Oh... and about the thing with planned parenthood. Teaching abstinance doesn't work.

You can pound that into kids all you want... it just doesn't work. Sex ed classes taught that for the longest time. Finally they are focusing on safe sex. Young people are going to have sex no matter what. You can't force someone to not have sex, especially when they know that there are things out there to drastically reduce the risk.
There are 8573858380593 different products out there to make sex extremely safe. Simply wearing a condom with a spermacidal lubricant is extremely effective in preventing the spread of STDs and preventing pregnancy. Not to mention female birth control. Here at Pitt I work for the department of Endocrinology. I was talking with my principle investigator and there are researchers currently perfecting a male birth control. Thats right gents. Within the next 5 years there will be a pill you can take that will make sure you don't spread your seed too soon.
Most people are unaware of this. But HIV is not as easily spread as some may think. Now this is not so you don't take protection seriously, but even if you have unprotected sex with someone who is HIV positive, the percentages are in your favor that you won't become infected. So you can imagine how much a condom effects this even more. This is also a fun fact, but did you know your chances of contracted HIV or hepatitis B from being stuck with a dirty needle that was used on a positive person is only 0.45%. Thats according to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
I don't want this to come off as, I'm saying that you shouldn't worry about these things. I'm just trying to point out that sex can be made very safe, if using the right methods. Organizations like planned parenthood are making sure that these methods are used properly.
Of course some kids are going to get hurt skiing. You can tell them to stop skiing, and therefore they aren't going to get hurt doing it. Do you think the vast majority are going to stop skiing??? No, because they love to do it. So you might as well get them a helmet and some quality bindings, and maybe even some gloves with wrist guards or a jacket with a spine protector. Limit the risk.
