Rant About Whatever

When a customer service response takes a week only to give a generic template response based on the category of your question.... Mfer I'd be firing some fucking managers or figuring out how an agent can be so lazy. Bro didn't even read my ticket.

Offshore wind gets too much hate. Free, renewable energy with practically zero downside. There have been all these claims about how the mapping/ installation and operational 'vibrations' produced by the platforms interfere with whales ability to navigate, but not even NOAA has been able to find any scientific relationship between the increase of whale deaths and the installation of offshore wind farms. the real culprit is the increase in shipping traffic. The ambient noise caused by the insane amount of engines in the water can and has been proven to fuck with whales. Also quite the coincidence that a lot of the major donations to the save the whales/ anti offshore wind organizations are from fossil fuel companies...

“i’m sorry but we don’t want you to feel that way.” then show it. show up for once. just show tf up. be fucking adults jesus christ. be the parent. i don’t owe you shit, i don’t ask for anything besides to be a sensible person. show the fuck up for once and listen to me. i’m so sick of this cycle

you would think that the companies that make strands of lights would make the gap between light when connecting strands the same as the gaps between each light.

I just wish they made extension cords with those new led connectors so you could bridge the lights and not have a random strand sticking out.

Offshore wind farms are destroying marine life just go move to Japan and hunt dolphins while you are at it. Most of them break down within 5 years too they are not reliable for what they cost. Then they can’t ever be removed due to the cost so you have the eyesores there forever.

I hate those things

Would genuinely love to read any sources you may have for this. From my understanding, theres really a pretty small impact on marine life. The platforms don't take up much room and are built in surveyed areas that are cleared before hand so they have a very minimal direct impact, plus most of the time an ecological risk assessment will be preformed on the areas around the farm and along the cable path. Monopile platforms that stand on the seabed are specifically engineered so their often times extremely low operational frequencies (around 10-100 Hz) are out of the range of hearing for marine life (from 10 Hz to 20 kHz, but only really sensitive above 2 kHz). The operational frequencies of the sonar equipment used to survey the areas is also outside their hearing range at around 100-400 kHz (high frequency to achieve high resolution for construction). Their lifespan is also around 20-30 years if I remember correctly, they may have to be serviced after 5 years but they don't become unusable. They also can definitely be disassembled and have been in the past.

Youre not a scientist. These guys are. And they're most likely liberal like you. Maybe take a look at what they think.

Hoping my employee housing isn't all stiched up. Got to Mammoth today. Was telling me about my Bishop parking permit and I was like woah woah woah. Bishop? Thinking I have to park my car down there. But then they were planning on putting me in housing there. I out in for housing months ago and everything was supposed to be lined up.

Def not working grave shift and living another 45 min from town plus the trip up the mtn. Idk. It's late af in the season now. Hoping this works out.

Also hoping winter turns on soon. Pissing rain in town now but looked like its snowing even in the parking lots on the mtn looking at cars coming down.

Need to start work. I am poor.

Bait, im afraid, but I’ll bite. Idk if ‘scientist’ is the right word, but I have a degree in ocean engineering and currently work for an environmental engineering firm dealing mostly with the installation of offshore wind farms. Also, I’m assuming you didn’t read the article you posted since its main argument against offshore wind farms is the ‘draft from the wind behind them makes the ocean more turbulent’ which you have to admit is pretty dumb. How much turbulence could be created by the presence of a few poles? Especially given the scale of the ocean and the amount of energy transferred over it. Also the last paragraph of the article quite literally starts with “The report does not call for slowing of offshore wind development”

I guess the person just had something messed up and I'm sorted out with a spot in Mammoth. Nothing special but its in town. Haven't met the roommate yet but hopefully they're chill.

Glad that panned out. Was a hell of a surprise at first. Gave me a bit of a fright.

I like my employee housing setup a lot but there are always strings-attached and I kind-of hate how they started me in-between a pay period and have me on a pro-rated rent payment via paychecks until Feb basically. Money is super tight and I basically built a budget to prepare to come out west to patrol and it kinda fucked me for the first 4 weeks. It's through a vacation property company and its great service though. No laundry units in the place so we have to go into town to go do laundry but its cheap. I got a bag of quarters!

Stop trying to gaslight people whales never started regularly washing up dead ashore in large numbers until the wind farms showed up. Put those wind farms in the desert or something they have no business in the ocean.

Glad your on the hill that would suck driving all that way.

Can’t believe it’s so hard for these places to just build a couple fucking buildings so the folks who keep everything running can have a roof. Not bait and switch and ask to drive 45 mins.

Hell yeah !! Seems illogical for them to place a groomer out of town since you all are critical and work nights. I need make it down to mono county with the monoski this winter

For sure!! Rarely perfect but its something. These days it's pretty dope because housing is friggin hard to come by.

Yup! Keep them quarters stacked!!

Yeah Idk what got mixed up but I got scared lol. Honestly the bussing sounds solid and that def works for day shift people. Cheaper rent farther from town but still got free transport to and from work.

But I honestly might have put out a sender for jobs. Not trying to drive an extra 45 min to work everyday. That would be a big change to spring last minute.

Lol i didn't read it. I was just angry and drunk yesterday and felt like arguing with strangers on the internet about something I know absolutely nothing about.

convoying on the way home to minnesota with another friend, he hits a deer so we pick him and all his shit up. as soon as we stop for gas in the other car the transmission decides to off itself, now we’re stuck in columbus montana.

tell me why you like python, why you like pip, why you like a slow interpreted lang made for math majors not engineers

oven randomly stopped working this morning. maybe I just need to turn off the power to it and then reset it or something. hopefully it is something easy like that. was kinda thinking I'd try to convince Santa to get me a new phone but I know Santa is motivated by fresh baked cookies so he's probably gonna be more concerned about my oven than a phone. phone was having issues but the more I experiment it seems like maybe it has more to do with most of my charging cables being messed up somehow

Lol it’s a tool that does a job. I like it in the sense that it’s useful to me. A couple features I’ve found useful are the built in json tooling and the amount of library support it has due to its popularity. Namely the fastapi and mongoengine libraries. Oh, and those libraries are easily installed using pip :) All of these things save time with development and saving time means saving money which is why python is used so widely in enterprise settings.

Also not sure what you mean by interpreted lang? The Python sdk comes standard with both a compiler and an interpreter. You can compile python the same way you can compile other languages.

glad you like it. Pip is objectively bad tho, and most people would agree the only worse package manger is probably node. Go's package management is very clean if you ever look at it.

the issue i had yesterday was an old django repo running like 3.5 was looking for a psycopg2 binary, when my computer updated the binary got changed in locations or the setup wheels got messed up idk?. pip was caching the old messed up binary. so it was seg faulting. had to throw it into gdb and step through until I found that the sigterm was being thrown from psycopg, then did some path tracing and just had to reinstall psycopg2.

really just a waste of time
