Unthreadworthy Thread

You are talking about flash sync, which indeed is around 1/250 for dslrs today. Leaf shutter cameras can go higher. You can cheat with fancy pocketwizards, a camera that has a sensor on/sensor off style of shutter (one of the entry level nikons, d50 maybe, does/did have that ability I think) and a few other ways.

You can shoot higher than that, but you're gonna get a dark bar across the image unless you do a few tricks.

Cool thanks. I'll get a yn560 i think. Also, is anyone else having problems with zebras in magic lantern? It lags a TON for me, like 2 frames per second. This is with a pretty fast 45mbitps sandisk extreme 32gb card on my t2i with the newest magic lantern. It should be pretty fast, but for some reason its not. Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem?

I'm fine with histogram for the most part but it would be helpful to have zebras also

suggestions for cheaper christmas presents?

Only have sanyo eneloop rechargables and yn560's on my list so far. Photo gear

My AF isnt working in manual picture mode. Works in auto/no flash picture mode and video mode. I remember it once working, and I have dicked around with everything and cant seem to figure it out. I have used 2 different lenses, and neither work in M mode, so its not the lenses. Anyone have any input?

BTW I have a t3i, with ML installed.

When you say it doesn't work, what does it do? Literally nothing? Have you made sure to have the lens set to autofocus on?(switch). Could you have set back button focusing?

There's probably some way to fix it in the menus and settings on the camera, but what I'd do is just restore the original canon firmware (through an SD card, just like you do with installing magic lantern).

AF is switched to on. And when i mean it doesnt work, absolutely nothing happens. Its like trying to use AF with MF on.

It cant be that, like i said, it works in all different modes, and i have used 2 different lenses. Theres no way both contacts are dirty, but happen to work in every other mode of my camera

Oh, I didn't know it worked in other modes, I thought you meant it just worked in auto. Can you try a factory reset?

Just went to my local camera store. Somehow, i had AF on lock. There was a side of the menu that i didnt even know about.

What do you mean lock? And when you say side of the menu please tell me you're not talking about custom functions

no not custom functions, its hard to explain online. AF was locked in all of the manual picture modes for some reason. all i had to do was un click it, but i didnt know how to get to it through the menu

Well, the D5000 has since been replaced by the D5100 which currently retails for $450 CAD body only With a kit lens it's probably $550-600. Now the D5100 is being replaced by the D5200, So I would imagine the depreciation on your camera is pretty steep.

What do you M&Aers use for video ramping?I'm looking for a way to ramp audio without video, you'd be surprised how difficult it can be to do this.

If anyone has an idea of a program I could use please let me know. Thanks!

What do you mean by ramping? Like what aspect of it? The volume? The speed of it (ie ramped slow motion, going from normal speed down to slow mo back up smoothly)? I'm not sure what your asking

If you mean ramping slow motion, what editing program do you use? In after effects or premiere, the time remapping effect works pretty well, you can have it normal speed at the beginning, set a keyframe, set another keyframe at the end of the part you want slow motion, then drag the end keyframes (the normal speed after the slow mo) to the right and it will make the middle area take up more time, ie make it slow motion. Then you can make the keyframes bezier and mess around with the curves in the graph editor. Thats what my workflow basically is, most of it is just tweaking the curves to make a smooth transition from slow to fast

Yes exactly, I'm just trying to slow an audio file down and then back to normal speed smoothly.Sorry I wasn't more specific, you've basically answered my question though. +K

Ok cool, its basically the same thing with audio, assuming your editing program will allow you to, you may need to go into soundbooth/audition.

Any Idea how you try to fix a shot when in flat light with poor visibility? At short distances I can just use a flash but I have no idea what to do for anything past 5/10m. Here's an example(you can't see the jump or anything):http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6150/mg6116.jpg

WTB: Glidecam 2000HD. Figured it wasnt worth a thread really in Media sooo yeah. Posted in here. I has cash, PM me!

What do you mean by fix? Flat light is flat light. The flash will at least provide a bit more light, even if it's on camera. You could take it into your favorite editing program and mess with the levels. Slide the white point so the picture actually has a defined white for starters. But don't go overboard and lose a ton of detail.

