Unthreadworthy Thread

But, I have been looking for Pro I backs only. I read somewhere (random internet source) that they aren't interchangeable which makes sense because some other components aren't interchangeable between Pro I and Pro II.

Just to verify, are the backs cross compatible between the Pro I and II or not?

pro 1 backs work with a pro 2 body, RB backs work on an RZ also I'm pretty sure but you have to advance the body and back separately

google 100% has the answer to this

Just redesigned my website. Anybody care to give me some feedback/suggestions? I know absolutely nothing about web design but I'm relatively happy with it. Link is in my signature.

So I have a cousin who is running for district attorney and he wants me to shoot some campaign adds for him, just stuff that would be online. So what I'm asking is how much should I charge per video I make for him? They should all be around 30 seconds to a minute, any suggestions for how much?

Depends on what do you have to shoot and how professional your work will look, also depends if you wanna charge a really lower price than usual cuz it's your cousin. But if it's an easy job I usually charge something around 20$/ hour.

What's up guys, I'm looking for a fast 35 for my 60D, and I definitely want to go vintage since I don't need AF for this one. Under $150 would be nice. Any suggestions?

I have a Canon T3i and mostly shoot stills, anyways I was looking at buying a Tokina 11-16mm and was wondering if anyone could tell me if that would be worth while considering I don't film much?

I shoot 75% stills and I love my 11-16

I have the T3i and Tokina and I love the Tokina for video but I think it can be a little soft for photos. Pretty handy for a lot of shots, like long exposures and some landscapes, but I use my Tamron 17-50 way more for shooting photos.

A mod should really edit the "post your best photography" thread and remove all of the photobucket error images

It should be edited to "post photos you took recently that you're stoked on" but alas, we can't change thread titles when editing :/

I never had the Tamron when I was shooting Canon, but as long as you stop down a bit the 11-16 is pretty sharp.

We can, just not on old threads

Lens question here. I'd like to get more serious with portrait work, maybe do some senior pictures for my brother and friends. I'm looking at the 50mm since i use a t4i, but I can't decide on which one. From what I've read the 2.5 is a little sharper and has a better looking bokeh because of the extra aperture blade. I can find this on ebay for $150-200, while the ol 1.8 is around $80 used. Is this extra money worth it? Another reason i'm leaning towards the 2.5 is because I've been itching to have a macro lens for a while.

I would go for the 1.8, if not the 1.4. If you just want to do portraits, I would stay away from specialty lenses

can anyone tell me if a lens hood is normally included in the box with a Tokina 11-16mm? I just bought one used and it did not have one.

I'm pretty sure it does. TBH it's worthless.

For those that currently own a 5DmkIII;

If you had to do it all over again, would you still go with the 5DmkIII, or would you go a different route? If you would go a different route, which would it be and why?

I've been looking for a full frame DSLR for photos only and cannot decide one way or another. I have no worthwhile glass for my current Canon so I am not stuck with my feet firmly planted in any camp.

Thanks!

has anyone used a canon to m43 mount?

canon lens to m43 body? I have a canon fd -> m43 adapter I haven't used, but I do use a Minolta MD/MC -> m43 and it works well

Would seem quite useful, for photographers and videographers, expect that it has a $800 price tag!!

if you're too lazy for lightroom i think you're shit out of luck

BUMP.

how long does it take for the snow outside of an icerink to melt after they put it outside? also, how much snow is there normally? enough to fill up a truck bed and trailer?

from one dump of the zamboni, it will probably be a truck beds worth... It will probably take a good 8 hours to melt completely....

Just shoot JPG if you're not going to edit, then.

has anyone ever upgraded their macbook pro ram from 2x2 to 2x4? upgrading my hard drive today and was thinking of doing the ram as well if it is worth it

you should go 2x8gb, its cheap and completely worth it IMO

13198378:SDrvper said:
was considering this as-well, but i didnt do the upgrade from the apple store i went to tiger direct and they didnt have the exact 2x8 that they thought i should get. So i took their advice, just got 2x4 and a 750gb hard drive, if the 2x4 isn't good enough i'll try the 2x8

Try out www.crucial.com they have very specific ram for mbps for good prices.
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/apple-memory

If you figure out all the right numbers (latency, timing, hz, etc) you can find 2x8gb on newegg as well. But regardless you'll be looking at $140-160 for 16gb of ram, which is a good deal.

13198428:SDrvper said:
wow shit they have some really good deals on there, i got my the 2x4 for $110, there its $87

I have a mid 2010 mac so technically its not suppose to have 2x8 (even according to that site) but apparently if you get the right one you can

Yeah apple says those older versions don't support 16gb but they definitely do, the OG OSX on the machine might not have but everything is 64bit and the only reason ram isnt supported on a computer is if its 32bit and only can use 4gb of ram. Definitely toss in 16, it makes a difference. I run my mb air with 8gb cause thats the max you can do, but otherwise ive always done 16gb in the past 3 years or so.

I recorded some piano improv through garage band, just to try it. I'm not really big on recording things. I exported it as an mp3 and it's on my phone, so I can listen to it to remember what I played. But it seems that I only get one listen on my phone per time it's turned on/off. There's two on there, if I play either of them then try and play either one, it just goes to the next song. Anybody have any idea why that would be the case? I wouldn't be surprised if it's some drm protection crap since it's apple stuff, which is odd cause it's quite literally my music.

Alternately, and more recently, I've tired recording things in reaper using two keyboards, a digi piano and little korg nanokey for other sounds or e piano, played at the same time. When I replay the recordings, one note from one track plays and that track stops, while the other keeps going. Is there a reason that'd occur? I'm trying to play both at the same time, not record one track and then the other, so it can be played live.

I know these are oddly specific, but if there's an obvious general issue I'm missing, which is likely, than please point it out if you know. I'm a noob at this stuff.

What dslr cage or rig should I get? I have seen that in ten and two they use a dslr cage free handed for low wide angle shots. I am looking into getting one around 150$

Almost considering making a thread on this as there doesn't seem to be anything solid, but looking to switch to a mirrorless camera system, mostly cause of size and weight. I'm very familiar with dslr's, but know relatively nothing about mirrorless. Fuji seems like an obvious choice, but don't know what I should stay away from, etc. I know I'd like to stay away from a fixed lens, would like to be able to swap out lenses. Thinking of selling my Nikon gear to fund a new bike and a more compact camera.

I'd like a camera that i can bring with me biking and backpacking and still shoot decent photos. I'll fill some of this out to help.

1) What is your budget? How much money can you spend right away, and do you think you can get more money to invest in the future?

I'd probably like to spend $500-1000.

2) What experience do you already have with cameras? Have you ever even used one before? Have you helped your friend out with his camera? Have you owned your own?

Yes, fairly experienced with dlsrs.

2) What gear, if any, do you currently have? (tripod, old camera lenses, mics, etc)

Currently own a Nikon D3 along with a variety of lenses.

4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc)

Skiing, biking, backpacking, you name it. Mostly want to compact.
