Why Wallisch should be going to the Olympics

Free skiing only belongs in the olympics because some dumbass put snowboarding in them.

It shouldn't be a paramount part of the sport. Obviously the olympics are the pinnacle of things like figure skating or shotput. But something like baseball they don't matter (and aren't currently part of.) So again it shouldn't be the be all and end all.

The Olympics are for ski racing and ski jump not free skiing. Free skiiers are just there to hold Shaun Whites junk.

this is what the olympics are about, taking the 3 best athletes who have the best chance at a metal. There are thirty or forty riders in my opinion from the US that could potentially win a medal, but we see goepper, joss, kenworthy. Not really sure joss is ready or has the tricks, feel like tom or mccrae would have been smarter picks since they both have won xgames, but twalls just about over the hill in skiing. Look at dumont! another old fan favorite that just pushes himself too hard against kids like lyman who can get up after a bad fall.

Espn said Tom is skiing without an ACL. Which would explain why he hasn't been able to raise his level of skiing to the point he needed to get selected.

if he can get 4th at the grand prix without an acl, why couldn't he podium at the olympics without one?

I didn't say he couldn't. I said he wasn't able to raise the level of his skiing to the level the coaches thought was necessary. Now obviously a lot of people on this site don't agree with that but from the coaches perspective if he could have done it then he should have done it. Difference in most opinions are between here is what he could have done and what he did.

Joss killed it in qualifiers today, Tom not so much. Looks like it could have been a good move after all, still feel bad that Tom busted his ass promoting the USA olympic team for the last two years

Did someone speak to early about tom making a release? I saw the deleted comment and that makes me pretty suspicious that we aren't getting the full story

This post is a well spoken argument and opinion, except for the multiple uses of the term 'Olympic Committee".

The decision regarding who makes the US slopestyle team is not decided by any "Olympic Committee", it's a decision that's made by the US Freeskiing Team.

Just semantics really but if your going to stir up hard feelings against whoever makes these kind of decisions, it's good to be clear about who, in fact, you are actually mad at.

U R Right - Joss Christensen is a hot rider! if the Olympic coaches were taking into account past accomplishments, the history , medals etc. they would have picked Schlopy a former Olympian. Toms great with his multiple triple & as you say being the face of the sport ,etc.,but thats not enough to earn him the spot, especially with a torn ACL..The coaches did have foresight ,they picked Joss.Podium with gold rocked the spot for Joss & He deserves to go based on his performance and hard work to get there.

They don't have the full triple with extra cheese and crispy bacon afterbang style that wallisch has. He's the smoothest railer and lands tricks like no mans business. Not to mention that he practically changed skiing to what it is just now.

My hero.

Great watch, thanks for posting. Really hoping that he's able to stay in good enough shape to have a shot at it in 4 years. Really wanted to see him compete and obviously he really wanted to as well. Glad that he was able to get on skis and give it such a solid effort. Shitty situation though.

Haha, have you even seen his triples? The sw triple was non-grabbed and the forward triple was just straight up scetchy and looked more way, WAY more hucked than Gus's, Nick's and Bobby's. I don't mean to critize, they are triples after all and look pretty sick, but Wallisch hasn't done a clean one like you imply. And the claim you make about him changing the sport is debatable, but I'm not gonna go into that.

if you speak against Tom in this thread, you're gonna get down-voted and look like an idiot..by the 10th page i figured you would have realized.

Amen!! I'm still so bummed out. Its hard for me to get excited about everyone's tweets and fb status's about going to Sochi because Tom should be on his way too. I know I have to get over it, but damnit Im going to Sochi in 2 weeks and it was mainly to see Tom reppin the USA. #Pityparty

He's also the only Australian freeskier I'm aware of that is of Olympic caliber, and therefore faced NO competition getting onto the Australian freeski team. Hell, he is the team. Wallisch has to fight against younger, healthier kids who work just as hard as he does. So shut your ass.
