Any NSers wanna ski Bridger on Friday? I don't think I've skied at an actual ski area with pretty much anyone here

Winter park might be my favorite CO mountain, I can’t decide between abay, WP, and CB but this place has some absolutely fucked terrain lol

Skiing is so dangerous I’m astonished I haven’t gotten more hurt doing it.last month My uncle was skiing under the lift making some wide normal turns and hit a divot, went head first into the snow and broke his neck. He’s paralyzed from the neck down now and I feel terrible for him. He was wearing a helmet and has been skiing for 40 years, sometimes there’s just nothing you can do I guess. Be careful guys!

That really sucks I'm sorry. But what doesn't make sense to me is how I've done this exact thing dozens of times and never had an issue. I also have heard of people tearing their ACLs doing a normal ass turn. Are all these people totally unathletic or made of paper? Or do these random freak accidents happen to people who do yoga and strength training and such for injury prevention?

I have no idea, he’s like 60 years old and In good shape. Might just be age but I think he also had some previous neck issues that maybe contributed? Idk but either way a bummer

As you age, your body becomes more and more fragile. Lower hormones, lower bone density, lower muscle mass, higher fat content. This is why it's important to be healthy before you turn 30.

So basically yes, this does just mostly just happen to people who are in an unathletic state, is what you're saying?

Genuinely curious because I crash a lot skiing and don't think it's a huge deal but this spontaneous injury thought really challenges my confidence

This happens to everybody, but people who are athletic tend to fair much better.

Fun statistic: Getting 300mins of vigorous cardio per week reduces all cause mortality 5 fold.

But then again freak shit can happen. My gf tore each of her MCLs within 3 years snowboarding. I will always wear a knee brace on my bad knee

(Want to make a clear topic divider for my post. It’s sad what happened above and I don’t want to blame him) Freak accidents definitely happen. But coming from a climbing background, there’s an art to falling that is acquired over time which can significantly reduce chances for injury. Each fall is rolling the dice though, and sometimes injury still happens.

That seems very unusual to happen. Is there something in her lifestyle that would predispose her to those injuries? (other than snowboarding)

She swam pretty competitively through high school and a bit of college, but basically has zero cartilage in her knees

its a little of both

youth def is served in that bodies flex, rebound the next day quicker, shii don't hurt quite as much

But

if your number is randomly called, none of the above means shit, yer hert

There’s something I’m not getting about Snowbasin. It’s hyped up around here, but I’ve never had a day where I didn’t wish I was somewhere else. In addition to seemingly always being low visibility or refrozen and rock hard, something about it feels off.

Hey when you guys are carving off jumps, do you carve til you’re going off straight or are you going at like a subtle angle?

someone asked me the question yesterday and I can’t think of the right way for the life of me

The battle for best skier in the world is gettin tight between Ahall and Colby, I mean that sw 5 was probably the most stylish corbets hit I've ever seen, the tweak is unreal, has he always been riding big mountain shit???

Colby does some pretty crazy dubs on BC jumps in Romance by Level 1. Other than that I haven't seen him do much BC / Big Mountain stuff but he clearly has the skill for it

Ive seen Colby ski lines at Snowbird. I feel very confident that he could ski the FWT if he wanted to. He's just crazy talented on skis, and very very strong technically as a skier in addition to all the park skiing.

I don't like dog piss stance backslides. either holding your leg closer or grabbing safety while doing it looks much better IMO

Does anyone day dream about skiing and then get a rush thinking about hitting something cool? Or is that just me

Finally realizing that ski season is ending around MN:( can’t weekday ski after work now and 2 maybe 3 weekends left if we’re lucky. Don’t know what to do with myself

Sadness. I'm hoping for spirit mountain, Giants ridge any of those up north places hold out for a couple more weekends.

I still have a foot and a half of snow in my yard.

I will also soon suddenly have large amounts of free time that I won't know what to do with.

Decided I’m going to use them to just go Mach 10 on Loveland Chair 9 windcrust #noturnsgang #search&destroy #missile #hashtagsrfun

Debating what to do with these. They’re pretty stiff (bamboo and carbon) and they don’t really fit my skiing style anymore. The shape is kind of hooky in deep snow. Wondering if I should just make them like a park ski but maybe they’re too stiff for that. 107 underfoot and 180 (actually a 177 true length). Or should I just retire them? I got them by interning there so sentimental value. Don’t love the bindings

Took the slant bamboo/carbon stiff boards out today. No give. Almost no camber. Holy hell they TRUCK. I forgot. A little harder on the knees since the ski wasn’t deflecting in the tip, etc. so energy was going to my knees but DAMN were they powerful. Taking them out again tomorrow

Holy shit today was insane. The snow was super good, not the most crazy ever, but still maybe 9.5/10. For a Saturday it was bonkers that we were able to get on the lifts with only short 2 minute lines. Almost every run was untracked unless we went back over our own tracks. Couldn't believe it. The weather was supposed to be miserable and wasn't that bad at all, either.

Snow was amazing down in CO too

Cold as fuck. Loveland was like 4f with negative windchill. My toes were going numb but I stayed in the trees and the snow was phenomenal. Reminded me of this resort I worked at in Australia where the wind would grab snow from the Australian main range (above tree line) and deposit it all day long. Not the deepest but cold, quality snow

14523209:ReturnToMonkey said:
Hell yeah, but how was the weather? My friend said it was the worst day ever cus of cold and wind

Yeah dude the trees are totally where it was at on days like today

For sure. Was it cold and windy up there too?

Teens for both temp and windspeed but the sun was strong through the clouds all day and the part of the mountain we rode was sheltered from some of the wind

thats my problem with skiing, ive never had a bad fall but its so hard to send when you see so many crashes that ski patrol becomes your most used contact

Today I skied 102s on a 2+ft pow day and it was so sick being at the bottom of the snow. Skinnier skis for the win. It was soooo deep

108-112 is the most optimal size underfoot in my opinion. You still have width at both the tails and tips but still have the ability to charge groomers and chunder when it's skied out. Fully agree.

the 102s definitely get tossed around in chop but i think thats cause they're soft af
