Sugarloafers unite! Hope you're just as stoked as we are to get this season under way. As of now (Nov. 13th) we are planning to open on the 22nd. Snowmaking has been going on since yesterday at 3am, so there's a good base forming up.

As for the parks, we're hoping to keep you guys as updated as possible, which should be pretty simple with myself taking the reigns of the account. We just posted an update to the terrain park blog, featuring a video, some photos, and a Q&A with our head of Terrain Parks, Mr. Jake Charles. Check it out!

Feel free to ask questions and we'll keep you up to date will all that's happening up here. Think snow!

Here's a photo of the new 6'x6' wall ride and 20' down tube with kink that Jake built the other week. As you can see in the background, all the other features saw a fresh coat of paint as well as some smoothing. Really stoked to get them set up.

Took a drive up there today to look at snowmaking, looking very white and beautiful! Couldn't be more excited to start this season

Oh yes it's quite a beautiful sight to see. Been reallllllly chilly too so the snow quality is probably great

Just a couple days till the loaf gets going, anyone going to be there for opening Friday?!

Yes. Jake was up there this morning pushing snow around, what he told me is that whatever gets set up depends on how much snow he has to work with. It will be in the normal hike-to spot above the SuperQuad.

Everything is looking good for tomorrow, the snow skied pretty well this morning. Look forward to seeing people this weekend!

Jake just swung by my office and said he managed to get two pads set up. Hoping to get two flat features and two down features on them sometime this afternoon. Will keep ya posted

I sm thinking about heading up for the weekend. Keep us posted on the setup. Will anyone be headed up from Bangor this season?

I bet you could catch a ride with a ton of people heading that way from UMO! I have a few buddies always coming up for the weekends.

As for the setup, expect 3 flat features and a down rail of sorts. I'll post pics asap tomorrow

Obviously lol sundayriver gets 5X the bussiness sloaf gets simply because of accesibilty but i'd take a day at loaf over a day at sunday (when both are 100% open) any day

HAHAHA so you sold more tickets to 6 yr olds, and 60 yr olds.Sunday river is where you bring grandapa and the kids and spend 2k in a weekend.

Sugarloaf is where you go to ski. Huck cliffs. Ride trees. SLAY backcountry!

If we all had to choose one mountain between Someday bigger and SLOAF.

Im sure it would be astoundingly in the latters favorite

That doesn't mean it's better at all. I don't rate my favorite ski areas based on how financially successful they are.

We have backcountry you just need to know where to go. You can go off the backside and get a ride at the airport back to the river. There is also in my opinion less lift lines at the river and if there is a line at the busy areas you can go to white cap guaranteed there won't be lines and yo have everything there to ski that you would want to ski. Also the loaf goes down on wind way too often with me getting up there and wasting money on gas when the forecast doesn't even call for wind. More than half the times I went to the loaf they were down due to wind. I'm also highly displeased with some of the practices of certain departments at the loaf. That's something I can't go into more than that though.

Personal opinion: sure you can "know where to go" to get to stuff at the river, but the point is that it takes effort. It's too spread out, and it's not easy to shoot over to a nice steep gladed section and then back to the park without taking at least 1 unnecessary chairlift ride and some serious traversing.

Seriously, I love how Burnt Mtn is just right there for easy backcountry access. Don't even have to get a ride back to base. The wind thing is usually only a problem on lifts like King Pine and Timberline, the main lifts like the Superquad, Whiffletree, Double Runner, Spillway, etc. are usually open I find. In the end, they're both great ski areas and best ski area is a matter of personal opinion.

Just a heads up, the jibs were pulled yesterday and will be put back in friday due to the thaw/freeze. Don't worry, this will let them blow in the park some more (more snow = cooler stuff)

anyone know of some places close to sugarloaf that have cheap accommodation? Maybe some deals for college students?

anyone know if theres a possibility of stomping grounds by next weekend? They should be able to blow all week and the hiking park is getting old.

indeed, its actually pretty bad, with available resources, the park could have been so much better without costing a dime more. Stomping Grounds will be on point once its open though.

Stomping grounds will see snowmaking soon, looks like temps will warm up for the next few days, then drop back down. We've got guns going on Gondi and Hayburner now (gauge is supposed to be on but technical difficulties). I believe Stomping is next on that list after those trails get enough on them

For now, Jake added a snowmaking tube to the middle rail pad.

corrugated, flat bar, flat box, then barrel bonk and flat round rail, then round snowmaking tube on ground and trap box, then downish round rail, then 3 jump line and a butter pad

Pretty small first ones probably like 15 second 20ish third maybe 25.. But I'm terrible at guessing jump sizes haha

I had a feeling the picture made them look larger butnon the less i have been looking for good medium size jumps as the ones in t72 are to large for my taste.

today was fun, but maintenance wasn't there.. would have liked to see park crew fix some lips, they were pretty bad today and i didnt see anyone fixing stuff

Considering making the drive up from Bethel if the conditions at Loaf are any better than SR. How's the weather been? Rain? If its snowing up there I'd like to come check it out and ski stomping grounds if its pretty good.

Freezing rain most of the night/day today, heard the skiing wasnt awful today but the quad was and will likely be on icing hold again tomorrow.

I'll be up there this Saturday and Sunday, I usually lap alone so if you want to join me give me a shout. I'll be wearing a yellow coat with black pants.

Looking for something mildly dangerous to do so i am hiking the snow fields when i get back to maine in about 3 weeks ( if they arent already open)
