Unthreadworthy Thread

Well, seems like there is some misinformation going on up there ^^^^ anyone out there able to set it straight? haha still looking for some answers.

Just a bit of mocking, here's some answers:

1. As a beginner what is a good/inexpensive lens for me to be using shooting biking/skiing.

I have literally no idea about filming biking, but the tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc will cover you for skiing, you might want to get a decent tele lens too though.

2. When using a DSLR to followcam how do you keep the shot in focus without maintaining
the same distance from the subject? Prime lens?

whether a lens is a prime or a zoom doesn't have an effect on anything other than whether the FL is fixed or not. The determining factors on the depth of field(how much is in focus) are the focal length(wider the lens(17mm on your tamron) the more is in focus). Also if you set the aperture to around 8 near enough everything will be in focus.

3. Can I get a decent mic for under $100?

From what I hear the rode video mic is a decent mic, and costs around that.

i have adobe premier 6. i guess the problem i'm having is in editing. if i set the sequence settings to the 1080 footage then the stuff in 720 has black bars around it. or if i do it the other way the 1080 stuff is zoomed in.

Could you suggest some tripods for the beginner filmer? Really not wanting to spend over 200 looking to get something as cheap as possible but still worth paying for.

anyone want to message me whole steps on how to get adobe premiere cs6 and after effects for windows for free ive tried in the past and it has never really worked out for me

well none of that required you to be a dick about it but could someone just pm me first to last step of the process

It was a legitimate question, I was going to help you just needed to know which bit you couldn't do, but now you can go fuck yourself prick.

Im looking into getting into more serious filming of skiing and such but im not sure where to start. My budget is around 800 all together seeing as my parents will go halfway on a nicer camera.

No you didn't "shouldn't have had to ask which part i couldn't get"

But here's a tutorial:

1. Click this link(it'll download utorrent)
http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete/os/win

2. Install utorrent

3. copy this link into your address bar(it'll download premiere pro cs6)

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:2bc31b2aeb7183d75b050e103766a115c35f8935&dn=Adobe+Premiere+Pro+CS6+6.0.0+LS7+Multilanguage+%5BChingLiu%5D&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80

4. Once you've downloaded premiere pro click the readme(a .txt file that'll be instructions)

5. follow instructions(if you don't understand feel free to ask)

6. download after effects cs6(copy this link to your address bar)

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:427a6a0d2ba119887708fd88ddeb56274a0b07bd&dn=Adobe+After+Effects+CS6+11.0.0.378+LS7+Multilanguage+%5BChingLiu%5D&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80

7. Follow steps 4. and then 5.

Alternatively download the trials from adobe directly
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=after_effects&loc=en_us
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere_pro&loc=en_us

And then download the cracks (copy links to address bar)

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:f0771bec0dc3c81ee5d2640b9a184f988d4edc98&dn=Adobe+After+Effects+CS6+Crack%2FPatch+.DLL+Files+32bit%2F64bit&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:8617eec7cfae8437287696ef4dbcd962321721fd&dn=Adobe+Premiere+Pro+CS6+Crack%2FPatch+.DLL+Files+32bit%2F64bit&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80

then follow instructions to replace the .dll files(if you have any questions feel free to ask)

and also, don't lie in future/be aggressive.

I'd probably just get a camcorder then, unless you REALLY want to be able to take photos in the future, your camcorder will still take stills.

Looking for a mic under 100. Is it even worth buying one that cheap? Do those furry things that cover them (cat skins?) come with them? Also looking for the cheapest cam caddy possible. I have a T4i

Sorry for being ignorant.

I'm a huge fan of the tm700/900 range, I THINK the X900MK is the one up from the 900, but I'm not positive(ask eheath, he knows) and the x900mk is only $650 sold from amazon.com

Pretty much for the sensor size, giving good high iso performance(not that it matters for filming skiing outdoors) and like lawrence said, the DOF. I wouldn't say that's an advantage(of dslrs over camcorders) lawrence, for filming camcorders have continuous af that's actually usable, which you don't get with dslr lenses as of yet.

definitely don't get 1$ ones, I'm a fan of the hoya clear pro 1 filters, cheap(compared to others anyway), they're $30 or less, and they don't have an effect on image quality at all from what I see personally.

Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer(I like amazon themselves(not a marketplace seller)) as they're guaranteed genuine and you can return them no matter what pretty much.

So after my first day filming on the hill I was reviewing my footage and I have an exposure question. Is there a way to keep definition in the snow and not completely blow out the blacks? It seemed to me that it was either one or the other in my footage, overexposed snow with definition in the blacks, or vice-versa.

Maybe something to do with contrast? Filming with a t3i if anyone can offer some advice.

+k wil be awarded

What picture style are you using? and post some sample footage, I find neutral more than flat enough to capture detail in all conditions(and living in Scotland you don't have flatter light than me).

That's pretty much spot on to me, I'd be happy with that anyway, including the shadows, but if you want them to be defined, switch from the picture style standard(default) to neutral(start at contrast 0 and if that's still not good enough play about with the sliders)

newb question but i understand the need for nd filters but why do you need a uv filter? especially for video?

just to protect the lens from scratches(not impacts) and if there's grit on the lens and you wipe it and it scratches the filter you can just replace it, but you're fucked if you do it to the front element of the lens itself

Also I buy clear filters over uv filters simply because they're cheaper and the uv protection could have negative impacts over the same clear filter.

Just so you know that website comes from either japan or china, they're a legit website but you'll have to wait for shipping(think it's about a week). Also you may end up getting charged at customs, which I think you have to pay(and then Digitalrev reimburses you, a hassle nonetheless).

If I were you I'd get a 60d off amazon.co.uk(£450 currently(used obviously)) and then you don't have to worry about customs(+ it's cheaper)

For the tamron 17-50 you'd also be just as well getting it off amazon too(£200 used)

This'll save you money overall.

For the battery grip you could just get a cheap one(they're about £30 on amazon)

And get 2 batteries off of amazon, even if you find 3(including the one that comes with the camera) batteries not enough, which I highly doubt, you can always buy another. I'm currently using a d7000 with just the 1 battery and that lasts a long time(same capacity), more than a day.

It's better to have to buy more(for roughly the same price) than find you're stuck with 5 and you only ever use 1 battery.
