The Men Who Built America

It was a documentary on The History Channel, about Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, JP Morgan, and the business men after the Civil War. It was a great history lesson on business, entrepreneurs, and the risk associated with business. If you want to see it, it is on history.com

I have a question. Did you actually watch the entirety of that speech or have you heard only the sound bites fox news plays?

Yes I have and I can tell you that government intervention actually cause the down fall off all these men.. There are no real monopolies or tycoons left. The government even reposed their houses..... See Newport mansions

I agree with that. Just making you sure you caught what he was actually saying other than the single quote, "You didn't build that"

These guys were the greatest philanthropists in American history. They gave more money to charity than most states

I find it disturbing when individuals become more powerful than governments. You are right they were the greatest philanthropist probably ever. They also acquired so much wealth that they made European kings and queens look like peasants. As an anti-caplitalist i find this disgusting.

That's nothing compared to what these guys have Microsoft and apple dont even touch these guys. Ahmadinejad if you don't think those elections are rigged you need to brush up on having a gun to your head

They weren't rigged. Opinion polls conducted by The Washington Post immediately before the election showed that Ahmadinejad was very popular and way ahead of the opposition.

You can't say they were great philanthrapists because just by acquiring that much money they fucked shit tons of people over, but hey its the american dream. America: where a millionaire, through hard work and exploitation of others, can become a billionare.

you're a dumb bastard. i almost can't believe a single person in society thinks that is who "built" america. rape and fuck over is what they did and are still doing.

The revolutionary guard is known for stamping out opposition do you really think some one is going to risk their life for an American poll

exactly, and you know what? i fucked someone over by getting my job, i took somebodys place, he wasnt good enough, i was and am a better option. these guys are doing the same thing that you and i and everybody else in the fucking world does, just on a larger scale. they also create jobs, and provide us with what we want and need. its survival of the fittest, its not only human nature, its nature in general. when you achieve something its at the expense of others in some way. you make, take, or receive something, its something that somebody else now doesnt get.

if you want to demonize some of the greatest individuals in american history for being successful, creating jobs, supplying the public with what they need, and essentially "building america", get the fuck off your computer, get rid of your cell phone, take off your shoes and clothes, dont use a car or bus, shit not even a bike. and go live in the woods in a hut you built out of twigs. if you do that, then you can talk shit. cause at the moment your just like every other self righteous rich kid hippie who's daily life is surrounded by the conveniences that these "greedy businessmen" provide you.

How can you "build" a nation when you've never done manual labor in your life.

The capitalists/land-owners didn't build America, slaves and wage-laborers did.

These slaves also did a good job for your hero Stalin. At least these guys paid them something and didnt kill them after they finished

They didn't pay the African-Americans.

Also, sociologists estimate that 8 million Americans died during the Great Depression due to malnutrition, starvation, economic hardships, etc.

The extent of labor camps in the former USSR has been grossly exaggerated by bourgeois historians. Anyway, most of the people in there were criminals or counter-revolutionaries.

There are far more people imprisoned in the USA today than at any point in the USSR.

so are you admitting to being completely unaware of the crimes against humanity committed by these "great individuals" like the Rockefellers and J.P.?

or are you admitting that you are an evil bastard and you agree with what they have done???

dafuq

You're missing the point. In getting your job You didn't lobby in the government to keep laws that protected workers from being passed. You didn't exploit human beings and keep them working in the worst (conveniently the cheapest) conditions and paying them not even enough to feed their family so you could increase your bottom line. They could have gotten rich supplied jobs and "built America" without exploiting nearly everyone who worked for them. You're talking like all they did was beat someone out for a job... "You make, take, or recieve something, it's something somebody that somebody else now doesn't get." So they bake billions and other people don't get a decent job and healthy working conditions? Makes sense! They should have been smart enough to monopoloze an industry and treat common people like peasants!

your ideas seem to come so far from one side.. do you ever feel like thats a poor way to convince anyone to see things the way you do?

These guys donated ridiculous amounts of money to charity. And if it wasn't for one of the Rockefellers, Grand Teton National Park would not exist.

Brosph The Ukrainian holodomor was a famine in the 1930 that killed 7.5 million people. It happened under the back drop of mass executions, deportation and incarceration meant to undermine Ukrainian nationalism. At least those that died in the us did not have the government trying to kill them rather help them.
