So I just got an old desktop computer from my aunt, now I was pretty excited because it came with a monitor, printer, and wirelss keyboard and mouse. So the monitor and printer are golden but I wanted to hook the wireless keyboard and mouse up to my laptop, but when i go to plug it in, I see this shit

Who the hell designs that shit for desktops only, is that really intelligent at all?

The worst part is, I have super long fingers, so the keyboard and mouse fit my hands perfectly, but of course they dont work and never will.

you chose a good filter, but coulda saved yourself a few bucks by going with tiffen. I use them and my only complaint is that the cap doesn't snap on perfectly.

but b+w's are great I got one on my 70-200.
 
49mm tiffen circular polarizor, $20. Its $30 on bandh. Just too small for my canon lenses, perfect for a camcorder or 4/3.

Obviously they had some type of lightsource to light the front of the car well. To get the darker background though, is that how they just exposed the image, or is there possibly a graduated filter, or a graduated filter used in post-processing? Thanks guys, just curious.

Bunch of kids have been asking questions about stuff that isn't quiteee threadworthy, but beyond my knowledge and without someone to direct them to. So bumping this in hopes that people can post more questions and get answers!
 
Do you know a way of easily ramping speed in ae? I have always used the time stretch since I haven't been wanting to ramp, but now what I see the time remapping, its really confusing and backwards. Is there a way to have it be like 100% speed and then ramp down to 250% or something? I know you could set keyframes with the different frame counts in the time remapping, but that is really tedious and it doesnt tell you what percentage it is. Would I just keyframe the time stretch somehow?
 
Also, I'm wondering how you guys carry your camera gear while skiing? I'd assume you put it in a photo bag (like one of those lowepro backpacks or whatever), but maybe you use something different. Are there any good bags that aren't like $200? What about carrying a tripod? Do you have a bag for it or do you just carry it without out? I've had a hard time using both my backpack and my tripod when skiing, especialy on the lift. The bag I can just take off partially and have it on one shoulder sitting next to me, but with the tripod, I have to hold it and my poles in my other hand, which is really sketchy and feels like I'm gonna drop it. Do they make bags with tripod straps on them? How do you guys deal with your glidecams and tripods and other stuff than just camera bags?

thats a ramp but slow motion. I meant like, slow motion is anything under 100% and speeding up is above 100, you mentioned speeding up (250%) instead of slowing down (80/50/40 are common ones)
 
oh, yeah i meant like 250% stetch. But yeah, thats 40% slow motion/40% speed. Can you keyframe the speed of it without the time remapping effect?
 
not sure what kind of car situation you are in, but if I have to carry everything i strap my tripod/glidecam to my bag. I often leave all my shit in my car and bring up my glidecam/camera or camera/triod. Also, if you're filming, why the fuq do you have poles? Unless you're skiing to somewhere that isn't accessible by groomer, ditch those fuckers.
 
If you don't have a tripod strap just make one, buy some lashing straps with cam buckle and sew it on( make sure it's done well).
 
haha yeah, I normally ski without them, but sometimes I take them with me and ditch them in the park. Yeah I guess I could easily just have the tripod strapped to the bag or just carry it in my other hand. What bag do you have?

Also, why is it when I look at the thumbnail of a raw photo it looks flat( which I want) and when I open it in camera raw or Lightroom it looks heavily contrasted, and bring the contrast down all the way causes noise? Is it to do with the cinestlyle profile? How can I sort this

If you're shooting raw, don't use Cinestyle. It's not designed for stills anyway, its basically a LUT system for non-raw video workflows.

Lightroom is showing you the actual raw image without the Cinestyle flat look applied; the noise is probably there on the thumbnail as well, but it's so small you don't notice it.

I've never thought Cinestyle was very good for video either. Sure it's affordable and simple, but Resolve Lite is free and doesn't sacrifice latitude for noise.
 
Ok, what should I set the still picture profile to for raw? How can I get it to look the same as it does on a computer, so I can expose accordingly. And I looked at the photos in faststone and they still had the cinestlyle look.

