SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

This is a bug with the feature that occurs if you don't let go of jump before entering the air. Loading up spins is a game mechanic that encourages you to plan ahead and stops players for performing massive spins of small jumps. If you're hitting a rail, don't feel the need to wind up so much before the lip (unless you're going for a 630+), simply pop just before you reach the jump.

A lot of the times thats not enough though. I think it would really help out the fluidity of the game if you allowed people to turn during wind ups somehow. Not sure how you would implement it though. I have to admit, I've been on break from school for thanksgiving and I've given this game another chance. The wind up mechanic is cool. I've definitely gotten back into this game. But it could be better. Another feature I would suggest is make the player spot his landings. A lot of the times as I'm finishing a trick the character looks up hill or in the wrong direction which just looks strange. This becomes a problem in first person mode too because its becomes very hard to ACTUALLY spot your landing. As far as physics goes, I think turning still needs to be more agile to an extent. I find that if I want to make a hard turn, the character often reverts and ends up going switch when I dont want it to. Also work on keeping the character upright somehow. On steep slops when standing sideways, the character follows the slope. In real life, I would have my downhill leg straight and my uphill bent with my body still oriented in the direction of gravity. It just looks awkward and unrealistic the way it is now. Otherwise this game is the best there is as far as ski games go, but it could be better! Keep it up.

They did have it so when you wind up you turn that direction, was more annoying than it currently is. You can still do carved tricks, just don't wind up and jump at the last second and you can easily still pull 7's. The issue though is that to make a nice looking carved trick you can't be pressing forward so you will knuckle every jump from not having enough speed (this needs to be fixed). I don't like having to tuck in between every feature and it shouldn't be required.

As far as game mechanics go, you guys have come a long way, but rails and carving still need a lot of work, also please add pole plants. I'm not trying to discourage, but rather motivate you to make the game you want to make. I still personally prefer the mechanics of ssx on tour over snow. Still feels too clunky if you know what I mean.

Can I propose smaller maps for online, more people, more fun, higher settings, or at least clean up/ optimize your code.

So I recently got a new PC and GPU and I just installed SNOW on it during my break. It runs sooo much smoother now and I'm playing on high. I'm thinking about streaming it on Twitch possibly tonight or tomorrow

Sadly I doubt many people will watch, I don't think too many people play snow.

I just started playing snow with a controller after logging 120 hours with a keyboard. It's so hard to re-learn.

i have the game on my laptop but every time try to play it goes into night mode so i cant see anything. can i get some help to fix this. Can anyone post a trick list as well thanks

I've never even done twitch before so I wouldn't be doing it to get a million views. I figured I would just post the link up here and if people want to watch they can to see how the game looks and runs on a "budget PC". Either way I'll still be playing it haha.

I'm playing with a keyboard right now, I'm used to the WSAD controls from other games but I started with a controller for this game on my other PC that can barely run it and I think I do prefer a controller over the keyboard.

Okay maybe I am just not seeing it, but how do I actually earn credits without paying for them? I spent all the ones that are given to you at the start, but I would have thought getting Gold in events and stuff would award them. So far it looks like the only way to earn credits is to actually pay money for them? Not a fan of that if this is the case

Probably not soon but I can tell you this game is great with a controller. Literally 10x better than using a keyboard, you won't be disappointed.

Getting Gold Medal in an event will unlock specific items (you can see what you unlock through the preview screen). Right now there is no way to earn credits, but we will be adding credits to the leveling progression in the Open Beta. You won't have an unlimited supply of credits, but you'll be able to get a whole bunch by playing. In the end, we need to keep the game alive, so purchasing credits makes sure we can keep making more stuff :)

Hope that makes sense!

Taking previously free content and now charging people for it is not updating, improving, or introducing new features. Don't try to act like the "premium events" weren't shit that people could have booted up the game a couple weeks ago and played for free. Those weren't "added."

A lot of us bought this game when it was overpriced and barely playable in really really really early stages, and you guys have repaid us by now making us pay for more and more shit that was earlier, just part of the game.

I really want to continue to support this game and it's development, but come on man, we shouldn't have to pay for this new stuff, it should just be part of the game that we originally bought.

Besides the clothing/gear, they'be done nothing but add more content. There are way more maps than there were at launch, more parks, and sialia is bigger than ever

I'm not trying to say they haven't added more content, but the game isn't in it's completed "free-to-play" stage yet, so why are they adding content that you have to pay to play? I could totally see myself paying to unlock certain events if I hadn't already paid for a game.

The game has come a long ways, and you're right, there's so much shit to play, so many mountains, so many levels. You can still play the maps like the B&E invitational, but I really don't think events should cost real money. And yes, it is real money, because at this point they haven't implemented any sort of credit earning system through playing the game.

For me, I might just take a hiatus from the game until there is a way for me to unlock all the content of the game without having to dish out more money, cause straight up, I already paid for a game. I bought the game a few days after it became available on Steam.

In my defense, I don't recall them EVER telling people that the people who bought the game for early access would end up having to pay even more money for the content that would come in the free-to-play system. In fact, they made it seem like buying the game early and paying the money now would mean that you would have access to pretty much everything down the line. I'm talking about the really early days, not what they have said anytime recently.

Shit, events cost credits to participate in? That's a major bummer. I mostly just ride around in single player mode. I hadn't even tried events yet. I bought the game a few days after it came out as well, I feel like overall the game has come a long ways. I've managed to log 120 hours having fun playing snow, so I'm pretty happy. Playing snow today on a controller vs back then on the keyboard, it's much better.

