Ok, so there's some problems with the site... how do we change it?

Ok well I don't really have time right now to say everything that I want tosay so here goes. I love NS just because there's no site like it, it's just... NS. But i would like to say if you look at some other forums there mods are amazing. I'm not saying what you guys don't do isn't amazing but come on. Do your job sometimes. It gets out of hand and all you have to do is click "delete" I think if mods got stricter NS would improve a great amount...

I hate how I was banned, and haven't gotten a reason yet. I hate how people just post "search bar" to legitimate questions. Sure, they should use the search bar, but why don't you be a good NS member and help them out.

2)What are 3 suggestions to fix what you hate?

The hate will always be there, it's a fact of life. But a reward system for those who don't post hate could be instated, and would help the situation.

3)What do you love about NS?

I love how so many skiers are on here. If I see some sick kid doing steezy 5's in a park, I could probably find him within an hour on Newschoolers. If you're ever going to an unfamiliar hill, you can always find someone to ride with.

The others were covered in those pretty much.

I strongly dislike all of the trash that comes through on the main forums. Though a lot of posts are helpful or interesting, over half the time you are just going to get trash. It especially makes me angry when somebody starts a topic asking for help or for a genuine opinion and all they get is "you're gay" or "Search Bar". I guess it's mostly that so many members are really very immature.

2)What are 3 suggestions to fix what you hate?

a. Maybe there should be a post limit per day or hour? If it's really all that important for somebody to post 100 times in one day, I'm sure those ideas should be just as valid the next day.

b. Deleting post count for sure. Don't replace it with anything, just get rid of it.

c. Revoking posting priveledges after somebody has crossed the line or has simply posted too much stupid stuff. I don't know if this would be member directed or moderator directed or what, but I think it would work. You could even assign a certain number of members separate from Mods to do this.

d. I know this is 4, but it might be a good idea to just delete all of the older threads. I know they are precious and fun to look at, but it's obnoxious when people bring back pointless old threads.

3)What do you love about NS?

I love being able to hear about all of the skiing news whether is competitions, films, new gear or whatever. The Regional Forums give me news on what is going on at my hill or nearby hills. The picture section is good cause I like looking at other peoples' skiing pictures.

4)What could happen to make it even better?

Honestly, if the hate stopped I would be happy. The news section is great.

a. I kind of already said it, but temporarily taking posting priveledges away from people who are causing the havoc would be a huge change. If they get them taken away enough times, then ban them.

b. Allow members to delete their own threads or posts. This way if they realize they posted something dumb, they can just fix it on their own.

c. Delete anything that crosses the line and if the member complains about it, then temporarily revoke posting priveledges.

6)Comment your brains out on everything you need to see changed on the site, so that you never say "NS sucks, I'm leaving" again.

I think I've said it all. I like how things are, I just completely avoid the main forums for the most part which is sad because I used to like them.

well theres always the ban option... but for the rest, i think shit should have to go through doug first, or something because aliases piss me off to no extent.so yeah i think there should be something to like see if the person has the same IP as someone else? i duno im no computer wizz but that might help.

I just realized that mods couldnt simply, ban everyone and have like a block on certain things for threads, because when you think about it, NS is actually really tight knit. Not many other things on the net i have found where everyone is so connected to everyone and isn't afraid to just get right into things.
 
I think that there needs to be a cut back in members, we are getting up near 80,000 people now. The elimination of members would be determined by how they interact with others on here. But i hope something will work because i dont know how much longer i'm going to be on here.
 
soem things id have to agree with is get rid of the whole post count and add date of joining. expand video legnth, make forum icons a little bigger, regular picture sizes are fine. delete some of the useless posts, add age into profile (thers been too many threads about how old are you.) i like the ide of an aoutmatic message to the new people w/ tips and stuff. for banning people i think you should do for a certin period of time depending on what they did wrong, if they continue doing it, bann htrem longer or permanenetly ban the like ip ban or somethign. thats about it for me and if i think of something else, ill post it

1. ya the ability to delete your own thread is a good idea.

