If I was the coach I would pick Joss as well and this is why...
The coach job is to put together the best team for the Olympics, to try and get as many people on the podium as possible, and this competition season I would choose Joss over Wally. Joss recorded the highest scored slopestyle run ever just a few days ago, while Wally, THIS YEAR, has not proven he can make the podium for a single event. You can't bring up past achievements as a reason for making the team this year, that is illogical and bias.
However, I completely agree that Wally should be on the team. Not necessarily because I believe he could win, but just because he embodies what slopestyle skiing should be, and would be a great leader for the team and increase America's chance at winning overall.
This whole Olympic selection process was horrible and made no sense whatsoever. 3 of the spots on the team should be coaches decision, and have the last spot be made by the person who has the highest overall score over FOUR (not that bs best 2 scores) of the five 'Olympic qualifiers'. I understand the idea of being fair, and allowing everyone an 'equal' chance of making the team via competitions, but that is an inherently flawed idea because all the competitions are opinionated/judged, which is a nightmare and unfair because that clown Steel Spence has horrible taste in skiing.
Don't be mad at the coach for picking Joss, he 100% earned his spot on the team with that last world cup. If you want to be mad, be pissed on the selection process, and how B.Brown and Gus get put on a pedestal by the judges every fucking time and get scored way too high on their boring ugly runs.
