Ok, so there's some problems with the site... how do we change it?

yea new people should have to earn it.

not sure what "it" is besides respect. maybe let ANYONE delete a new account's psot for the first two weeks or soemthing, or not let them post.

if you let new accounts not post for the first two weeks aliases would be eilinated too.
 
As far as the "Gaper" or "Unmoderated" forum idea goes, I think it is a bad idea. I don't think that we should have to lower ourselves to that level. We have to fix the problem, not shovel it off to a different corner of the site.

I agree with JD that the Karma system is unlikely to work. I have not seen it done myself, but have heard about it, and I agree with the statement that most of this site is young and immature to make a karma system viable. Ryno, it would be wonderful if we could judge people by the value of their posts. I hate seeing a thread with half the posts saying "lol" or "thats awesome dude", it provides no positive contribution to the site.

And Doug, JD is the only one saying that you guys have to be harder and more ruthless on Moderation. A lot of us have be saying that for a long time. The GW award was created to be harsh, but a short time ago our words were Moderated because they were "too harsh". You have to kick more ass here, that's the only language retards understand. Ass-kicking. And if you need help doing it, there are still many people on here who are both willing and qualified to do so.
 
NS is absolutley amazing. major props out to whoever works on this. nothing could be better about this site. maybe less hate, but lets all be man enough and just ignore the ignorant people who post lame or just stupid things. it would be cool it we could get them just off the site so noone has to waste time reading them but if thats not reality. were not 5 years old anymore... well some of us obviously not all of us... ignore the stupid things, get rid of their useless comments and lets get this site back to the way it was when it started. by skiers for skiers about skiing.
 
^im fine with how it is, im just getting annoyed with all the hate threads, we could add a new gabber called the "What Grinds my Gears" or something
 
why wouldn't you shovel all the annoying, repetitive, "how do i do a 360" threads off to a moderated part of the site where people won't get shat on and can get a useful response?

these annoying threads just clutter up the main forum and distract from the original/useful threads. it would make ski gabber better and allow people to get help without fear of being made fun of. seems to kill two birds with one stone to me.

(to clarify: i just want the addition of another forum and to not chanve any other part of the site)

When people say "search bar" or "i think i like the search bar the best" its just annoying because its just as fast for those people to give the answer rather then saying use the search bar.

Also, this has nothing to do with the site, but i cant watch movies because my flash player is broken.

I dont really have any suggestions.

I like how 'I' can make a thread and people dont flame me. I am really new to the whole freeskiing and skiing in general and when i ask about tricks, what type of skis to get, most of the time im not afraid to ask.

4)What could happen to make it even better?

Maybe have f.a.q.'s on what kind of skis are good for this, how to do certain tricks. Like in ski equipment, the ski sizing thing and the type of bindings and stuff. That really helped me.

5)Give 3 reasonable suggestions for how to stop the hate and shit-talking in the forums.

Encourage people to use the report feature more (if there is one) and give temp bans to people who get to many negative things said about them.

6)Comment your brains out on everything you need to see changed on the site, so that you never say "NS sucks, I'm leaving" again.

I wish there were more skins for the site.
 
i do agree that you should be able to express your opinion and everybody does. However i think in that thread you were not just targetting the Switch ten, but more so the people that do ie pros. Thats what i have against that thread.

I hate how people take newschoolers too seriously.i hate how people arent open minded. i hate how peole belive what they read and dont think about the legitamacy of anything. i hate how people think that they know whats going on in the ski industry or know how a certain pro/product/company/mountain is because of what they read. It is hard to differentiate between someone who is making up stuff and someone who is being truthful. i hate how people are assholes. i hate the badwagon effect... omg omg the switch 10, ninthward, tanner hall all suck because of and then everyone copies everone and beleives it. i hate the nature of the internet because anyononmos posters who can say anything and get away with it. i hate how this site has too much power over people opinions on skiing related things.

