SKI SUNDOWN 2012-2013

T-minus 1 month?

Stoked, don't feel like being an instructor really... So I can ski all day every day nowwww

hoping for good snow come the end of december, stoked to get back there for a day or two

The colder the better.

It's actually not just cold, the wet-bulb (combination of temp and humidity) needs to be below about 28*. Generally, this can happen with a temp under 28, but sometimes it can be higher and sometimes it needs to be lower, it depends on the humidity. On top of being cold for the actual snowmaking, it needs to remain cold after, or else it's just kinda a waste. That being said, the 10 day doesn't seem too promising...but if the trend continues after the 19th there might be a good shot after Thanksgiving weekend, especially if this warm spurt is our Indian Summer, cause if so, we got off very lucky. Luckily, because everything is ready to go and our snowmakers are fucking awesome, we really only need about 72 hours of solid snowmaking to be open. Keep those fingers crossed.

Obviously not at sundown, but it's skiers who regularly ski at sundown. Help get the stoke up. Credit to Adam Lukowski (LittleJoey) for the filming/editing:

Who want's a pair of Bombproof skis? 2012 ON3P Filthy Rich size 171. Mounted once with FKS bindings for 310 BSL (27.5 Full Tilt Boots). Used one season. A few edge cracks but no pullouts (and none of the cracks show signs of pulling out). Very minor topsheet chipping, pretty much no base damage. Looking for about $175 to a Sundown local, trying not to ship them. Message me if you want specific pics or to make an offer.

what can we turn the wall ride into - or change it so i dont hate it?

I'm not doing the welding, so draw something good. we're making Jordan build whatever it is we decide.

no bad ideas... draw it up

Hey I'm gonna be back in ct for a few weeks this winter, I'm probably gonna ski sundown for a few days cause I'll go crazy without skiing for that long haha, I've been living in Montana for awhile so it'll be nice to get back to some solid east coast hoodrat shenanigans. Do alot of skiers ski there? I've only gone once, a long time ago and want to see what the park situation is like, night park laps seem tight

There's a pretty good number of park skiers at Sundown. I'd say it's at least 60/40 skiers to snowboarders (maybe more).

Saturday: Partly cloudy, windy and colder. A few rain and snow showers. Low: 23. High: 45 inland, 47 shore.

Sunday: A few snow showers in the morning; turning partly sunny in the afternoon. Brisk. Low: 19. High: 40 inland, 43 shore.

Mother of God.....

I have a friend who's coming back for thanksgiving from Michigan and wants to ski sundown again. I'm assuming there's little to no chance of you guys being open. Can anyone prove me wrong?

So the TAFT thing is coming to sundeez on the 15th... Since you're not making any snow when the temps are right (right now it's already 25, and yes I know the crappy rain coming later...) But still, we've had many cold nights so far. Do you think you'll be open for that? (9 days..)

:/

There's a weather game going on right now. THe reason we arent making right now, is cause its gonna be hot.... just like before... it was cold-ish and then it got HOT.... so, where does that leave us?

if temps allow, we'll start making snow. the 15th is an ideal opening date... but so was the 8th, the 1st and the 23rd... so.... we wait.....

you may have noticed Mohawk is making snow. ..... in a strange way..... because the melting will happen....

they're going about opening a bit differently than us....

anyway, you'll remember we had 5 trails and a park last year for opening day.... that was a little more than 48 hours of snow making weather.

dont be nervous, we are not.

its an awefully expensive battle plan to fight this weather that way......

like you said, that little bit in difference of location is an advantage.

either way... not much good to dwell on things.,.. its weather...

found a ticket so hopefully will get to ski around with you all you guys over xmas break, not sure yet though. snowmakin temps dont look too promising through saturday. jarrod or brendan when do you guys think you'll open? its weird PC is getting bitched at for not having a 50 foot jump while you guys arn't open

I can only think of one reason why the lights would be on at night when they're not open....

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YESY ES YES YES YES YES YES YES YESY ES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

stay tuned for Noridca and Tell a Friend up dates...

we're hoping for a friday / saturday rail jam session with each crew... however!!! big however, if the hot bag of shit water that's forecasted comes this way, then we cant mess up the piles. there's a glazing that happens when you the piles sit, that helps protect the snow against rain. opening is more important than rail jams. rail jams are more important video games... so, wish the snow makers luck, tell your weatherman to keep it chilly.

YES! So how is it looking for saturday? If the mountain doesnt open will there at least be a rail jam for tell a friend?

... wasnt gonna work out....

collectivly, no one here wanted a wonky set up up for something like the TAFT and the Noridica / Lupe sessions...

both are being rescheduled.

Sundown doin' work! I want toms to open haha I hate how it's like the last trail to open. It was so mint last year!

Don't take this the wrong way...but you need to stop being scared of medium features...if you start hitting them you'll get more comfortable with them and then you'll slay the mini park even more. I know it's only your second year in the park, but I've seen you ski, you're good enough to hit most of what's put up at sundown...you just need to get confident with it.

That being said...I too love me some Tom's laps.

2nd year ever skiing haha.. Fine bwalm fine. But lapping toms > stinger. Just not as crowded and not under the lift and I just like the smaller fun features over the big ones that everyone watches you thinking you're gonna do some big trick.. Plus IMO I'm not good at skiing and don't really feel comfortable hitting stinger idk why :/

Fair enough...I just think you're underestimating yourself...it's not like we set up anything THAT big (there are some feature mid-season that even I have to think about a few times before manning up to them...but for the most part it's nothing super crazy). I do get the under the lift thing, I guess I don't think too much of it because I learned how to ski park under lift (most parks are under a lift anyways...you just kinda get used to it).

Sounds like your pretty damn good if its only your second year. This will also be my second season on snow and pretty excited to learn some actual park techniques. Ski next to me to make your self feel better. I stick to Toms also not because I'm embarrassed but because I actually suck and know my limits. Hopefully things change this year by skiing with other people. Learning by yourself is a painfully slow progression.

Haha word, and god damnit mother nature... You let sundown open the only day during break I can't go... Seriously? Sucks that I'll be spending half my vacation not skiing, but waiting to ski.

getting back christmas night so will definably be there. anyone have any idea what the setup for the park will be or will it be like last year with the two flat rails

all depends on snow my friend... which we wont be able to predict until its on the ground.... being weather related and all
