What do YOU think about the military?

yea i thought about joining the air force, i think it'd be madd cool to be a pilot for a career and thats probably the best and cheapest way to go through training for it

yeah but when the war started, we didnt know that the whole WMD thing was a big lie, and WMDs would be a just reason to start a war. At the wars beginning, we didnt know that we had elected a total dumbass

I don't support war or conflict, but it is an unavoidable part of human existence. Maybe if the causes were right, I'd serve the military of the country I am most attached to, to protect freedom and the interests of said country.

I'm not talking about a scenario like Iraq though, which I judge not worthwhile, don't get me wrong.

id join if i could fly a helicopter or a plane or just drop huge bombs and kill as many muslims as possible

Because business would leave China if they had to all of a sudden "pay" them. You don't understand much about debt. The thing is, China and other countries "owe" us far more than we have spent in terms of debt.

You're confusing deficit and debt. There's a trade deficit, but we don't haev "debt" in China. We have invested, yes but that's OUR money. We don't owe them money, just trade deficit.

well, seeing the fact that you cant even spell country right, im pretty sure the army (or reserve or whatever) is the only place for you to go

http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

The thing is, we are spending ALOT more money than we will ever have. Instead of making money, we are losing it , you cant argue that. I shouldnt have to pay money to the government from my paycheck because they fucked up and spent more money than they should have, case closed. Thats the problem i have, the public has to pay all of this back , cause no one else is going to. Can you please tell me where we are going to pull 8 trillion out of our ass?

no its really not hard to get in at all...i would recommend air national guard not because its what im in but their training is an accredited program where u receive actual college credits while in basic and tech school...its the only branch that has that!!

Also if you plan on joining lemme know cuz for any person i recommend i receive $2000 dollars which i would split with u!!

I ran across one of those people today that believed the only way to support your country was to join the military. He just got back from basic a few months ago or something. There was kinda an argument.

What about doctors for instance? Why are doctors any less patriotic than a lieutenant in the air force? Doctors save the lives of people in our country. In their own way, they too defend the freedoms of this country. Without them, whats the use of defending and fighting for a country that's citizens die from broken bones and minor flu's? And its like that for other professions as well. Take them away and send them to fight and you destabilize the country. They're just as essential to the nation as infantry is. You arent more patriotic because you've joined the military. You're as patriotic as every citizen is in this country. We all work to make this country what it is.

And what the fucks with patriotism anyways? *sigh* thats probably best saved for another discussion.

I am against ANY offensive action against anybody. I will be joining the Canadian Coast Guard soon. I want to help people in crisis and make a positive contribution to my country.

I will never join an army...the only exception is that the forces need to defend against a force willing to terminate us.

Are you familar with the way our country runs? Our national debt is not significant, but our debt per capita is.

A huge chunk of the population is spending what they don't have thanks to credit cards, loans, etc. It's not just the government. Our national debt is almost meaningless. We don't need to pull 8 trillion out of our ass because it's already accounted for by tradable items.

All our debt is credited in other aspects that aren't monetary. What I mean is our debt is covered in places that aren't having to do with money. Like per capita and assets. Those military veichles and such are all part of assets that are a value of our debt...if I'm making sense?

ski reefer ur a dumb fuck. Military is essential and the people that join are heros, dont think that the good people who support the military are brainwashed you fucking piece of shit!

ehh dont worry man if u dont want to kill or be killed there are a million jobs including paper pushing...maintenance... refueling... supply !! Where u wont be endanger at all and you cant really beat the money and school

i vote this the stupidest post so far in this thread

mitch, i read in the company of heros, that was a sick book. def my favorite ive read so far

as for the military, it matters what were fighting against to me if i would volunteer, but if i got drafted i would serve. i like how most of the people in this thread said that if there was a draft, theyd move to canada. why dont you just move their now?

Shut the fuck up dude. Most kids do the National Guard to pay for college, not to be some bad ass Special Forces operator. The Guard is also a way for older soldiers(like my dad) to earn a pension from the military and not be full time soldiers. You have NO right to talk shit on them

Then how do you suggest we keep the number of troops that we have? Are you saying that instead of having a reserve, we just have a draft? Because the only way to get the appropriate amount of "Real Soldiers" (according to you) is not possible without a draft.

hahaha untrained i went to the same basic training as active duty and do u realize in Vietnam, the 1st gulf war and and the second gulf war more than 50% the major bombing runs and troops were from guard units but hey u have the right to be uneducated u r correct

They're national guard, of course they aren't as hardcore as the army. We train them differently so that they can help out the nation in times of need. Reservists get a lot of disaster training and such, which I think is more essential than fighting skills when it comes to defending the US. You're argument is shit. Thats like calling a firefighter a dumbass because he cant shoot a gun. Its a different job, different purpose.

exactly how many active duty went to new orleans during katrina ....or when the tsunami hit or when african nations go into crisis and need food and supplies but hey u r right we just sit on out ass in the guard and do nothing...i hope u know how dumb u really look mewschooler

the national guard and reserve should not be in iraq, use them for shit like katrina if you say thats what they are trained for. i think our fighting force should consist of the air force and navy, and for ground troops we should have a small number of highly trained troops. having 200k guys who do patrols and get blown up with ied's aint getting us anywhere, if we had a smaller presence i think we could be more lethal.

that has NOTHING to do with WHO is there, that is a policy issue. We could have a 100,000 marines and navy seals (and the other elites) and if the policy issue isn't working, WHO is there doesn't matter. You can't argue that the wrong people are there when you end your argument with policy.

If we deploy less troops, its very likely civil war would erupt between the Sunni and Shiite factions in Iraq. Reservists right now make up much of the force over there because recruitment has been so low for years... blame that on whatever you want.

they are trained for both do u know how many fighter wings in the us are not active bases just off the top of your head?

And how many of the air force reserve and guard bases fly non stop 30 hour sorties to Iraq almost weekly?

I love this guy, he actually knows what he's talking about. I was gonna go back up and quote that too.

i apologize i wasent clear enough, i have no problem with the air force national guard and reserve pilots and there crews. the pilots need the same training and education as full time air force pilots do( 4 years of college and all the pilot training and officer candidate school) i have a problem with reserve and guard troops, that actual go fight in baghdad, i dont think they are good enough.

That's fine to think that but, just so I can check it out too, what evidence do you have that shows that they don't have enough training? Just saying that they aren't trained in the same was as full-time soldiers isn't what I'm looking for either, I'm looking for solid evidence. Thanks dude.

I wasn't competing actually. I was looking for a good argument so I could expand my knowledge and shape my own opinion. Sorry I challenged your opinion, I'll be sure not to do that in the future.

so again, I ask you, what's your reasoning for such disgrace? You continuing to state such opinions without reasoning is pretty useless.
