Stupidest reason you've been pulled over for

Tonight was the first time I got pulled over and because a guy that had the right of way at a stop sign waved me through. I took my turn and thought nothing of it and then got pulled over right after. Cop came over and told me to wait my turn then told me I'm free to go.

What are your stories NS?

I pulled over once because I was really high and though I was being stopped. Found out that the cop on the side of the road had his lights on for the person he pulled over.

Pretty standard mistake.

driving with no shirt and an open beer in my hand. I took off the shirt to divert attention from the beer

driving a van that didn't like to go over about 100 in a section of highway at night in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Saskatchewan, the only other person I've seen on the road in a while approaches from behind and starts tailgating me with his highbeams on. I continue on at my leisurely 100 (limit is 100) and getting a bit pissed he isn't passing. Passing lane comes up and I stick to right lane, he has to pass me now, but nope he stays right behind me in right lane. I pull over to the side to let him pass and he pulls over behind me so I start to freak out a bit thinking it's some redneck crazy and was just about to gun it when he puts the light on, it was a cop. Then he comes and asks me 'why did you pull over?'. I almost lost it on him but politely told him because some dick was tailgating me with his highbeams on the past few km. that would be the dumbest reason

The nerve! I LOLd

My buddy and I were at a friends house, I am in a stock jetta, he had a S10 ZR-2 which he had just got new exhaust on. He was revving the shit out of it(so hard) and then I had to go. Made it two turns in a neighborhood and get pulled over. Cop starts berating me for revving my motor in a neighborhood and I try to explain it wasn't me, this is a Jetta. Get a ticket for no insurance since I had gotten my license a couple weeks prior and hadn't received the card. Called my mom, she was 5 minutes away and had the card. Cop said he wouldn't wait and still gave me the ticket. Biggest waste of time.

ive been pulled over once. it was late at night and this white van would not let me get over to the right lane so i could hit my turn. id slow down hed slow down, id speed up hed speed up this wen for like 1.5 miles. finally i just slammed on my brakes and got over just in time then i see this care come flying in behind me and he lights me up. its a cop out of his jurisdiction and he thought i was drunk because i couldnt keep a constant speed.... i had about 7 different insurance cards and handed him an expired one on accident so i got a prove it ticket for that and he let me go

A cop pulled us over for going over the double yellow lines. But, we went out of our lane to pass the cop because he had someone pulled over. Fuck him he just wanted to search a car full of teenagers. He didn't find shit either

you let him search your car?

On my way back from the local lake spot I got pulled over for not wearing a shirt, I had a bathing suit on, then also got ticketed for driving without shoes on.

a license plate light was out....supposedly. he passed me as I was pulling in to a storage facility. I may or may not have been dropping off 30 pounds of that sweet in a locker. Got pulled over leaving the place. Scared as fuck even though the car was now clean, but played it cool, had a good story, etc. Was on my way in no time. No tickets, no search , etc.

Once pulled into a high school late at night to turn around and go the other way down the road. But I guess the school was having some kind of construction being done, so cops were there 24/7. The cop put his lights on and pulled me over because I guess he thought I was trying to trespass. I told him I was just turning around and he let me go.

I'll answer since I was present for the encounter. It was 8 years ago when we were 17 and didn't know our asses from our elbow.

People like to think they will stand up to a cop but when the time comes, however, its either not worth it or they are too intimidating. Not afraid to be honest about that. I would like to think in the future though, I'd stand up for my right...to partaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I got pulled over by a lady cop once. She told me that my front right taillight was out. When she said it I laughed a little bit. I honestly thought she was playing with me.

When she asked what's so funny. I realized it wasn't a joke... I did my best to not be an asshole, but I had to know, which is it? My taillight or my headlight?

Perplexed, the officers first reaction was to avoid the question and asked me if I had been drinking (I was 16 and had never tasted beer in my life) Apparently she detected a the smell of beer in the car.

Officer friendly calls for back up. When the backup arrives, an older officer approaches my car without officer friendly. He asked why she pulled me over and I explained the situation. He has a moment of silent chuckles to himself and then burst out into the kind of laugh that makes your side hurt. He takes a look at my taillights, both are working, looks at my headlights and one is out.

"Son, your front left HEADLIGHT is out. You should get that fixed... Now get on your way. I think we've kept you long enough this evening."

