Soccer Players?

This is true.

Played center mid from 1st to 7th grade, then center back or out mid in 8th grade.

Stopped playing in 9th, but are gonna play again next season because me and my friends are making a new club team. Next season will count as freshman year of college in america.

Also play football in the US during the summer. You live in New Hampshire, you are a white suburbanite who probably dresses in 6xl LRG but can barely ski.

Nice generalization and your right. But the funny thing is i bet if you came down into our white little neighbor hood and tried to play our girls soccer team you would get your ass handed to you

as opposed to what? Canada?

compared with europe, the us sucks. Compared with asia, they'd be good. In south america, they'd be decent. In north america though, they are the best.

Mexico is part of North America. So they're second best in North America. They'd suck in South America..and they'd get raped in Asia.

i just started playing this year, doing some rec leagues and plan on playing intramural in college

i play defense, my two teams are Inter Milan and Stoke City

lately the us has been better than mexico, and has been ranked higher by fifa. Over history, mexico has been better, but that's shifted in the last 10 years.

Only brazil and argentina are ranked above the US from south america, and the us would be be able to take on most of the other teams fairly well. And no Asian team is ranked above the US.

The United States isn't nearly as bad as most people think. They still aren't quite a major world power, but not a terrible little team.

If by we you mean canada... Really? Cause last time i checked the US won it in 07 05 and 02 and the last time canada won it was 2000...

God, i hate football, the real football that is (not american football), you need to play a proper sport with no pads or defensive shit like good ol' Ruggers!
Tbh, american football is also quite fun

Dribbling a ball past defenders is less difficult than outrunning 12 guys that want to rip your head off. As in every sport there are positions that require less, or more skill. Skill positions in football are exponentially more difficult. Take a flanker for example, they need to have insane speed and the ability to catch a ball 45 yards downfield while being covered by a cornerback. What does a striker have to do? kick the fucking ball into the net.

Also, it sort of shows how little you know about the sport when you accuse players of being fat. Sure they may carry a bit of lard around their mid-section, but they are also some of the strongest athletes in the world. Ndamukong Suh can bench 470 without a shirt, that's the same level of strength as powerlifters. You wouldn't call a powerlifter fat, because they have a SHITLOAD of muscle to back it up. Same goes for lineman. Most skill positions I.E. CB, WR, HB are all fairly trim and generally incredibly healthy. They carry as little weight as possible so they can move as fast as possible. I don't respect soccer players because they don't possess a very large skill set. They can run sorta fast, and kick a ball around. They're not strong in the least, and generally have a low pain tolerance. I don't like non-contact sports to begin with, but when you put in wimpy players taking dives...it becomes pathetic.

Bruce-Campbell.JPG

That's Bruce Campbell. He has almost no fat, and is one of the most athletic and gifted players I have ever seen. He's also a lineman.

god damnit, who cares what sport is better.. both are fun to play and watch, so just everyone shut up

I was gonna argue with the football post above but forget it.

Soccer is fun, I should be playing but my acl=repaired through surgery so I'll be on crutches for the entire season. I should be playing left defense tomorrow, obviously i'm not, and the person taking my place isn't as good. It's annoying because I know I'd be more helpful, but he normally doesn't play defense so whatever. Another kid takes that spot too, he's slower and not as aggressive as me, but much bigger. Defense is so fun though, taking the ball from somebody who thought they were gonna school you with fancy dribbling is such a good feeling.

Dude.... C'mon really?? there are 11 players on a football field at once. If youre defending a sport so fiercely at least read a wikipedia article on it or something.

Your statement about knowing things about sports before judging them is absolutely correct yet you obviously dont know very much about soccer and continue to hate on it. If i were to say all football players are trying to do is get a fucking ball into the endzone, that would be almost as ignorant as saying all soccer players are trying to do is put the ball in the net. Its true that those are the goals of each sport but in both sports there are strategies involved too.

I play Canadian football. In Canadian football there are 12 players on the field, as well as 3 downs.

Soccer doesn't have the strategy that Football does, and for that it is an inferior sport. The athletes are not as gifted, strength wise or speed wise, another reason why it is not as good of a sport. It's also incredibly boring.

Im sorry but thats just false. I love the sport of football, i'm a die hard patriots fan but i also love the game of soccer. There is a lot of strategy involved in playing both of those games, you just don't play or respect the game of soccer so its just not obvious to you so you dont see it.

In regards to speed, the fastest soccer players are just as fast as the fastest football players and the average speed amongst soccer players is probably much higher than that of football.

Just cause you need a different body type to play soccer doesnt mean soccer players are any less athletic. Soccer is not a sport that is particularly welcoming to 350lb dudes no matter how strong they are and how little fat they actually have on their body.

Last but not least the sport is only boring to you because you obviously dont respect the game.

are you kiddingme. in football they stop play every five seconds and have a coach yell at them plays. in soccer you have to think on your feet and come up with your own strategy based whos defending you and whos open. Fianlly ANYONE can catch a ball, run around, tackle, ect. In soccer you either have foot skills or you dont and I garuntee that thoguh soccer players dont have the strongest upper body because it isn't a full contact sport they do have strong if not stronger legs then almost all football players

I agree with you mostly dude but youre kinda being almost as ignorant as him, a football players ability to catch, run, tackle, break tackles, block etc is just as practiced and difficult to perfect as a soccer players shot or footskills.

