Okay, okay, okay, it is my dirty little secret too. I just don't always log in. NS Strong and always the best comedy around.

Why's it so hard to believe? You've found the time to make 1,500 posts in what, 6 months? I presume you work a full-time job. It's October, and this is the largest melting pot of freeski culture on the planet. A lot of these threads get thousands of views in a matter of a day or two. All it takes is one friend of a friend to tell whoever, "your name is in the middle of a shitstorm on NS". There's a lot of pros and industry people that check NS daily, just like you do.

Just seemed a little odd for someone whose presence has become so ubiquitous in such a short period of time to take that shot.
 
I have had a huge problem with deciding whether I liked Tanner or not, mainly because of his attitude but I just realized that I love him.

T Hall did the right thing by calling this shit out....albeit in a very T Hall sorta way. What has our sport come to when top athletes are faking tricks in front of green screens?? What's the point? I just don't get it. It makes you question how many other shots out there have been faked in order to sell shit to impressionable kids. While I was initially on board with the whole Olympic Freeski thing, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

And a word or two on Tanner....our sport wouldn't be what it is without him, and therefore I think he has every right to call out the photo. I'd be pissed off if I broke both my ankles in pioneering a sport, just to have others down the road fake it. That's bullshit. And for those of you that have known T from the early days, he has always been one of the more controversial figures in our sport. Controversy and giving zero fucks is part of the real Tanner. Anything else would be FAKE....like a lot of the top athletes now that will say or do anything to line their pockets and the pockets of their sponsors. Do you seriously think that top professional athletes are guzzling Monster, Red Bull, and Rockstar when everything that modern medicine tells us is that energy drinks are fucking awful for your body and do absolutely nothing to enhance performance??

Money is ruining our sport.
 
I just want to preface this by saying this thread is fucking ridiculous, Tanner Hall's being a tit, and this whole thing is a complete non-issue.

That being said, how do you reconcile your mental image of 'real Tanner giving zero fucks' with the Tanner Hall who's sponsored by Rockstar, one of the energy drinks you're sneering at other athletes for shilling?
 
this thread is dildos. tanners a baddass and anyone going to the olympics is full of shit. i hope one of the kids from the US goes and pulls and andy/ pep x games run and 180's all the jumps.
 
Please, write a 5-paragraph persuasive essay detailing how some Canadian woman posing in front of a greenscreen for some corporate ad that will probably look like a target ad where a bunch of greenscreened EXXTREME SPORT'S athletes will whoosh past the screen, their silhouettes trailed by rainbows and swirls of color or some dumb shit, is ruining the sport for you.

Seriously. I want to know how this is going to negatively affect your personal enjoyment of skiing. If you're thinking about skiing in the larger context and its place in corporate america's grandscheme to brainwash the youth when you drop into a rail line, you're doing it wrong.

The fact that you're tying skiing and the corporate hoops most of the pros have to jump through to make this lifestyle even semi-viable is the problem. Her collecting a paycheck for some silly commercial so that she can travel this winter should be ok with everyone. She's posted it on FB, for fuck's sake. It'd be one thing if they motion capped her in a harness doing a dub 12 and she claimed she did it for real, but some disembodied, stylized .5 second shot in some commercial.....who the fuck cares?

Newsflash: the exploitation of action sports (namely skateboarding and snowboarding) has been happening for what...25 years? It's no different than how any other "cool, edgy" subculture, is co-opted by advertising. Do you think DJ's threw their turntables away because of a McDonalds commercial five years ago that showed some Hollywood waiter, ahem actor pretending to scratch a record?

You're backing Tanner for protecting the soul of the sport, then two sentences later you're scolding people for selling out to energy drink sponsors....roger, that....

Tanner's FB post was funny. Tanner is a cool dude, I like his outspoken shenanigans, and he's one of the best ever to do it and has contributed more to this sport than almost anyone. I don't really have a problem with what he said, and I disagree with him about a lot of things, but hey, that's him.

On the other hand, this hyper-rage and manufactured outrage on the part of so many in this thread is so fucking dumb. All this bullshit about this is the death knell of skiing is so misguided and just makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
 
saw him a long time ago post about how his keyboard was broken. Ski Bo$$ is a chief. plus that shit is stupid in the picture, it was a well deserved call-out.
 
I think it's cool and shit that Tanner's got big balls, say it with me "GO TANNERS BIG BALLS!!" but in all seriousness, the guy was so pro going to the olympics and like "oh the olympics are gonna make this sport so INSPIIRRRRRREED." and then as soon as B-dog got kicked off the canadian team, and Tanner lost redbull, then he got super but hurt and went anti olympics cuz that's what the "cool kids" were doing. i.e. Mike hornbeck, B-dog, B-paul, brady perron etc. and honestly, 3 out of the four of those guys are my favorite skiers but that's because they haven;t changed they're true to themself. When tanner broke both ankles and Pipe/Slopestyle was to hard on his body, he decided to move to powder skiing, with rasta music and fatty blunts. But then when the olympics came around and he was all better he went back to pipe even though people were giving him shit (insert tanner has big balls cheer here) but then, when he realized he was to old , worn out and had partied to hard to still be competitive he went back to "REAL SKIING ON REAL SNOW ON REAL MOUNTAINS WITH REAL ROCKS". And now he's started to do urban which in reality is nollies from the lip onto a rail to the landing, and flips off of manicured jumps off of buildings. He is the ultimate hypocrite but no one will point it out because at one time HE WAS THE SPORT. And I like watching him ski, dont get me wrong, but he's such a hypocrite it's crazy and I think other people need to come to terms with this.

i agree the green screen picture is lame. And i am a tanner hall fan 100%. but when he says something ridiculous and someone reacts he says he is "joking" and that people need to lighten up. but when LOLO is making a funny comment on his video he just blows up and gets offended. I think tanner is hilarious and an awesome skier but he really makes a fool of himself sometimes..ive come to expect it and just laugh.
 
First of all Sean, chill out....someone expressing a personal opinion about the impact of corporate sponsorship on freeskiing doesn't warrant such an enraged response. There was a time when extreme sports were part of the counter culture. Now there just another part of the corporate culture, the very thing they were rebelling against in the first place.

Second of all, it would be a completely different issue if the skiing in the ad was real but shopped or edited. But the skiing itself is fake! If the skiing is fake, what is the point?? It's a misrepresentation of the athlete and the sport.

Finally, what ever happened to skiing for the pure joy and excitement of it? My fear is that now that freeskiing has made its way into the largest athletic venue in the world, the corporate underbelly is only going to continue to grow and corrupt the true nature of the sport.

I think Rob Gaffney says it best in GNAR, "...our sport is becoming too serious."

What would guys like Shane and CR who gave their lives for this sport think if they new people were faking tricks in front of green screens?
 
Does Tanner Hall think he is the ski police or something? Like seriously every time he disagrees with some aspect of the sport he has to go on an all caps bender. Wasn't he freaking out about one footers back in the day or something, I think I've seen Bdog and Henrik both do one footers.

If the dude really wants to be all 'INSPIRED' and positive and shit he needs to stop acting like 12 yr old whiny bitch
