Ski Sundown 10/11 Season

we also cleaned up an old lift tower and i;'ll be making a bell at some point too. i really gotta get caught up on cleaning the features we already have though.

it'll be cold by middle of next week.

Yea. And it's gonna be SO MUCH FUN!!! Just saw it today and it looks awesome. Skinny rail will be at simsbury celebrates tomorrow night, and the bell is gonna be fun. There are some

...really cool new things hanging around that would make fun stuff too. Gonna be an awesome season for sure!

It's SO much nicer in person too. Gonna be so much fun. Don't forget about Simsbury Celebrates tomorrow night. Last rail jam of the pre-season, gonna be killer.

All the railjams are done, now just waiting for sundown to open. Forecast is looking good mid-week, If you make snow this week, when would the opening day be? Thanks.

Those are very nice, but I believe the current plan is true tables...3 in a line...small, small/medium, medium/large...but plans can change based on weather/snow, and whatever Jarrod thinks up, haha.

Can they be like the ones from 2 years ago? and to the guy that asked where, probably in a line on the left, going from top to bottom(where the jump usually is) and there will still be room for rails onh the right, and up top

Only wish is to have the flat bar at the bottom of stinger, like last year for the oakley comp, when it was down at the bottom along with the S rail. It's nice to have a basic rail to hike and just get back into the full swing of the season and bring your skills back up to par, especially for intermediate kids, like myself. Last season it stunk when it was at the top cause it was a pain to get speed for sometimes.

the only problem with building true-tables is those jumps require the most snow to make. then if they're made right(i fotget maybe 2 years ago when it was a 20 foot step over that you could take deeeep) kids knuckle it and just side slide the whole landing.

then with the sheet ice landing you cant take it shallow or deep.

id say the only way to keep any kind of jumps in decent shape would divide the park right under the lift with snow fence, like how they do for the comps. build tiny mounds of snow with lips on them for the gaypers on the right of stinger and have a enterance that you need to like stop and side step up to get into the park on the left of stinger.

idk that would seem like the best way to keep kids safe in the park after ive seen alot of close calls there

Holy shit. I'm so glad Big Boulder's on the college pass. Safe to say I'll be making a trip down there come springtime.

This could work, or you could put snow fence, everywhere and make it LOOK like its roped off, so we just climb under the fence to get in.. that or have someone monitoring for a park pass system

They probably never will, it's a dumb thing that really does nothing, it's so easy to get a park pass at other mountains that it doesn't stop people from getting one and it's makes the park look too important and stands out in kinda a negative way. (so you'll hear stuf like "go back to the park were you belong" from angry people more often). Havin the progression park on Toms is really going to help keep stinger a bit more clear anyways.

Ehh i don't know.. usually the gapers see the jumps and are like "woah i wanna do that!" and don't usually say it about rails or boxes

thats exactly it. its not the kids that are trying to learn that are the problem, its the dads with their 7 year old girls. its the racers that jump off the sides of lips. and its the moms standing in the landings.

and sundown is to small for any progression park to make a big difference. its all the weekend warriors that say "lets go in the park" and just head straight to stinger.

and i disagree with that. i think park passes do a TON. it keeps people coming up for a day from spending the time to get a park pass, (which is a ton of sundowns business it seems like). if a video is required, i feel like it would also show parents with little kids that standing in landings or riding down them is the absolute most dangerous place to be in a park.

but if anyone gets hurt in the park without a park pass, (its real easy to get onto stinger from other trails) that opens up to sundown to another lawsuit asking why they werent enforcing the park pass system close enough

yea Lai-hipps right kids that are trying to learn are not the problem, at one point or another we were all gapers. Its people who dont no or dont care to learn about " park ediqute" that are endangering them selves and others by standing in landings, cuting people off, jumping off sides of lips, etc. A park pass IMO seems stupid but if there was some way we could educate people by a movie or sumthing on ways to conduct yourself in a park i think that would help everone and make people happy.

This reminds me of my video.... the little girl cuts off people all day, and then it happens to jeff, and he tries to explain how dangerous it is, but the bitch says "how are we supposed to know the rules?" Although her arguing and skiing away when he was trying to politely explain to her was rediculous, i think she did have a point about Knowing the rules. Park passes where you need to take a test or sit through a short video could help atleast a few people.

And that video is one of the reasons the Park Crew have an extra aspect to their job this year...

The main reason Sundown doesn't want park passes is because they don't want to deter people from the park, it's an open area, as it should be, how many people wouldn't have ever even started park skiing if they weren't allowed to just stroll right in and check it out - I know I probably wouldn't have. But, back to my previous statement, I'm not going to get into too much detail, but basically the park crew will be making sure people understand the safety rules and park etiquette. Just remember...and I believe I said this in last years thread...make sure that you don't go around yelling and being dicks to people in the park...either respectfully ask them to move or watch out, or ask one of the park crew to talk to them, it'll really help keep everyone happy and, like I said last year, help give park skiers and snowboards a better name and "normal" skiers wont look down on us as much.

the simple answer? guys like yourselves educating others would help a ton. being polite to mom and her 2 daughters standing on landings goes a long way. simply pointing out dangers instead of making people feel dumb and un-wanted. everyone on this thread especially, the little guys look up to you. if you're setting the example every single run, then the little guys will tell their parents that some decisions are better than others.

I heard that another webcam will be on stinger? And is it just me or is the webcam not working now?

DEC. 10TH

I heard that the 32 is only have painted cause the power went out on Wednesday...guess what I'll be doing in the morning.

I also heard Sundown has another webpage...maybe you guys should try and find it.

it has to do with something else that's new...it's one of the first things you see on the normal website.

haha, nope, I'm serious on this one...you gotta find it...I promise, it's not hard at all.

no...that's mine...Sundown helps me promote it cause I help promote them, and I work there and they like me and what I'm doing...

it's actually MUCH simpler than, however, there are no links (that I know of) on their FB page or their website...you have to be slightly creative to find it at the moment...it will be VERY, VERY obvious on opening day...though.

told you...

I'll try and make sure kyle has them running if I remember/see him in the morning. Should be pretty sweet, can't wait to take the "after" pictures to the before and after snow making shots.
