Rant About Whatever

The cool thing about Patrolling or any wilderness EMT job is that it really is an art form in a way that there's options on how to get things done like patient care or work projects and that everyone on the team is open to collaboration and constructive helpful criticism.

But it is really frustrating sometimes as a rookie to an entirely new operation having higher ups and management comedown hard on your leads/mentors and change up our training protocols because "it's not the way I want it done"....nevermind if it's effective or not or if its better...just that "I've been doing x or y for this long and I plan to keep it that way". Dealing with the older generation patrollers and their egos is sometimes hard when you just want to learn how to do your job effectively. There's been a lot of miscommunication lately with directors being off on vacation and coming back to work and acting all pissy because things arent the way THEY want it done because they were checked out for a week....Ugh

And then the GM raised hell about our heaters in our top shack because it dropped down below freezing the other night and everything in the shack froze, it was so cold that some of our medical equipment needed to be replaced. She caught wind of that, came up to our shack, and demanded all appliances and shit be thrown out effective immediately due to it looking "ghetto" with extension cords running.

How does anyone have time for kids, I cannot imagine any scenario where I fit that into my life.

7-3pm work, 3-5pm workout and shower, 5-7 cook, eat and dishes. Yay it's 7pm and I have free time. Too bad I'm exuasted and have to clean the apt or run a bunch of errands. Socializing? No. That's for weekends.

Wait till you're out there on the road for longer. It's absolutely wild. You basically follow the general rules, but assume at any time somebody will go fully rogue. It's a friggin warzone sometimes.

What do you do with the other 12hrs of your day?

9hrs goes to sleep or getting to bed/reading. The remaining 3hrs is my "freetime" after 7

well usually people with kids have some else to help. my parents have 5 kids, i don't know how they do it bless em. but my mom works from home (with occasional work trips) and my dad's job is pretty flexible. if it wasn't it would be tough.

Other than that do you like patrolling? I’ve been bombing interviews in web development and honestly feeling burnt out. Really looking for a change of pace sometimes

That's a good point but we both want to keep working as much as we can. It's not impossible but just sucks that everyone has to make sacrifices on things like proper healthy cooking or hitting the gym. I guess that's why it's called a dad bod

Ah there you go. 1-2 more hours by cutting sleep to 6 or 7hr. You can cut the gym and cooking time by an hour each. So 8 hours free time. If you really got shit to do, lose sleep and now you're at 10+ extra hours.

It's amazing. One of my directors said "It's the greatest Dead-end job in the world" and I feel that so hard. Money's super tight, but you get to help people on-snow and learn a bunch of cool shit so yeah, Definitely recommend. Honestly anyone who skis regularly and/or lives around the mountains should consider some sort of EMT or WFR training. You really never know, I've only patrolled for 2 seasons and have seen plenty of wild head-scratching shit.

Hell yeah man that’s dope, I just miss being outside and on my feet too. I imagine I can get a nice cushy job in tech but also comes with a lot of BS. I just wish I was closer to a mtn.

trail building or some shit like that seems pretty cool too in the off-season as well

It does have its challenges for sure but when it comes time, you find the time. I truly love being a dad as it is one of the greatest things to ever be called.

So I'm destined to be old, tired, and out of shape. Kidding but yea that's definitely where I'd have to take time away from.

i literally can’t have a conversation with my father without it turning into how I ruin his life in everyday possible and how I’ll never be anything in life. love this family sm ??

Hard days come with any job but yeah, I also resonate with that too as well. My issue is I need to get more serious about exploring other EMS/WFR/Fire jobs myself. I'd like to explore Wildland Firefighting myself because that sounds fun as fuck digging lines with the boys.

Lol not necessarily. You just gotta determine what is a priority, including how much you wanna see your kids, and what you wanna give up. It's harder if you're a woman because no matter how involved the dad is, the mom is definitely gonna have more responsibility when a child is concerned.

For example, I got a buddy who has two kids under the age of 3, working full time with on-call responsibilities and still finds time for hobbies like training for triathlons and going backpacking.

Told my dad last night I’m never having kids and never getting married. It’s too damn expensive to be fulfilled these days

Kids who live in their parents houses, get gifted cars. Then whine about their parents are ungrateful. My parents booted my ass out of their house when i was 23. Best thing that ever happened to me. Now we have a great relationship.

Yea mostly kidding, it'll work out. I work remote so hoping when the time comes that I am still in that position where I'm home all day.

Why did the university decide that my physics final has to be in the last possible finals slot. Like I could've been out of here 2 days ago but nooooooo I have a physics final at 7:30 tonight.

true but a lot of kids complain about their parents even though the parents are genuinely trying to put the kid on the right path.

He's in high school and being told stuff that equates to "you were a mistake and ruined my life". That's so fucked up. If he was older maybe, but come on. From what I can gather, his dad is the classic stereotypical rich guy who neglects his family or shits on them because he's insecure inside.

WoFlowz makes a ton of stupid posts and I'm sure is a dickhead teen from time to time but none of that justifies the stuff in posts he's made on here.

This is funny af and reminded me how trivial most bad kid problems actually are. Lemme tell ya nothing worse than a drug addict in the family stealing all your shit, scamming and assaulting folks.

Fr. Most of the shit parents ive met or been around were all rich fucks. For them money is everything so they think if they keep buying their kids shit that means their kid is happy too. Even if they are absolute shitbags.

Kids dont need new 100k cars. They need parents

there’s definitely a few times i’ve deserved a talking to about how if i fuck up again I won’t go to college and be a disappointment but this time wasn’t lol. I had just let my dad know I wouldn’t be home next tuesday or thursday afternoon/evening cause night lessons start, and i’ll be gone all weekend and he went on some crazy rant. All about how entitled I am to think I can just not help drive my sister to soccer those days in order to work. When bro literally works from home 3 days a week and very well could do it but would rather spend his free time doing other things. And that he couldn’t believe I wasn’t going to kentucky to watch my sister play in a spccer showcase for colleges this weekend. WHEN I HAVE BEEN COACHING EVERYWEEKEND SINCE 9th Grade. This isn’t new but cause she got ask to go to some SEC college showcase i should go? She’s never been to my regattas. But Because he never did that to his parents or siblings it’s wrong. And I shouldn’t feel like I’m able to leave the house when ever and something about that being a issue along with ruining his nights because now he has to take my sister to soccer. Along with If i’m always working there’s no time for him to ski with me which is a valid point but I literally get him a free szn pass. All after I had gotten bitched out cause it took longer to get dependent passes for him and my mom and sister. But I still got them even tho it took longer than it should have.

It’s so dumb. I’m working to have spending money/college tuition esp if I go to a pricey school like a NESCAC or SLU. Considering I’ll prolly have to take on about 10-20k in debt a year except at SLU. Plus won’t be able to work besides on campus cause all the campus‘s are in the middle of butt fuck no where.

If you can go to Santa Clara I would highly recommend doing so. Not very good for developing skiing skills but the network building opportunities there are unusually abundant.

Rly considering SLU, Santa Clara and Williams BECAUSE of the alumni network. Bates and SLU are giving me the most money and guaranteed admission cause of rowing ??‍♂️

Been rocking a 5 1/2 hour average for like 3 years.

Melatonin and sleep aids don't do much. Substances help conk me out but result in shit sleep and me waking up and being awake awake when I'm sober like, 5 hours later.

Pops has apnea, I should probably get a sleep study done