Soccer is definitely more of a mental game because of what you described though. A football player memorizes plays and usually has only a few jobs to do on the field whereas a soccer player has to think on their feet and improvise.

Football, you need to know what to do when they have 2 flankers out, or 3, or even on the rare occasion 4. Even though you practice it, you still have to run through it in your head on your own 1000 times before you'll remember it. Remembering whether to stay at home during a 32 dive but to blitz during a 31 is pretty damn difficult.
Not everyone can catch a ball, even people at the professional level can sometimes not catch a ball. It's called an incomplete pass and it happens 75 percent of the time. Catching a ball is a lot harder than you'd think when you have someone else trying to stop you from catching it.

Soccer players don't have the strongest upper bodies..or the strongest lower bodies. Soccer players really are just not that strong. My uncle played Defensive End for the University of Kentucky in the late 80s. He saw lineman do 700 lb squats with their hamstrings touching their calves. That sort of power just isn't possible with a soccer player..you just do too much running. Soccer players are built like marathon runners, skinny with not very much muscle mass so they can run for long distances without tiring. Football players are built like sprinters, with large amounts of muscle above and below to allow them to go as fast as possible, and hit as hard as possible.
I played Soccer as a fullback right up until Football started in the 6th grade. I played the sport, I just don't respect it..there's not much to it.

As i said before just cause there arent 350lb dudes who can lift a shitload on the soccer field doesnt mean theyre any less athletic. You are pretty much correct with the generalizations regarding the body types of the two different sports although soccer players really arent that skinny and can usually sprint jsut as fast as football players however neither of those two are any less athletic than the other one.

And the fact that you played in some shitty indoor gym soccer league in elementary school doesnt mean you know anything about the game at all.

I played football in seventh grade and as a freshman. It wasn't very hard. Does that give me the qualification to make judgements about football at every level?

Have you ever seen a soccer game in your life? You really think soccer players "can run sorta fast"? I bet any soccer player playing now could toast most football players. Also soccer players may not have huge upper bodies, but most have massive legs. I would love to see a football player try to take on a few defenders and put the ball in the back of the net. I guarantee they would fail. Please go make a new thread if you are going to say how sick football is and just rip on soccer. I bet you won't though since most football players are idiots who get in trouble with the law because they think they are above everyone else. And yes I understand football players are not fat, but do you understand how much skill it takes to play soccer?

Soccer players I have seen(senior team, university level) are generally really skinny. My brother's room mate plays for the University of McMaster soccer team..and is like 6'2" and 165 lbs. He's a goddamn twig, and he's slow..but he runs like 40 miles a week. I'd say strength plays a pretty big role in athleticism, for any sport. You're going to play better if you're stronger..regardless of what sport it is, even curling.

I always laugh at how ridiculous it is to call any sport "easy". it makes absolutely no sense because it's just as "easy" for your opponent as it is for you. It's no easier to win... if you're trying to say it's easier to score then that would make soccer among the most difficult sports (cuz of the incredibly low scoring) and basketball pretty much the easiest popular sport. it would also mean football's "easier" than soccer.

Have you ever seen any professional soccer players? Their quads are massive. And strength does not equal athleticism. You are basically saying marathon runners are not athletic. Please go buy a cheap soccer ball and try to score from 30+ yards out upper 90, i doubt you will even come close. Please stop hating on a sport you know absolutely nothing about.

Just cause football requires players to be able to lift more still doesnt mean theyre more athletic. Yes a good amount of soccer players are skinny but ive also seen quite a few lanky ass wide recievers, kickers, punters, and corner backs in my day too.

Given a question of who is more athletic a huge ass lineman or a typical soccer player, im pretty sure most people would say the soccer player.

And on a side note, if a soccer player wanted to become a football player, they could probably get drafted as a kicker with about a year of practice. If any football player tried to get drafted as a soccer player... absolutely not.

After reading through the absolutely staggering ammounts of ignorance being posted in this thread I couldn't hold back posting some kind of defense for the game of soccer. I do not hate football. I actually am a huge football fan as well and fully respect the skill and athleticism it takes to play at a competitive level. With that said, I play soccer at a compitetive level year round and do not understand where you (ButtonGwinnet) can come up with the idea that soccer does not require more skill than football. In order to play football effectively, lets say as a receiver, you have to be able to beat the cornerback on the run, catch the ball, and hopefully evade a few more defensive backs. In order to play soccer effectively, let's say as a striker, you have to be able to settle a round ball that is played to you often at high speeds and not directly to you, either pass that ball to another team mate who is often at a full sprint or turn with that ball and try to beat a defender or two or even three, and try to score all using your FEET. We, as a species were designed to use our hands to perform tasks, and our feet were meant to carry us and provide a base for us to move. In soccer, you have to master the ability to use your feet as almost a second set of hands, with which you do things that most people cannot do with their hands. That is all I have to say, I really don't want an arguement out of this I just had to speak my mind.

EXACTLY I have been trying to get this point across for a while. You put it into a very elegant well written paragraph and for that, I thank you.

But it is possible with steriods. Half the reason that football players are so strong is because they take steriods. at least here in the U.S. it is a proven fact. There code for drug use is pathetic and many, many players get away with it. Probably that lineman your uncle saw too.