2. what about a dislike/trash count. For example, like everyone's Karma ideas, but for individual posts. Just have a trash icon with each one. If the post is "trash" or useless, then the user clicks trash, if the post gets say 40 trashes by different users, then it gets deleted.

3. I could totally agree with harsher mods. people should shut up with their freedom of speech crap, quit whining. If you posted crap and nobody wants to hear about it then your post deserves to be deleted. If it didn't deserve it, who cares, is it the end of the world ?

Also, as a side note, a lot of people get riled up when they don't need to. Like me for example, I dont come on NS to stir shit up ever. I like offering honest advice and opinions. Every once in a while someone will rip on me for something I said, insinuating I offended them purposefully with my post. People need to be cool and chill.

In all truth NS forums really aren't that bad, evolution is inevitable (i agree with everyone that previously stated this), you can't rewind time to the good ol days. Something should be done though to moderate the forums a little, if I saw my 1,2, and 3 paragraphs done there'd prolly be a huge difference. (lol, sometimes NS is like a whiny woman, I typed that and realized I had to explain myself cause too many of you would take it the wrong way and whine about it like little girls assuming and telling me that my opinion isnt the best and I need to consider everyone else's lol) So to shortly explain myself, I mean changes in general, they dont have to be MY 3 because I think they're the best or something lol, just give anything/something a try. I just see the three i stated working out decently.

sheesh, lighten up folks. Skiing's sexy, NS is too.

I didnt read through the whole thread because its long but i had an idea of how to improve the amount of bs that comes outta people.

Its kinda like the karma idea. But say that everyone has like a five star rating in their profile. And everyone gets to choose the rating they want to give that person(if they feel like even rating it at all) and u can only give a person one rating. Like if I give someone 4-stars then they will have a 4-star rating from me until i change it. Then if a bunch of people give the person a high rating then they will have a good reputation and people will be able to tell that they contribute positive shit to the site. If someone has like 0 stars then they could still say shit but everyone would know not to listen to em cuz theyre a douche. The persons reputation could appear under their name in the forums and in their profiles.

I have a serious suggestion. I've been on this site for many years now, and its obvious the problem is the forums. What may help is putting a rating next to everyone's name based on how helpful or informative they are.

In this way, people will be less inclined to act like an idiot, since everyone will be able to see their rating and thus, if they have a lower rating, they will be treated accordingly. I think this could help alot, as it would encourage people to be curteous and helpful, rather than moronic and offensive. Just a suggestion.
 
i agree with taking away the post count...instead maybe put where they live like east coast, midwest, west coast...etc.etc.etc.
 
the problem with people saying use the search bar needs to stop because times change and the subject somebody is talking about could have changed over time
 
Instead of putting in more mods we could hire one person (something like a hitman) to locate flamers and lay down a WWE style smackdown. that'll learn em!

I mean I've became good friends with a lotta kids on this site and i think thats super cool you can meet kids you would have never have met if it wasn't for Ns. I love how you can speak your mind and post your videos and pictures to share with others

for some reason (i dont talk shit at all, at least not as much as others) but 3 or 4 of my screennames have been deleted and it is annoying cos they last like a month each... what is the deal w/ this?

1) i dont know if there is anything i hate about ns, though in the vids its normally.....thats sick or u suck....

seriously ive always been able to get over all the trash talk. The only thing that really pisses me off is one some says to use to search bar. THe fuck does he care for?? If someone has a question why dont u just answer it instead of typing a search bar! Ns is a place to help n get help for me.

Im not quite sure ow to fix though apart from the members rating system which would be dope. I Also agree on the post count stuff. It's not because u have more posts that ur the shit. The idea of putting stuff like Qc, midwest and stuff like that is pretty cool
 
how about every member must fill out an agreement telling everyone how they should and shouldnt behave. Once this quick survey/questionaire is completed thier account is activated. If they create more than 10 posts that must be modded or deleted, their account goes into suspension.

