So I have a question.

Is your general feeling towards religion "Fuck guilt" or "I'd better repent"?

it ends up to be either one of those feelings that stem out of christianity.

or any established religion really.
 
if given only those two options: i'd better repent, because damn, i scare myself at how evil i can really be and that's NOT what i think we were ment to be.

well, no, because your approach to religion can't be something different. every religion involves your actions, and living up to some higher purpose.

now, religions, if you were to follow through with their rules, laws, you would soon see youre 'sinning' all the time.

And its not just for christians,

every major religion has that idea.

ah. i thought it could mean what religion itself ment to people like: a mind trap and a crutch for the weak minded or the logical ending to people's natural spirituality.

the new testament was formed in 300ish AD.

from what I've heard this is what christians base their beliefs upon. So I wouldn't say that the religion is that old.
 
I actually can't contribute to this thread anymore than what has already been said, but I have lost faith in many things in my life, including "God". I have never thought that a being could actually control our world in any way, like Apple said, religion and God are all work of men who crave power to control. Fanaticism is the high point of this control, people kill and destroy just for an ultimate idea, that just is. They won't even question their own belief, because they work for "a higher cause".

As for the string theory, like any theory, are all made up by man and seriosly, in many lifetimes to come, can not be calculated whether they are real or not. Sorry for my English, I'm really tired.

I've been closer to death in the past three months than in my whole life, due to the fact that im in the army at the moment against my will. One bullet, which was very bad luck that it happened, went as close as 30cm near my head in shooting practice. That made me think a lot of the fragileness of life and where we continue on to, if we even do. But yeah, this a great convo, let's keep it up!
 
its weird to se so much of a thread about something that doesnt fucking exist. just because so many people have heard of an afterlife or believe in it doesnt make it any more real. but its a good hypothetical
 
i generaly repect peoples religions, but i really dont understand this dieing for god thing that this jihad war is making people do. i would fight for something i believe in, but not commit suicide for it. war over religion in general seems rather silly to me. i'd fight a war against a people that for some reason wanted to kill me and couldnt be reasoned with (thinking nazis in WWII) or something, but war over religion is really just fighting over who has the best imaginary friend. at least, thats how it seems to me.
 
How can you say there is no proof? All of this didnt "just happen". Someone had to make and design this. Just because you cant or refuse to understand something doesnt mean it its not the truth.
 
well if your brain stops and your existance in the world ends, it would be like sleeping when you dont have a dream, this seems the most logical to me,

i dont spend much time at all thinking about it, im comfortable in not knowing, and im just trying to make the most out of what i know i have.

we were born with bodies to experience the world, if there is a god, he wants us to experience the world, not worry about what happend when its over or why we are all here.
 
i didnt read most of this thread but like dogma(the movie) says just have ideas because they can be changed whereas beliefs cannot change

so a few years ago i was in wyoming at a ranch in the middle of nowhere and it was just me and my family and i was doing alot of fishing which leads to alot of thinking. one day i decided to go for a hike so i walked over to the top of one of the hills/mountains and just sat up there all day and looked out at the emptyness and tried to figure it all out and in the end it all made sense.

i think there has to be a god somewhere but i dotn think there watching over us or anyhting. i think god just is. i also think that we are accountable for our actions at some point, but not necesarily right away and i believe in reincarnation of a sort but its not necesarily like you come back as a grasshopper, its more like you come back as something somewhere but i dotn really know where and you would never know where you were or what you ahd been, you jsut are. being a human is a rare oppertunity because we are aware that we exist and that we die and that things continue to exist after we die. im not sure yet if thats a good or bad thing. i also think that everyhting that ever will does or has existed exists always. so nothing is really ever over and we dotn really ever die, we just arent in the moments that were alive anymore.

i also think that im probably wrogn about all the complex stuff so really i just think that there is a god somewhere even though its not here right now and that there is something, but well never know if were right or not until we die and at that point it no longer matters.
 
isn't it cool that a bunch of people sat at a round table and made some rules and facts about Jesus' origination, and almost 2000 years later, people still follow these rules and beliefs. religions are powerful indeed
 
that's not proof. lack of proof one way does not mean there is proof for the alternative.

And I know there is no way that I could "prove" it to you, no matter what evidence there is, its still your choice to believe what you want. Whether its right or wrong.
 
then there is no proof. if you give real evidence, not just inference, then you should be able to prove that there is a god, and if there is valid evidence then it doesn't matter what my current beliefs are.

Yah I did. If you dont want that to be evidence you will have to dissprove the bible. And that cannot be done just by saying "oh its soooo old, it just cant be real." Or "its been interpeted so many times, it cant be right..."
 
Anyone who says things like "you have to disprove the bible" can't be reasoned with and it's really pretty pointless to talk to them. But to contradict myself entirely,

No one has to "disprove" the bible. If you're claiming that an invisible being exists, the onus of proof is on YOU, not on the people who don't believe you.

That said, I'd rather just believe in God without trying to prove he exists. Isn't that pretty much what faith is all about anyway?

I'll never understand the pressing need some people need to PROVE to others that God exists.

Do you know what empirical means? The bible is not empirical evidence, unless you have some theory as to how God dropped the bible out of the ski.
 
go smoke salvia, you will then feel the universe shrink and disappaear for a few minuets, and you will be in some other world. No joke.
 
I believe when you die, your afterlife exists as you think it should. So if you believe in a heaven, with your family and friends then that is what you will get. Or perhaps you would like to be reincarnated. Or maybe you receive the power to view any event that has ever happened. The possiblilites are endless, so create your own heaven.
