Me and said guy I work with are not doing good still. Idk, thought time and age would at least make it work. I legit only found out he was coming back when I was in joburg or I might not have.
But shit like this
So yesterday he hits me up asking me to meet him slopeside at 3pm. I tell him I'm in Clarens(south Africa) for another day. Passport stamp, getting off the mountain, first days off this season. He fucking ghosts me.
How can you wanna be a manager and just not reply to to people because you don't like something. Fucking happened a bunch but the other night on the slopes. I pushed us up to tower 7(8 is the top) I was pretty sure that was the plan anyway. He asked me what I was up to and how it was going. Gave him a quick detailed recap..... radio silence.
I think right now my plan is to make it to the end of the month and then I'll switch to ski school. I'm a great teacher but hate teaching as a job if that makes sense. But that said if I teach I'll have 1 day off a week, clock out at 430 and have a life. this shit aint working. I don't get paid enough to even be here let along work 7 days a week, be on call for shit 24/7, and get angry voicemails on whatsapp when he's pissed off.
I'm fucking good at my job, I do a great job with no supervision because I care. I get some oversight but angry voicemails, micromanager bs, ghosting me if he doesn't like something I send him? Fuck that. Fuck this guy. Legit the ONLY reason I didn't come back to afriski in 2018 and will 100% never come back here. Fuck this place.
Awesome people but man, if people like that are moving up in management? Yikes. See you never. People talk about the vails etc for running things shitty while payng so little. Man, I agree, but this is so much worse. Nothing like losing money to live in a country, work 7 days a week, sometimes 14+ hour days and then get angry voicemails because your boss is a cunt.

Anyway dude just reached out to me while I was typing that and is pissed I'm not back up at the mountain. I really don't give a fuck. I'm a hard worker but I lose money to be here. 7 days a week long hours? All good. I'm good at my job. You treat me like shit on top of that? Man fuck you I'm out.
Either switching to ski school or maybe booking an earlier flight home. Afriski is a cool place but this dude sucks. I'm not getting sucks into his negative spiral just because he's a miserable asshole.
Some people are just toxic. Hoped it wouldn't come to this but was scared when I heard he was back. We literally picked up where we left off. Him just being an ass for whatever reason. Asking you questions and then never responding if he doesn't like the answer.
Idk, some people are not cut out for management. It's been a fun experiment coming back. Otherwise people are cool, energy is coming back, but I will never work at this place again. It's a shame really but in a workplace setting absolutely fuck that guy

It's wild. I care so much about the ski industry. Building fun safe shit for people to hit, grooming out nice slopes. But legit I don't care if I quit or get fired for being in Sa for a couple days. That place sucks to work at because of one person.
I went back to my home mtn in NY when I was injured, got donations and built them rails and a park for free. For friggin free. It's never been about the money for me. I love giving some cool shit back to the younger generation that's down to thrash themselves learning tricks.
