ngl i cannot understand y people will not hire anyone if there’s a shortage of minimum wage workers. I’ve applied to 10ish jobs and non have replied in the past two weeks. My availability is monday-saturday, 9-9 and i have retail experience, customer service, clerical and business management experience

Stoked to be back in Africa. A few familiar faces from back in the day and met some awesome people. Been getting some laps in and helping some people learn some tricks. Also fun and challenging as fuck/frustrating trying to do what you want to do with a pisten bully 240d from the late 80s lol. Actually got grooming/building park somewhat dialed in now. Machine is fussy but it's cool to make it work for what you need.
Anyway, the reason I didn't come back here in 2018 was my boss. I think that was literally the only reason. I stayed in America in for the 2018 season and chilled.
Had some issues with my Australian visa this year. Looked like I'd probably have gotten it, but it was taking too long and I got bumped on the housing list, so at that point pretty much a no go.
Afriski needed some people. they had a tough couple years after covid and some weird transition shit. Anyway, I've always wanted to come back, check the place out and visit some friends around southern Africa. So I signed on.
I actually had been in Joburg for a day or too waiting for a ride to Lesotho to the ski area when I first found out said boss gugy had decided to come back.
I wasn't stoked but figured it's been 7 years. We're both older and hopefully we can get a long. I'm down for whatever and just happy to be back. Unfortunately not so much the case. Dude's ability to deal with people has somehow gotten worse. And we're picking up where we left off.
Every place has problems, but basically everything else is good or food enough. It's friggin skiing in Africa. It sucks that literally the only reason I didn't come back in 2018, is now back here, and making me feel the same way.
Luckily other departments are all short so I might just switch to ski school and teach the peoples.
Idk it's a bummer because I love parks and grooming, and I'm decent at my job. Extremely motivated. I worked my ass off last time I was here and our parks were sick. Rebuilt the rail fleet, did a bunch of maintenance and welded up a new donkey dick rail.
I'm passionate about this place and was so stoked to come back, but that dude really just sucks to work with. Even the guests he's yelling at them kind of aggressively. Just stands in the base by the lift and yells at people. Yelled at a little kid because he fell on a jump. Like this is peoples vacations and they're spending $$ to be here. You need to keep people safe but you don't need to be an ass about it.
We'll see how the rest of the season goes. I'm not really making money to be here. I came cause I love the place and the people here. Sucks how much 1 person can have a negative impact on your experience.

I fucking hate how my brain sketches me out when I date people and it possibly might be going well but you get scared of getting your heart broken again or breaking their heart. I don't like emotions sometimes but I am at least learning how to accept them for what they are. I haven't done this in a really long time and idk what pace to go with.

my lil pos dart needed some work and my dads friend does super cheap work but it takes a long time so we switched and im borrowing his truck. its a diesel truck that was used for our horse trailer and other real truck stuff. super nice truck that i couldn't afford nor do i want so i sarcastically will call it ‘daddy's truck’ as i haul my bikes with it lol
anyway, im a fuckin idiot!! I saw a sign for a truck stop that had diesel for $3.06 when gas
is $3.09 so fuck yeah I went there. the pumps for the semis are fuckin faaaast! so ive been filling up here always. well today i saw that they had a lane for ‘auto diesel’ so i said oh shit whats this? its highway diesel for semis only!! fuuuuck
i had no idea. my mpgs have dropped significantly since ive been using it. what a jabroni!! hopefully 2 tanks wont do any long term

First week all summer i’ve gotten more than 18hrs at the bike shop, now that i’m a manager I do Tuesday-Thursday for 10hrs plus another 6-8 saturday and i picked up friday night for a race packet pickup. I’m currently making 18$ a hour, but for the amount of work i’m doing is lowk insane. I’m 17 managing three adult employees, finances, schedules/timesheets, in addition to maintaining/working on accounts with our suppliers. It just seems like a ton for what I’m making. I’m glad the owner gave me more hours because I need to save money. At the same time, now that i’m a manager/supervisor without the title or pay it sucks. I legit spent all yesterday on the phone with out Cervelo rep, determining what we can pay on the acc, maintain our line of credit with them, as well as custom order things. In addition to helping in the shop and receiving two pallets from Kona and JBI/QBP. Like i love the owner he’s given me a job since 14, I get insane discounts and he’s flexible with rowing all around a nice guy. But with all the work i do, I should be payed more. With this experience I could be making 23plus at Toms Pro Bike 10 minutes away. Mind you they wouldn’t be as flexible but like seriously? I can’t get anymore. I don’t make commission, I beg for hours, and take care of the business side of the shop, and still sold 11grand worth of Argon’s and Cervelos while doing all this. I’ve got another job and it’s a bit above minimum wage but sucks, I can get more hours and it is tipped but scooping ice cream for 8-10hrs drives me insane. Idk it’s just wearing me down working at the shop, then scooping ice cream 7-12 then waking up at 5:30 going to crew 6-8 then working 8:30ish to 6 everyday sometimes 6:30 if i need to get extra work done. i just don’t want to leave but also want to be compensated even tho Ik for a fact money is tight cause i take care of the books. Mind you this is a fuck ton of responsibility running a business for someone else at 17.

Good friend of mine at work got dumped by his girl, lost his job at the ski hill , and got evicted from employee housing all in a week. Worried about him right now. He's living in his car at the moment God knows where. Was just working with him like 2 days ago

For some reason my fathers ex-girlfriend still wants to keep contact with me and my siblings. I don't really understand what she gets out of it. I have just cold-ishly ignored her invitations to do things, Siblings still answer to these even though it apparently feels like a chore to them.