SHUT THE SITE DOWN, for a month or little while and see if people react by being more respectful and greatful when the site is back up, if not then shut the site down forever(or turn it into an online magazine), a stupid website isnt worth ruining the sport over.

i like how you can promote yourself,comps, or events that are going on and i like the video/(SKI)picture section. i also like the pictures and stories on the main page because you get different pictures then the freeskier site and more is better!

perhaps turning ns into a legit online magazine . . . that way people will still come here for information because of how popular the site already is and their wont be bullshit that you have to weed through to get to the good (legit) stuff. there is so much you can do with an online magazine while still making it interactive and im sure a lot of people would help to make it happen. you could keep the video/picture section up and still do so much to make this site interesting useful and truthful.

its inevitable considering the nature of the internet and how big this site has gotten, unless you take down the forums

I'm saying that we shouldn't create an addition forum just for idiots because we shouldn't have to. If we fix the problems we won't have the idiots at all. Why create something for people to talk shit and post useless shit? Why not just stop it?
 
Well that makes more sense then. A novice or new members forum was something I called for (under the guise of a "FAQ Forum") on the first. So good on ya, I agree.

I totaly agree with him this would be great. In the little time i have been here i have gotin alot of shit from people, maybe getting rid of that is whats best.

So let me get this straight. You don't seem to like me because my bindings aren't very good, and I don't care about this site because I haven't donated? I wasn't aware that was a prerequisite.

And I think a New Members/FAQ Forum would be useful because the original threads would be created by the Admins/Mods with contributions from everyone else. People who have been here for a while would contribute because they would like to see less clutter and repetative threads in the main forums. And by the way, just because people are new to this site does not mean they can't ski or offer trick tips.

I think that the post counter is not a good thing for the site. Some kids will get on here and just post random, useless information just to get thier post count up. And then their are the other kids who make judgments on how much a kid knows about skiing just by the number of posts he or she has made. This suggestion is not going to change the site a whole lot and make it good again, but i think it is a step that would help.
 
my absolutel last post on this: if you don't donate then you have nothing to really say about how this site is run.

we all donate....site improves. new mods site improves. these are my suggestions.

you should get rid of the post count and have how many hours the person has been on the website then in the profile have how many post the person has and i think that if you could get more mods or even lower level mods to get ride of some of the shit like the extremely pointless threads like poop and jea just little things will make this site even better

I have a small complaint about this site.

I can ignore the people who are simply out to insult other peoples videos, saying they can do better. I can ignore the people who sit around and make fun of each others moms.

I cannot ignore the people who are ignorant enough to call things "gay" or "retarded". I cannot ignore the people who call someone else a "fag". It is the most uneducated and ignorant thing to call someone. Now, the most troubling thing is that if people are writing this to each other, then they most likely also use it in everyday speech which makes me really sad.

Its 2006 and I thought people would educate themselves on decency but I guess not. Other than that, I love watching videos, getting news etc.

i have always liked newschoolers, ever since i joined on my first account a few years ago. i have met new friends, and made new enemies (unfortunately) and all in all had a good time but i notice that shit talking has taken over. every new member is considered a n00b because everyone thinks they are an alias for another account already made just trying to insult people, this is wrong. everyone should be treated equally and the shit talking, none of which should be tolerated, and banning decisions should be left to admins, not everyday members. i think a positive change to the site would be for you, doug, to take off the post count and thats stuff because people are posting random shit , and being considered post whores, just to up their count. thanks

personally i thought manipulating NS to publicize your movie (using with multiple names, and shitting on everyone else's movies) was rediculous and did not see it addressed by teh admins. Second you defended yourself completely irrationally. I would show you how rediculous your comments were and you would start complaining about how immuture people were making fun of you, when it was completely justified because you acted reidulous and then when you were confronted you hypocritically claimed we were abusing NS.

personally i am not for a karma or strike system becasue i beleive they can be abused especially with aliases (something YOU did). but i do beleive the mods have to confront flagrant, chronic retards of thsi site (dspin7x, tosh for a period, you etc.) people who abuse the site do not belong here
 
i dont know any other site out there where you can get this much info on skiing let alone alot of other sports