My friends and I laughed a little... got out of our car and walked into the ice cream shop.

yup.. at the time we were way too young to properly argue our rights. At one point he has us 4 facing his car and when we turned around he yelled at us keep staring at his car. It was some weird shit man. Nowadays I would never let that happen.

couple months ago a cop snaked me at a dunkins getting a coffee so I laid on my horn and continued to follow him through the drive through, the second i got my coffee I got pulled over

Got pulled over a bunch when I moved into a small town and was living on a street known for a lot of drug trafficking(cheapest rent). I had out of state plates and thus I became a suspect for trafficking heroin. Got pulled over once a week for a month to be "checked up on". A couple of months later I visited my family in another state and my brother needed to borrow my car. He ended up getting pulled over with the officer expecting to find me and found my brother. Apparently the local police office to the town I moved to told the police in my home town to look for me and thus pulled my brother over. The officer said that they were looking for me and I was suspected for trafficking. The officer knew who my brother was and all of the sudden I stopped getting shit from the police from the town I moved to.

haha well I started video taping him and he didn't like that, I was saying how he can't pull me over for treating him like any other person and to respect everyone else that had been waiting in line. He continued to say that he didn't pull me over for that and that my license plate wasn't clearly legible because of snow, which was bullshit. He did a background check and let me off, fucking pigs

god fucking dammit. And then some people may wonder why some people hate cops. They let personal feelings get involved and get away with this shit.

Im 20, drive an Mitsubishi evo x with an exhaust and some other goodies. SO I guess thats automatically a reason to get followed or something? (its not that loud)

Well I was driving down I-80 in NJ to pick up some wheels with my buddy. Speed limit is 65 mph so I was in the middle lane in traffic doing about that. Well It was the last weekend of December and NJ State Police love to rack up tickets during holiday season. (saw at least 15 cars pulled over in an hour of driving) Anyway, I get back to driving down with the flow of traffic. I see a cop in the shoulder with another car pulled over. This traffic stop must have finished and the car started pulling away.

I looked at my buddy and said I guarantee this cop pulls me over. So I tried to drive normally, get in the right lane and go about 65 still. The cop is about a half mile back in the fast lane. I see him speeding through traffic etc. Finally he catches up and pulls to the middle lane to match my speed. (Typical you know you're getting pulled over but they want you to wait?) So after about a mile I was behind a truck and we were both going 60mph. NJSP is still hot on my tail trying to get my plate or whatever cops like to do behind you.

So the truck pulls off an exit and i maintain the speed I was going. Now Mr. Protecting and Serving gets in my lane and puts his lights on. I pull over put the keys on the dash, keep my hands on the wheel etc. So he comes to the window and goes "The reason I am stopping you today is #1 You're going way to slow bro. #2 The loud muffler but I had a car like this so I don't really care." I asked "60 in a 65 is considered too slow?" He just blew me off and asked paperwork. Give him my PBA card and all that shit.

So I end up getting a written warning for loud exhaust. Just such stereotypical profiling of teenagers and trying to create an investigation out of nothing.

Well I was driving around the mall after it closed with this one chick and I was about to pull into a parking lot but a random cop appeared pulled me over told me I was trespassing and I had to leave, effectively cockblocking. Fuck the police

Got pulled over for my middle taillight being out which you don't legally need to have plus it's been out for the past 10 years. He saw an empty baggie in the back of my car and asked to see it. It had like Cheerios or something in it before but he smelled it for like a minute then gave it back and sent me on my way.

My rearview mirrow fell off and clocked me in the head and I swerved all over the place...a cop was right behind me and pulled me over. He laughed his ass off when I showed him what went down.

Recently got a ticket in upstate NY for going to fast throug a stop sign and not having a blinker on. I guess it was my fault but it was such BS.

1:30 Am literally not a soul on the road on upstate on route 22 in NY if anyone has any idea where that is going to VT. Came to a T intersection on the road and slowed down and rolled through the stop sign. Pulled over about a minute later which was such BS. Cop thought I was drunk and gave me all sorts of drunk tests. I didn't really do anything wrong but he gave me 2 individual tickets for blinker / stop sign which would have been like 5 points on my license so I had to fight it in court and pay $100 fine and drive 4 hours. Fuck upstate cops

No front license plate, even though I had one tucked to the side. He literally stands knees to my hood and goes "durrr I don't see it"

I tell him to take 2 steps back and he says "oh haha wow you got me!" -___-

We then talk about my car and how never saabs are shit.

Got pulled over on my 18th birthday for 1 of 2 license plate lights out, impound car, plant evidence in my dad's car, etc etc

inb4 people call bullshit

Once I got pulled over for having a headlight out, when if fact I did not have a headlight out.

When the officer told me I had a headlight out I asked if I could get out the car and look. He said no, so I shut off the car and waited. He came back with a written warning and said I could now come out to look at my headlights. So I got out and sure enough they were both working perfect as ever..

I think HID's attract more police attention

NY troopers are the worst everywhere outside the metro areas. It's a huge money grab. Most tickets are just pay a fine and go (better than losing your license but still bullshit)

In bc we have to display a magnetic green n on our back bumper for our first two years of driving. My cars bumper is plastic, so I had it tied below the bumper, and a cop pulled me over for it saying it had to be on my bumper, I explained why that wouldn't work, then in typical cop fashion changed his story to it not being visible down there, if it wasn't visible how did you know I had it down there, got off with a warning

I got pulled over for honking. Cop looked pissed and and told me how he hated honking. I just responded that I was honking at another driver and wanted the other driver to hear me. The cop went on to lecture me about how he wasn't the only person that hates honking and how I better not honk in a big city or risk getting shot. After his lecture he just walked back to his car and drove away. He never accused me of any sort of violation or anything.

