yea this spring has been killer. I've surfed at least 2-4 days a week for the past month+

NH needs to open the fuck up tho

Damn NH is still closed? Most of Maine beaches opened up last week so I've been trying to get out when I can

Thinking about making a change next summer and trying out surfing after wake surfing for the first time. Any recommendations on good places to spend a summer making money and surfing everyday? I'm in montana currently, have connections in NY and Tahoe. Do not want to go back to NY

After spending two years on the East Coast surfing do not come here and try and surf in the summer. You may get a handful of swells that are worth going out in the summer months. The end of June through Mid September were pretty tough this year.

I'm in NJ. We basically don't surf in June. This summer was fun but "fun summer" here means not a whole lot. There's often 1-2 weeks of full on lake atlantic conditions. Fall is much better and it's been fun with the tropical storm thing we've had going. Winter is fun too but it's obv cold as fuck.

Some dudes I surf with work the summer here then go to Nicaragua for our winter. I think the one dude pours concrete or something.

Sand Harbor at Tahoe had some pretty big swell coming in yesterday. Saw prolly 4 people at kings beach. Waves were decent but as chaotic as always. Pretty warm day for it though. Mid 50s. Not bad considering what it takes to make big waves on the lake.

i will never stop being amazed that tahoe ever gets rideable waves, it's such a crazy short fetch. i know it must be because of the mtn weather there but still, wild

yep. theyre mushy and rare of course and iirc it's more of a winter thing but yeah they happen, enough for surfing there to be a thing. surprising right?

Yeah. Ive seen 6 footers before. Kings beach is more consistent it seems and also where ive lived but some other spots seem to get a better seperation of waves. KB can be a but if a shitshow. But if nothing else the novelty alone seems rad.

Also a perfect place to get your snow, surf, and skate day in. Without leaving the basin.

Tahoe is pretty deep. Like 1600 i think. And 20 miles or so long. Also can get some ripping winds. With the right conditions shit gets big. Not the ideal surfing location but its a friggin lake.

Anyone in here river surf? Having lived in Montana for a while I got super into the sport and the scene. If you ever get a chance definitely go surf in the spring, it's magic

Been doing a fair bit around Squamish lately. Not a ton of huge standing waves but it's been loads of fun to practice carves and whatnot. Really stoked to take them back to the ocean once ski seasons over.

Moved to Tofino for the summer. If COVID settles down and Canadian homies are rolling through let me know!

Quads though. And it's funny that people still talk about it like it's something new and unusual. Lots of quads on the women's side it seemed.

But yeah he's insane. He always makes the ones you don't think he's coming out of.

Just booked a 12 day trip to Maui to visit a friend who lives there - insanely stoked

is there anything I can do (besides surf) to be less of a full on kook when I get there? I've "surfed" before a handful of times but I am a total beginner

Risk your life on the hana highway in a rental. Idk if it'll make you less of a kook but it's a rowdy drive I'd do nomatter what.

Also go to the top of haleakala and bring a good camera. Will probably be the best stars you see in your life.

Can't help you on the surfing part lmao

Brad Gerlach has a super good program & solid free content too. Also— prob a good idea to do some spot recon on Surfline (https://www.surfline.com/surf-reports-forecasts-cams/united-states/hawaii/maui/5850862) to get an idea of where folks are paddling out/sitting/taking off.