Hey guys,

I am trying to find a new "point and shoot" digital camera to replace my wife's older Powershot. This would be used for her general usage and also to be used for skiing/mountain biking. I have been considering the Canon G15/G series until I heard about the shutter lag, and overall lack of performance with moving objects. I currently shoot on a Canon 50D and would prefer not to have to carry that along with me on ski trips all of the time, and have been looking for something smaller to toss into a ski backpack.

I have been out of the loop with all of the newer camera gear and would really appreciate some recommendations in this regard.

Need:

Fast shutter response

Quality autofocus to be able to capture moving objects (skiing/etc.)

Prefer "manual" shooting modes/control

Budget: $0 - $1000

I can answer any questions about anything that I have missed, but would really like to be pointed in some general direction for a quality replacement camera.

Sony rx100!

It is said to blow every other compact out of the water, hell even some dslrs gets shit on by that beast. Its said to have an amazing low light handeling even though it has a 24 mpx sensor.
 
good question. Does the rx100 not have shutter lag? I was looking at compact cameras and the panny lx5/lx7 looked pretty nice, but it probably has shutter lag like most compacts
 
Sorry.i know i have been posting a lot, but if you use a 8mm fish while using the 235 crop, will it look bad? I feel like the distortion will be messed up. Does anyone know what im saying?
 
Find a video of it in 16:9 and crop to 2.35:1. That'll be what it looks like(ignore the framing)
 
Canon s100 or s110? I mean most point and shoots are gonna have lag if you're used to slrs. I played with the s100 and whatever two g sereis one's they're on now in my local camera shop. The s100 is quite nice, the ring control around the lens is sick, it's small. It has full manual, you can set the ring around the lens to a lot of things, including focus. No viewfinder though. The g ones are kinda big for a point and shoot, the g1x or whatever it is has a larger sensor I think. The g1x was especially large too. Almost dslr large, but without the lens sticking off. The g series did feel decently solid.

No idea on the shutter response though, but again most point and shoots have lag. I forgot to pay attention to that when messing with the camera. I think my s70 has a bit less lag when it's in manual and the screen is off, rather than some auto mode with the screen on. I'm about to buy myself an s100. My s70 is starting to derp. I've learned to live with the lag, and I bet newer p and s cameras have less lag then mine.

 
Thanks for the info, I will check them out. I would much prefer less shutter lag than sensor size. I've already crossed the G series off my list because of the lag and autofocus speed, or lack thereof.

Looking around on BH hungover this morning and I stumbled onto this, Leica D-LUC 6; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/891920-REG/Leica_18461_D_LUX_6_Digital_Camera.html

I've never looked at any of Leica's offerings but this one sounds very interesting and seems to be more of the direction I would like to go; more manual controls. Anyone have any insight on these things, or any of Leica's other "point and shoot" compacts? It definitely has some cool features that have caught my attention.
 
Could someone recommend me a beginner flash for my T2i? I was looking at the canon models and they are all rediculously expensive. Are there any decent sub 100 ones? I don't really need the auto/ttl features so I could just get it all manual.
 
You can get a speedlight for $45 WITH ttl, but ttl really isn't that useful. The thing(as far as I'm aware) that causes the higher end ones to cost money(aside from canon brand ones(which are expensive because they're a canon accessory)) is the high speed sync, a cheap flashgun will only be able to shoot at 1/250 or slower, high speed sync makes them go faster, but they're expensive, I'm pretty sure the cheapest one I saw with hss was a 160$ chinese copy.

Here's one I've used, it's acceptable at slower than 1/250th.
 
Really? $45 with ttl? TTL is the thing that checks the exposure and lets you control the flash through the camera instead of having to mess with the settings on the physicial flash unit, right? I will probably not need the high speed synch since my t2i (I believe) can only shoot up to 1/200th or 1/250th of a second anyways. So the yongnuo yn560s are good? I'll check those out then. thx Could you link me to the $45 one with ttl?
 
The shutter speed of course goes higher than 1/250th of a second, but I think I read somewhere that the t2i can only synch at 1/200th or 1/250th (forget which) of a second, as with most dslrs.