Or in other words, tell every kid to grow the fuck up.
 
I have been a member on ns since late september, but i have only really gotten in too it recently. I would agree that some changes need to be made. Most of the treads that become massize hate fest, but in the begining it was just a thread of someones opinon and then people says "newb and STFU". I think that people have to learn to accept there are different aspects of freesking, and certain people like different things, and there no reason to make fun of them. I do agree with John Spriggs, that you Bishop shouldn't be the one making threads that encourage people to talk shit. I would love to see people getting booted off for creating a lot of hate threads. Thats all i have to say good luck with the site.
 
ya true i dont think bbishop should be talking about stoping the hate when he makes a forum hateing the switch ten...(witch is a dope trick)
 
pretty much the best idea ever!

i think we should gave a rating out of 5 stars on our name, and other members can each vote once on our quality of contributions in the forums, etc. if it gets really low, mods can warn them that they will be banned, and if it keeps up, then ban them, after a certain amount of people have voted, say 100 or so.

Goodbye all and thanks for the good times. NS is inevitably doomed to failure because of all the bad attitudes around and people who have nothing to say but insist on saying it in the rudest and most inflammatory manner. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope that there are no hard feelings here. Honestly though, there is nothing that NS can do to stop the attitude. It is a fundamental attitude problem that will eventually destroy this site.

i doubt this will work, but maybe have different forums for different levels of tha rating system i talked about a few posts up, like if you click on ski gabber, it will take you to one of the 3 ski gabbers, all having seperate levels of ns members. that way, if all you want to do is talk shit, you can go waste your posts over in the low level forums. just an idea. or, have seperate cults that you are assigned to, and the higher level cults can look at all of them, where the bottom level ones are restricted. then the higher level cult grand masters {maybe mods, or very responsible members} can nominate them to "graduate" to a higher level cult, opening up more forums. perhaps this will somewhat filter the shit to stay on the bottom level. and, you can be demoted if you keep start being an inconsiderate bastard posting useless shit at any time. that way, you dont have to just ban them, you can still let them do what they want, but it will be in a seperate forum that everyone else who are better members wont bother going to. that way, you can still use ski gabber, but at a higher level without reding through pages of worthless posts. wow, that was alot of typing.
 
i find it funny that some of the biggest shit talkers reply to this thread and say the shit talking needs to stop.... they should read their own posts

just out of curiosity why do you need to see pics, ive been skiing for 17 yrs and i have like maybe 2 or 3 pics of me actually skiing, if you have the ability to have your little minions follow you everywhere to take your pics and make you feel cool then good for you but i personally would rather ski all day then spend time posing for pics

More content, i liked the NS Journalist connection or whatever it was idea. It kind of died. Allow kids to earn Karma points for writing stories and posting pics and video from events.

thats cool bro i was just curious cause being in my situation with no pics and shit i know theres others and i know when i came here i didnt know shit about newschool and i learned alot from this site and i thinkk its good for the sport to have the new kids have the same resources
 
another problem with ns and the internet in general. when ppl type something it does not mean they are completely serious about it. if we were it would be, well, completely boring!
 
people need to realize that talking shit over the internet is not "badass" its probably the most pussy thing to do.....ever

usually it is only said to someone being a dink or someone who has blatantly posted something to piss people off. or sometimes, it is because it has been posted billions of times, like the one day that 500 new members joined and all of them started similar threads on the x games slopestyle being switched to a big air
 
create separate forums, similar to the way there's ski gabber, non-ski gabber, etc etc, for people who want to talk serious, or just clown around. if someone goes into the serious forum and posts something stupid, ban their ip and they'll never be allowed on ns again. after this happens a few times, people will start to get the message. sort of like the way our judicial system works. i say we need to start killing people who break the law. it'll set a good example for future criminals.