Definitely do not have to signal in single lane roundabouts.

Is there actually a law for that in your state?

most of these sound like really routine police stops, i mean outside of wasting like 5-10 minutes of your time, what's so bad about getting pulled over? cops pull me over all the time for "inspections", it's no big deal lol

I've only been pulled over for normal things but two of my friends got tickets for literally the dumbest thing ever.

First one was really late one night in a super gnarly storm, like 8 inches of snow on the ground and pretty windy. My buddy is driving his car that really sucks in the snow going extremely slow. He gets to a stop sign on a hill and just starts sliding. He stops as much as he could and then just goes through the stop sign. Barely a rolling stop at all and giving the circumstances, impressive he even got that close. The cop pulls him over and he gets a ticket for running a stop sign.

Next. My other friend was cruising along and comes to a yellow light. She EASILY could have made it through no problem but decided to be safe and stop. She's going pretty fast and has to stop way fast and ends up going about 3 feet past the line. She reverses, waits for the light to change, and goes through. Next thing she knows she gets pulled over and a ticket for running a stop sign. So stupid.

cop: "license and registration"

cop: "so what are you doing out driving at this hour"

me: "officer, I'm not sure that's your business"

cop: "whoa, no need to get upset, i'm just curious since it's 4am"

me: "well, we're right off the interstate, where people are always driving, so I could be traveling, or, you know, I could be commuting to work since people sometimes work at 4am, or I could be driving to campus since it's finals week and the library is open till 4am, or I could be...

cop: "okay okay okay.."

me: "so are any of those reasons to pull me over right now? because you still have yet to give me an adequate reason"

cop: "i'll be right back"

*goes to his car and checks my shit. comes back and returns my license/reg*

cop: "okay. have a nice day"

....fucking weirdo.

My mother did this, except it was marked cop car. When she got pulled over she said she didn't notice him

I wheeleid past a ghost car on my street bike, (didn't notice it was a ghost car) and proceeded to continue on the same road at 200km an hour, it's a 60 zone. Didn't notice the ghost car was chasing me. Stopped at a set of lights, marked car parks in the intersection perpendicular to me, then the ghost car pulls up behind me. I realize at this point I am completely fucked

Cops pulls me over in VT, I am an NH resident...

Cop: "License, registration, and proof of insurance"

Me: "Here's my license and registration, I don't have insurance because I live in NH and it is not required"

Cop: "Well it is required in VT. And it's also illegal to have air freshners hanging from your rear view mirror"

Me: (takes down air freshener) "Sorry officer I had no idea (who the fuck would?)"

Then I get the whole ordeal about how he smeels alcohol on me and my friends, asked to step out of the vehicle, and made to take a breathalizer (which I pass). Then Im asked to find someone else to drive me home, which I refuse, and am sent back to my car where I wait for over 30 minutes. Finally...

Cop: "Ok so I pulled you over for an obstructed license plate (clear cover with SLIGHT dirt on it) and the air freshener".

(Hands me $500 in tickets)

Cop: "So sorry to let you leave early (the fucking nerve on this guy) but I have another call."

Me: "Thank you sir. May I get your name?"

(Gives name. I shake his hand)

(Guy pieces it).

Worst experience I've ever had with a cop and worst reason to ever be pulled over. I have the story posted in some other thread floating around here.

Ah let's see.. Because it was 2 am and we were driving around? No other reason, nuts cops in my hometown.

Of course we were underage and had a trunk full of liquor (bitchy shit like baileys ha) for a small get together, but hell if he knew that.

Got pulled over on MN once. Was doing 70 on a 55 because I was heading to a job site early in the AM (2.5 hour drive). Saw the charger tail lights in front of me and figured it was a good chance it was a cop. He pulled over on the shoulder so I slammed the brakes figuring he would try to clock me because I was gaining on him pretty fast. Pulls me over and accuses me of having a radar detector (which I'm pretty sure is legal anyways) and I'm like no dude this is a work truck. Asks me a whole bunch of questions treating me all suspicious like I'm running drugs or something... like its actually suspicious that I'm in the county I grew up in. Eventually lets me go because he has no real evidence I was ever speeding. It really pissed me off though he was super shady about the whole thing. "Why are you driving a truck with Montana plates, where's your MN ID?" "Uhhhhhhh I LIVE IN MONTANA."

Very legal unless you happen to pass through Virginia or Washington DC (or Canada?),

http://www.rdforum.org/wiki/index.php?title=RDF_Geographical_Survey

Doesn't mean they won't treat you differently for having it. However I paid my dues with one sitting on my windshield, but I was also going 30 over and he still knocked it down by 10 mph on the ticket. Didn't even mention the dar.

I've only been pulled over one time and I got let off with a warning, the funny thing was that I pulled into a lot where there was essentially a late night "car show" with a bunch of swaggots revving their Chevy cruises. After the cop let me go he went right over and talked to them which I got a good chuckle out of.
