YAY, hes the only hope to save this nation so vote for him. If you don't believe me read his book, its good, I'm rereading it.
 
big whooop. you honestly think the powers that be will tolerate a black president...unless he's being groomed for a future scapegoat. but im just cynical.
 
I support his decision to run for president fully and I am proud that our nation has finally reached a point where all people can run for president. However, i do feel that some people will choose not to vote for him solely because he is black. I also fear that this will detract votes from the democrats allowing the republicans to take controll once again.
 
^anyone can run for president. You can write your own name on the ballot if you want. And he won't be detracting from democrat votes, because he'd run on the democrat ticket. With that said, I don't think he'll get the democrat nom except as a VP for Edwards.

unfortuanetly i don´t think he will make it, he even doesn´t get the most black people´s votes just cuz they think he is trying to be white...
 
yeah they may not intentially vote in a republican, but if Obama and Clinton both run, they may split the democratic vote and in turn give the republicans the presidency again. don't you remember how bad Nader f'd that other election?

Second of all i think Obama could be a good candidate in the future...but i dont think hes been around long enough to bea a serious contender.

And unfortunately it may still be to earlier for a minority to take the white house as sad as it is....look at the past there has never beed a woman or a black candidate who seriously contended for the white house...I think its a mistake for the democrats to be pushing both in one election!!
 
barack is a dem. but since its in the major beginnings of the election barack is in the lead for me. this is the first time i'll vote and i'm gonna try to make a good pick. barack just seems the most level headed and intelligent for me. the only problem with him is his lack of leading experience.
 
Obama and Clinton are running against each other to be the democrats nominee for president. They will not split each others vote because only one of them will end up as the democrat nominee. Nader wasn't a democrat either. I agree with others though that the winner of the democratic party will win the presidency because the dems have control over the Senate and Congress, while Iraq is a complete disaster and even though Barrak was always against it, iraq will not be the reason why the repubs go down. Foreign policy has never taken down a president before. Sure it could have been a factor but the primary cause has always been domestic politics. Given the attrocious state of their economy among their many other domestic issues the repubs will lose. I think Barrak actually has a good chance to win the dems and presidency because he doesn't have many people who dislike him. Unlike Hillary. He is also going to win support of the people in his region, as voters always support the candidate from their area. Look at the area he is in. He's surrounded in Illinois by battleground states. Those will turn into dems. Also being that he is black will bring out the black vote. Which is always under represented because they feel they have no one who represents them. The black vote will be huge and considering Florida (another contentious state) has a large black population, the black vote will turn that state blue. Now before you go off thinking well what about the rednecks who hate blacks. Their votes have always been there, voting for the republicans, they have always been represented. The thing you also have to remember is that these people are largely in non-contentious states that are clear cut republican. Barrack actually has a lot of potential when you think about what it.
 
hillary scares the shit outta me, but i would rather have her in the white house than obama because she's predictable. if obama becomes president i am going to leave the US.
 
He's only half black, so he may be the stepping stone to a full on black president. Kinda like the super bowl; can't have the first black coach to win be truly black, gota take baby steps.
 
Im not saying it isnt possible...and yes he does have a chance but hes only been at the natianal level his 2004...thats not really alot to go off..i think it may hurt his chances of course he can say hes always been agaisnt the iraq war because he wasnt even around to vote for it 5 years ago...convienient considering damn near everyone 80-20 in the senate voted for the war...I think he would have a better shot after establishing himslef in the senate for another term!!
 
i don't care if you're black, white, red, orange, or pink; i will not vote in someone that is muslim, and i have alot of friends that are muslim.
 
Actually, he's not Muslim. He's a Christian. He went to a public school when he was a kid that catered to muslims (similar to a muslim going to a catholic school or a christian college or whatever). He was exposed to many religions throughout his life and he picked Christianity, he wasn't born into it. That, in my mind, makes him a stronger christian than some people who are only christian because their parents were.
 
sconny's right, side parties like the green party, while seemingly harmless, actually very often hurt the democrats because the people who vote for those kkinds of guys would vote democrat had the third party not been an option
 
And honestly, as much as I liked his book and his ability to speak to a crowd, I don't know if I'll vote for him. Right now, nobody has my vote. As soon as we get somebody who's fiscally conservative but socially accepting (peaceful people should do what they please. My views, or anybody elses views, on if you should marry, dress a certain way, smoke what you want shouldn't matter if you're not harming other people), then I'll vote for them. Otherwise, I'll keeping waiting.
 