I'm going to reserve judgement about the system they have going for buying credits until its "finished". Since they're not charging for the game anymore they have to make money somehow, can't knock em for that. I would almost say paying for it when it first went up on steam was to have access to it for the 1.5 years (I think) before it went into public Beta.

I'm still rocking it on the keyboard, I may have to give it a shot on a controller because that may just completely make the game for me.

Eh that's true. I'd say whoever wants to pay, more power to them because that will hopefully contribute to a better game in the end, but I guess I'm just not into it.

I'm the same way, I never really buy anything in games with micro transactions. If you try the controller it does take a while to get used to.

I can feel what people are saying with the pay to play stuff, I Just assumed that we'd keep all of the earlier gear that we kept getting given when the first game came out so it is kind of a shock to have it all taken away. At the same time I can see that it was there for testing purposes so to lock features from the start would mean that they got less feed back. I guess it is that whole marketing thing of it is better to start at a price high then drop it than to start low and raise it as the latter pisses more people off.

To the SNOW team, obviously you are making money off the in game brands (if you aren't wtf are you doing?), why not add more branded content like a branded park, branded features, or even just straight up billboards (they had that shit in SSX and no one cared to complain). I feel that adding branded features or even zones would help pay for the development and make people less upset about paying a lesser fee for them.

Going to try reply to a few of your comments at once, so forgive me if it's a bit scattered.

The Paid/Premium Events that are currently available have never been previously “free” content. The only 3 Paid Events are totally new and have entirely new items as rewards. JOI has the official jacket, B&E has a camo bucket hat and 9 Knights has their official gloves. There are roughly 20 free events currently and about 10 of them have item rewards, so you can get an entirely new set of clothing for free. We will continue adding new events to the game, but most of them will be Premium.

When you joined the Early Access, you didn’t purchase a complete game, but supported a game in development - this doesn’t mean we can simply give you everything we make for free. Instead, you received an exclusive set of clothing (Founders Set), exclusive helmet/skis (Gold/Silver/Bronze) and a Free Event. On top of that, you got Sean Pettit’s Red Bull helmet for joining the Closed Beta along with at least 300 credits. All together this is worth probably 10x more than what you paid to join the Early Access.

We have always said the game will be free-to-play and have been as clear as possible with what you would receive for supporting the game so early on. Unfortunately, we can’t give everything away for free. That being said, unlike many other free-to-play games, new levels/mountains have always been free. We have Paid Events to provide the competitive members of the game a chance to prove themselves, but even then you get a free item for getting gold medal, which makes the value of Events even higher.

I can’t go into too much detail about our partnerships with the brands, but I can say that they don’t pay us upfront. We didn't want that. In fact it’s the other way around. Support your favorite brand/event in the game and they get a cut too!

At the end of the day, we don’t expect 100% of users to spend money in the game, but we have to make some content premium/paid or we’ll never make any money and won’t be able to afford developing more content for the game. We’re doing our best to offer as much of the game for free and allow players who are dedicated to earn a bunch of paid content, but again it comes down to a balance of what we can make a business out of.

We haven't fully implemented all of our planned free-to-play features, so don't cast your judgement yet. We discuss every bit of feedback we get and try to optimize our features to fit everybody's preferences. 2016 will see a lot of these features (prop placement, advertising, consumables etc) implemented and hopefully give you more reasons to keep playing and possibly spend your money on something that you feel has personal value.

Hope that clarifies a few topics of discussion!

First thing I'd like to address, my helmet disappeared so I can no longer use it,

Second thing, if I knew there were going to be premium events I would never have wasted the credits that you so "generously" supplied me with for purchasing the gold edition on clothing.

Third, Please don't be an asshole and make the level creator paid once that's implemented. That would give reason to most people saying fuck it, why should we continue to support these guys when we already spent $60 to support them when the game was absolute shit. If anything I think you should continue to offer gold and silver level founders with free incentives for being willing to give you money for a broken product. Otherwise keep up the OK work.

Fourth, I'm a "level 43" and it still wont let me spawn in at any of the unlockable drop points.

1) If your helmet disappeared, why not email us and ask where it went? We reply to all emails we get at info@ or bugs@ poppermost.se

2) We always try to be as transparent as possible about future plans for the game. This includes details of what's going to be released as free/paid content. I'm sorry if you weren't aware that there would be some paid events.

3) As this is a free-to-play game, there will always be a balance between free and premium content for all new features we add. We will make sure there are ways to get some of the premium content for free, but there will also be some exclusive things that can only be bought with in-game credits (though there will be ways to get in-game credits for free in the future)

4) Like with the helmet, you've experienced a bug. Feel free to email us and we can help instead of post here and complain that it's not working. Make sure to include you Steam ID.

So if we bought the game are we going to have to wait for a beta key when it goes closed, or will be automatically be able to log in and play?

I swear the physics in this game get worse and worse...

i just got a steam acct to play the game and downloaded the game, but when i launch snow i get "sqlstate[42S22] column not found: 1054 unknown column". did this happen to anybody else/does anybody know how to fix this?

You guys should bring back to ability to pop with the right stick by pushing it down and then up again. I found that to be the easiest and best-looking way to get onto rails.

gotta say this game is huge and i love it!

Here's some recommendations.

- The guy in multiplayer dies way too easily. underrotate 360 = death, bumb into friend = death, hit invisible wall = death. you get the idea

- also in multiplayer there should be like way to make someone your "friend" like if you die you spawn straight back to him. Now going to settings, players and finding his name takes ages.

- also is there any explanation on the grabs? sometimes when i press down and right the guy does a mute and sometimes japan? I can't get it consistant..