But for the most part flat lighting looks pretty bad and dimensionless.

Well if I use a flash Up close I'm able to see all detail in the snow, I was wondering If there was a long range way.

What are cheap nikon bodys? My cousin got a GH2 and i played around with it inside. Even not hacked it looks much better than a t3i. Im thinking of getting a tokina 11-16 nikon mount with it and then just get decked out with FD primes. However, i dont want to lose good photo capabilities, so how easy is it to adapt FD glass to a nikon body? Can you even do it? Lastly, what are decent nikon bodys that are comparable to a t3i or 60D. Im not very good with nikon stuff.

I was wondering what's a good camera backpack under 150 for the gh2...

It would need to hold:

gh2

14 42 lens

20mm 1.7 lens

some fd primes

a tripod

a glidecam (if possible)

extra batteries filter etc accessory like items

i was looking at the click elite compact for 120

What aspect of it is better than a t3i? The Nikon body comparable to t3i would probably be d3200(although I know very little about Nikon, but they're similar) I'm pretty sure fd mount isn't one of the very few lenses that can be adapted to nikon(there's a list in the vintage glass thread)

I didn't do a side by side test, but the first thing I noticed was how it handled skin tones. The image was much nicer than Canons by far. Next, I cranked up the ISO to 3200 and set the white balance accordingly. I was using the kit 14-140 lens, and the image was pretty sharp, and still was decent at 3200 considering the high ISO. The thing I don't like is that it cannot go up to 6400 ISO.

From what I hear, some hacks have low light capabilities of the FS100, and can create a very very sharp image with high mbs.

The build quality was pretty meh, and to be honest, I didnt even know how to change the aperture. Its setup kinda weird, but I guess it wouldn't be to bad to learn after a few days.

Im thinking of going with a Tokina 11-16, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and a 135mm.

I just don't know if I can get rid of my canon yet. I don't know if I have the balls to. Someone give me some input.

I'm not sure how the gh2 handles noise, but I doubt you'd be using iso 6400. And I find it hard to believe the hack would change noise performance, but I'm not sure. And yeah it's significantly sharper in video mode, I saw a difference in colour, but not a huge amount, and I'm not sure which I'd prefer, check it in different environments.

I could have used 6400. I might not use it often, but id defiantly want to have it. From what I know, the GH2 can have increased low light performance by a hack.

is the glidecam 4000 pro good for a t2i tamron 17-50 rode videomic and possibly getting a tokina soon would it weight out well? i just cant find a 2000 for a good price i also saw that down to film used it with a 60d but i dont know about my set up.. any suggestion is welcome.

If you're doing action photography and skiing stuff, buy a Paul C. Buff Einstein strobe and a vagabond mini. Seriously, it's the fucking best thing since sliced bread

Question for all editing wizards...

Can I mix 60p footage with 60p --> 24p conformed footy in the same timeline? So basically I would have some shots in 60p and some in 24p, then I would export all of it in 24p. Would this be fine? Or cause problems?

got the xr 2000 thanks for the input any word on what quick release plate to go from 701 head and the glidecam quickly

Trying to think of any negatives of swapping my 501 for a 701, as I never use the friction adjustment, nor the auto balance switch, just because my setups a bit light for it properly, would gain a true fluid head and half the weight and £40

Has anyone used the Takumar 50mm 1.4 lens? I'm looking into some vintage lenses, that one is supposedly pretty good. Any recommendations on other good vintage lenses? I'm looking for something in the 50mm range and one in the telephoto 100-200mm range.

The lens is called "Pentax Super-Multi-Coated (SMC) Takumar 50mm f/1.4". Is there a big difference between the various brands of 50mm 1.4 vintage lenses?

That is definitely one of the best vintage 50s. If you find one at a good price definitely pull the trigger. For a vintage tele prime look for a Vivitar Series 1 135 f2.8. I have one in MD mount for my GH2 and it is gorgeous. For a Canon you could pick one up in M42 mount.

Thanks, I'll definitely check that out. Is there a thread on vintage glass for canon? I know theres a m4/3 one, but idk if that will work on my t2i.
