, going to be hearing about him in the future

The people booing at tanner really got to him... Also kinda sucks, this guy is good. Looking closely at Tanner and Dumont's run, tanner did more variations while Dumont went huge, but a little unstable on landings though.

a few points to make.....correct me if im wrong but accrding to some of the posts when did dumont have "pencil" spins during his runs? as far as i remember he grabbed all of his ticks including the 1260 in his last run (which if u watch in tanners run he didn't). and i'm sure someone has said this but i don't think that the fans were booing tanner....but the judges. People were cheering after he landed his second and winning run. Personally if i were a judge it would have been hard to not give it to tanner in the fact of how tech his run was...props to dumont for the balls to the walls amplitude though

^yeah man it must be said for him to. in the jovb interview with himhe was saying to his dad he couldnt beleave that they booed him. i cant beleave it either.

yea i cant beleave it either. but seriously in the video blog interview it was really said when he said i get boo'd a lot. i think tanner has matured a ton.
