Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

New wave skiing in anything similar looking to track suites needs to die and stay dead. (killing it with fire and a massive 5 kink DFD disater curb stomp while in a xxxl tall t in spring conditions would make a good extermination method for those up to it)

honestly dont recall seeing any major "new wave" skiers wearing a track suit in the past year or so, tall t style is over played and quite honestly new wave is probably the major change skiing needed. Of course its gonna receive critisicm but hey people used to criticize tall t shit. And you cant even lie some of todays best skiers (e.g. A-hall, Kai mahler, syrja) all have a New wave-ish style.

Probably has to do with skis evolving. The trend has gone to wider, more flexible skis with new shapes that allow for the same tricks to be stomped as before, but also allow for playfulness and new creative techniques that perhaps were much harder with narrow, uber camber skis

man I respect your opinion, but it’s so overplayed with the whole “new wave bad” “tracksuit bad” stuff. If you want to hate on “new wavers” then go find one of the literal hundreds of threads dedicated to just that.

Dude if you read back a bit this is THE thread for dudes to complain about the new wave, just let them have it. Honestly it's a style of skiing that's been around since like 2013, it's been main stream for almost just as long, yet every season it's presented by the hater as some brand new thing dumb little kids do. It's because they're so out of touch that they don't realize that "new wave" is just the way tons park skiers ski now.

The gold colorway Pivots are awful as well as pretty much everything else gold. They will clash with almost all skis, boots, and outerwear kit.

Gold would go well with all black. But I’m more surprised you’re not criticizing the gaudiness of forza or the flouro-orange colors

Okay you are no longer invited to my birthday party

seriously tho those things are gonna be fire with my setup (almost entirely black) ?

Contrary to popular belief gold goes well with nothing, not even black. One could argue it goes best with white but this would be nitpicking as both look poor.

Beginner skiing lessons are a waste of money, your friends can show you how to put a boot on, put your weight onto the front of the skis and snowplough in about 30 minutes, beginner ski lessons sliding around the flat with one ski on is a waste of time and money

Lmfao im a park skier and also an instructor to get my free pass each year, i laugh at the idiocy of the twats who sign up for lessons

When the landings to pow boogers are beat as hell, it kinda makes the shot look less sick then if the landing was fresh.

Unless its part of a 2 minute long edit of straight bangers on the jump and you watch the progressive destruction of the landing

I can agree with that

I honestly have zero interest in snowboarding or even watching snowboard edits/movies. Skiing is just so much better in every single way. Style, variety, practicality, progression... you name it. Some of my closest friends are snowboarders and in honesty I prefer riding with skiers who I'm not so particularly close with

the revision talisman was one of the funnest park skis ever made

semi related and probably not to unpopular among people over 6 feet but Armada having most of there park skis top out at 180cm is a joke

I largely agree with this. Im sure some of it is just bias of being a skier but there is more room for variations with skis, especially with grabs. Snowboards you have all the spins but not as many grabs. That being said boarders who can lean a crave over so far that they are just about laying down is sick.

This is a series of edits everyone should watch who slides on snow

I thought you were going to link the 2015 Peace Park shot then. Gotta say that was pretty dope

Tweaked melon grabs are the only grab that looks good on snowboards imo

FS Crail looks amazing on a hip or in a pipe when done properly.

With that being said I think methods on skis look better tbh.

I am closer to some snowboarders and i agree i prefer to ride with skiers who I dont know as well because they tend to be better and i don't have to wait for them.

Having two planks instead of one means more than double the edge length to grab, each ski can move independently, and your body is alligned differently, allowing for much more control and style on all terrain and in the air. I could argue that the best boarders are on par with the best skier, which is impressive, but there are far fewer of them who are actually that good

What exactly is a method on skis? Safety grab with your legs bent back, skis sideways, and your body in a method position?

I kinda envy snowboarders for the whole one (or both) foot out of the bindings thing they can do. I think that all the plants and creative tricks snowboarders have are really neat.

Yeah but skiers don't even need that to have our legs free. I feel like half the reason we've never really seen someone do a fastplant is just because nobody's thought to try it before.

hasn't sami ortlieb done a trick that is essentially a fastplant? he has that whole "loose ski" segment in glacier days where he does a bunch of weird shit

I get that one foot stuff is possible on skis, but imo it looks kinda dorky and doesn't really have the same potential as it does on a snowboard.

Stuff like the flip at 0:22 or the ender

yeah I fully agree the snowboard 1 footers are cooler

any ski trick where you take off your skis intentionally is wack imo haha I still love sami though

Are you the person from on3ps post that threw out the skis?

Nah man it was just an unpopular opinion about that specific style from few years back. I have multiple pairs of on3ps lol

Does anyone have a link to this?