Some yes but most are green party radicals who if their candidates didnt run wouldnt vote period...and yes some would vote dem and others may even vote republican...if you wanna play could of would of game thats fine but its a pointless and never ending debate!!
 
No he wasn't. Read either of his books and you'll see that he was raised in a house that had a bible, coran, bhagavad ghita, and other books of worship from different religions. He went to a muslim PUBLIC SCHOOL, which means nothing more than he went to a public school in an area of the world in which Muslims are the majority.
 
His father WAS Muslim and his mother was an athiest. His father moved out when he was 2 years old, therefore having very little to no influence on him beyond what he learned from his grandparents (as talked about in Dreams From My Father).
 
Why would that be bad anyways? I'd like to see our country run by someone other than the line of rich, white Christian men, might do some good for the 90% of our country that doesn't fit that category.
 
And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't their some important document that our country is supposed to be based on that says that religion and government shouldn't be intertwined?
 
obama is very young, inexperienced, and has muslim influence. that's awesome that he is a christian, but i'm sure he wants muslim vote and i bet he will do anything to get that vote. do whatever you would like, it's a free country and i will not stop you. go ahead, don't vote for jeb because he is related to dubya. i care alot but i'm not going to cry over spilt milk. dubya is not the best president but he has held up pretty well for this situation.
 
I never said I wouldn't vote for Jeb because of his family, I was asking you if that was the same as why you wouldn't vote for Obama. Not voting for him is fine, I don't care, I may not vote for him. But atleast do it for the applicable reasons, such as (as you listed) inexperience and young.
 
And also (last point for now, don't worry) I really don't think muslim influence would be bad. A [Christian] candidate with knowledge and influences in many religions and cultures would, for me, make him a better candidate. Knowledge is power (fuck ya, remember that saying?) and if we can have somebody running our country who understands these different aspects of American and the world, then I think we're better off.
 
I thought we were at war with extremists and terrorists? Now your turn, go ahead and say that those terrorists ARE muslims and then think about the war we've been having in America with extremists for many years (KKK, the extremists who bomb abortion clinics, the God Hates Fags people) and think about what religion they are.
 
um, do you even know how elections work? even if the democrats have control of the Senate and the Congress, that doesn't mean they pick the president.

and just wondering, but how many of the people posting in this topic are even 18 and allowed to vote? also how many people are old enough to really remember the election when Nader ran?
 
hahahaha yea, but we have been "fighting" those for forever. yes, it's getting really old, but we need to end the shit that happening between us, iraq, iran, afghanistan, north korea, china, russia, etc. they are a serious threat to our WHOLE country. inside the US, GET A DAMN GUN!!!!!! THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!!! i have a freakin gun underneath my bed!
 
And we've been at war with countries that are christian too. We aren't fighting a religious war. People might try to make it one, but it's never been about religion.

The democrats have been shitting the bed lately. George Bush is a mediocre president. All the democrats had to do was find someone who was a little bit better than Bush... and they picked John Kerry. It's no surprise they lost. If they pick Obama or Hilary, they're just gonna be shooting themselves in the foot again. Unfortunately the US still has a lot of racists who would never vote for a black person and plenty of people that would never vote for a woman.

McCain might have been my vote too, but he's an absolute Hawk when it comes to the war. He's also been siding up with Bush a lot more recently, which is a little disappointing. For a while, he was the only person really against Bush's policies, certainly in the republican party anyways. I'm sure he'll get some of the moderate vote, but man, he's on the path to being a hardline Republican by 2008.
 
You really scare me. Mostly because looking at the polls, there must be large numbers of others out there like you.
