Seen these in person, not sure how I feel about them but there’s a weird binding they go with that is like a hard plastic skeleton that goes around them as well

Yeah, apparently they also do like weird custom footbeds as well

Bootfitter roommate said he would work on my boots before skiing today and instead he's off skiing with some girl and I'm taking a break with very painful boots....

Every single chair ride:

What cracked me up is how one of them was like, we don't like the crowds though!

Like dude you are the reason there are the crowds.

Real awkward lift ride when you tell them your neighborhood is gentrified and you're gonna be homeless at one point if you dont move.

I was born in Utah, but didn't grow up in Utah. If I lived outside of Utah right now, I wouldn't be able to fly in on Ikon whenever I wanted either. I chose to make my life here, become a part of the ski community and try to contribute to it in meaningful ways that bring joy to everyone. Am I super lucky, privileged and ridiculously thankful to be able to do what I do way more than almost anyone else in the winter? Yeah. Am I also very sad when the canyons become completely overcrowded by people who don't really give a shit about the canyon or respect the mountain? Also yes. Am I angry when it is clear that nothing will be done by the people who run the mountain because they care about an ever-increasing profit margin and will actively look to overcrowd the canyon as much as possible to line their own pockets? You bet your ass I will be.

To add too bigpurps post: Yeah, this place was really fun growing-up here. I'm sorry you guys weren't able to experience it but oh well. Time to move on!

If people "didn't give a shit" LCC wouldn't be a world class ski destination. You guys gotta get out of your own heads.

By not give a shit I mean people who don't respect patrol, duck ropes before terrain is open, drive 2wd cars up the canyon on snowy days creating massive traffic jams. Also the same people who are rude to lifties, and other skiers. These people are pretty much all here on one pass product that is not local.

Ah so you and your parents made the same decisions in the 90's that you're complaining about other people make now lmao

Listen I was literally born in vail (claim) and I hate how blown out CO has been but it ain't changin any time soon. Either ski with it, make skiing prohibitively expensive for those who aren't willing to sacrifice for it, or find another pastime. I can 100% see myself riding mx in indiana or some shit as I grow older to not deal with the crowding in the rockies.

Tl;dr be the change. It sucks but what else can you do.

I get that. It happens in Boise too with Bogus, but that's not what you've been saying. Also, wouldn't the gondola solve the out of towner's with improper vehicles problem? You just gotta accept that LCC is a highly desirable place and that complexities come with that. You chose it too.

Yeah, the plan is to just ski with it. It does suck, and this year has been particularly rough for the Cottonwoods just because we do have the most snow. I don't want skiing to be prohibitively expensive for people who want to get into the sport. I just wish there were some way to spread out skier visits instead of everyone flying in with Ikon the second they see snow in the forecast on a weekend day. The best ski times now are pretty much before December, and after March.

The gondola doesn't have enough uphill capacity, parking, nor public transit to get people up the mountain efficiently in the quantities they are arriving and does nothing for the resorts other than serving to be a Disney world type of attraction to get more people to come to Little Cottonwood from out of town. It will simply move the line of traffic back from the mouth of the canyon, making it impossible to get up all day because the road will be tolled from 7-10 AM according to their plan, and it won't be open before 8 so there will be no way to get up the canyon on an avalanche control day where the road is closed because demand for the Gondola will be too high for its capacity. What needs to be done is to have a toll, but also to put in a fleet of electric buses with a massive parking structure that can ferry people in great quantities up the mountain as opposed to a Gondola that will move maybe 1000-1500 people/hr. As I recall demand for getting into little cottonwood on a busy day is somewhere between 5000-7000 so you can do the math as to what happens when everyone tries to leave the canyons at 4:00 PM

I'm not going to pretend I'm intimately aware on the traffic situation down there and it sounds like nothing is final. But by your numbers, the gondola takes 20% of the traffic load which is not an insignificant amount. I'd be more concerned about Bird and Alta getting tons of financial benefit while passing costs to taxpayers if I lived in Utah.

it's not insignificant except that the way they're lining it up, the bulk of people to ride the Gondola rather than use the road which is going to cause a major issue. And I totally agree with you on the Financial benefit situation. It's a project that is taxpayer funded to the tune of 1.4 billion dollars right now which will benefit two privately owned ski resorts.

What is the timeline now for that thing? There was a public comment period but is it for sure going on now or what? Bogus skiers talk about a gondola from Boise up and possibilities and it's been teased. I think if I'm flying solo for the day not having to drive up is worth $10-$15. That's less than gas and wear and tear on a vehicle and I don't have to drive. Make the road carpool only during peak times, all others take the gondie.

Timeline is 2024-2025 based on what I've seen. There was a public comment period but those are basically just being ignored due to the money for Udot from building it and the money for Alta and Bird from having it at the cost of taxpayers.

Skied a line with some buddies that I've been eyeing for like 10 fucking years. Was just taunting me and you can see it clearly from my local. Original plan was to take my friend touring for the first time with some chill laps but when we invited some other friends that are way more into uphill stuff we decided fuck it, ski that slide that we've all wanted to ski forever. We also took a way longer route than necessary (went all the way around the ridge rather than boot pack right up the slide) and almost ran out of daylight. The run down after the slide was fun as fuck cause it was like 5 miles of ripping down the skin track and XC trails racing back before dark.

have been noticing a buncha people who don’t know whats going on around them at LCC ski areas. these people are the ones who will get hurt and eventually lead alta bird to close fun, technical terrain because its “too dangerous”.

Went skiing yesterday and it was great. Forgot how much I missed it.

Got major toe bang and now I'm hobbling around with black toenails on my big toes. Less great.

Unfortunately everywhere is like this now. I lived in slc 10+ years ago out of hs and the preemptive boom then was pretty obvious. Everywhere in the pnw has become a tourist destination as well. Montana,Wyoming and even Idaho are starting to seem overrun with the geriatric bullshit with the influx of right wingers moving to those states in recent years which has made trips and lift rides there highly entertaining. Unfortunately I feel like moving back east would make life easier sometimes, no silly powder panic for a few inches creating hours of traffic, the east coast community is significantly more tight knit, and goddamn do I miss a rope tow. /end rant

anyone know if i can just epoxy my old binding holes or will they crack and fall out? I'm in a time crunch and don't have plugs.

Make sure everything is dry and around room temp, not cold. You should be good with epoxy. Maybe use a tad less hardener and really let it cure for a while before flexing or vibrating the ski. As always, GFlex Marine Epoxy is based

Park City Powder Cats had a fatality in a avalanche today. Will be very curious to read a report on that.
