Ok, so there's some problems with the site... how do we change it?

this site is gret u guys do a awsome job....but ui can stop the assholes who come one here....skiing is about improving and getting better....y mock someone for not being good....if they are cocky and suck i can c y...but poeple are mocking peple for not being good...thats gay...no one was bord being able to do cork 7's and shit....u gotta learna nd other people are more gifted then others....ns is a great site....its the assholes are ruining it....and u cant ban some one for being a asshole so what evere it sucks...bu i guess i something u gotta live wiht
 
Didn't read many posts, but something that would answer a few problems would be to grant more power to mods to delete threads and pretty much anything else they find offensive and put those items into a seperate forum which unless specifically looked for, wouldn't be seen by any members. But it also wouldn't stop people from looking at it via their "my threads" tool, or from searching in the trash forum for it.

Another obvious answer would be to increase the number of mods.
 
NO that is the wronge thing to do... you should not delete any of the threads especially just for having companys names in the title of the thread... only delete stuff that wuld be illegal to have on the site with kids on it. argueing and shit talking is just part of free speach and its sick to have an open forum just for talking about skiing
 
All the shit talking is what's making the site bad. If you just moved it to a different forum. Remove it from the ski gabber forum and put it in the trash talking forum. That way, there is no censorship, but it doesnt ruin the site for everyone else.
 
you obviously haven't read any either...the mods already have the power...and free speech is exactly what they are about to say "fuck you" too...you want your freedom of speech forum, go somewhere else.
 
ns is a lost cause soley because we make it that way, yes, we are the problem.

my only suggestion is to add forum categories by age......15 and under, 16-18, 18-21, 21-25, and then 25+
 
wait, i have another suggestion......

mods, completely eliminate the forum board for two weeks. Then, reopen it with the stipulation that if thins go back to the way they are it will be shut down again.

By the end of two weeks all the addicts will need there fix, and maybe keep it clean.

Its like a time out ha ha
 
Replacing post count with member number won't help the noob thing. People will just look a tthe member number to see if the member is new or old.

How about a military style ranking system instead of post count, where like karma, members rate how useful peoples posts/threads are, and whether they think they are making a positive or negative contribution to the site. Next to the avatar could be a military style badge, which increases or decreases in seniority (?) depending on how other members view them. Also the court idea is a good one.
 
I think that all these people that are leaving ns and complaining should just suck it up. Im not what you would call one of those "core" members on here but ive been here for at least a year and over that period of time I have seen many of these Im leaving this shit threads. Honestly I dont think ns has changed that much and I still think it is a good place to get info on different topics or just have fun. Sure there are the people that always feel the need to put people and their skill levels down to make themselves feel good. The only thing you can do is just ignore theses people, because all of us are here for one reason, and that is skiing. And if you really feel that you need to leave a forum, just cause new members are joining or because you cant handle what other people say , maybe you really should, but just dont make such a huge deal out of it.
 
make it just that little bit easier to navagate thats the only down fall, and have a "photo of the month or week compotition." in which we vote on the best unsponsored persons picture. then us users vote on the best chose by the admins or mods. and the one that gets the most votes can be used as the login page photo for a month or week. but only run them a few times. so we dont always have pros. cause lets be honest i like to know someone useing the site is getting some glory. not the pros that will prob only come on 1-2 times a month.

Bring back Birthdays or member of the month. Those were fun. I remember having random people send me happy birthday messages when I first joined.
 
In a way, it is fixing the problem. As we have seen in society, people arent nice, and especially when they can hide behind the veil of something else. Banning I.P.s would be a good idea if you wanted to eliminate trouble makers, but if you think about it these people could be contributing with positive posts at times too. I think if you moderated the main forums and temp banned I.P.s from the main forums when things got too heated/out of control, and left the Gaper or Trash Talk forum alone, people would learn to be civil in the better forums. and for the people who want no part of it, you dont have to deal with it... just stay away from the unmoderated forums.

--the frequent use of the "search bar" for threads that already exist. the way the post counts make u a n00b or not. I think that if there wasnt any post counts then the hate and the word n00b would slowly detirierate(sp)

--no more post counts even though i like having it. maybe instead of that just having punishment for beeing mean

--since i love almost every part i would have to say the videos and pics are up their along with the threads that have meaning in the ski gabber

NS is a wicked site but if you get rid of the post counter then there will be less useless posts. Also i dont know if it is a NS problem or if my new comp is just messed but i had to make a whole new account because for some reason the one i had for like 5 years stoped working. its a little beside the point but we need to realize that there will always be shit talking 13year olds who have nothing else better to do.

I don't like it when someone tells someone to use the search bar, because if everyone did that the kids that are on here 24/7 would have nothing to talk about or do.

So don't bash the kid who could have used the search bar, just help him out and be nice about it, and I think dissing people and crood jokes are funny but should only be used on certain occasions, and if one happens to be about or aimed at u take that shit like a G.I. and live with it pussy.

I pretty much love NS for the most part, and the things i dislike, are inevitable, and constantly happening. Sorry i'm not following the little format of answering questions, but these are my comments.

ONE thing i dislike are the constant "What skis should i get" thread.. You can't eliminate them, so it doesn't matter. I also hate the "MY skis broke!!!" when they have a dimple on their base, or top sheet chipping. And with that, goes the intense dissing of other companies. Like, people buy a brand of ski, then they decide they'll totally knock any other ski out there, even if they haven't skied them. IT just gives some companies a bad rep, when people are constantly putting down there product, for no reason. LAME.

Other than that, i love NS. it's such a good source of Info in the industry, and honesty progresses my skiing. i'll hear about something on here, or see a video, and go do it. thanks.
 
The first couple of times I posted something on this site I got ragged on to the max, therefor I dont post pictures or videos anymore.
 
how about a sort of cult that you limit to members that always cause shit. that way they have can all post in there.

and maybe let them out after a few days.
 
to the person who said somthin about the ignore list, thats a good idea except evedryonce adn awhile they might come up with something good.

to the person who said the picture of hte month idea, i think that is a good idea, and there are pictures of people on ns after you sign on and come to the home page then scroll down that picture changes.

to the person with the age idea, that is a horrible idea, then younger people i.e. me , or others cant ask questions adn get answers from older people that might know what their doin.

HUmmm....stoppping hate.....je ne sais pas. I think a member karma rating system would be good, then you could just ignor people wiht low karma. The picture and video rating system should be made easier, since many people don't rate vid's and pics. Possible somehting liek on sb.com where you just click the stars, or somethhing. But it could be somehting iller, liek clicking how mnay uber cool skiers it is.....ooorrr like you have 5 pics of skiers ( silhowets) and they start off looking really dorky and stuff, and then get more steezy as you get closer to a dope picture. i donnno if that makes sense to you....but yeah. PIIIIIIICE those are my thoughts of the moment.
 
i think if we added a rating system for peoples posts that would be really helpfull. this would only work though if members were only allowed one account per IP adress. that way there wouldn't be inflating of their ratings.

temporary bans sound like a good idea. it would be crucial that different penalties were listed on its own dedicated page so that when someone was temp-banned then they wouldn't be able to complain in the forums. another idea is that when people are in a thread they could vote on the content of the thread like 1-10 scale. that way the mods could look at the low rated threads and decide whether they should be deleted or not.

i dont want to beat a dead horse but the searchbar really needs to be improved so that the search sifts through the body of the threads instead of just the title and gives them a significance rating based on the words searched.

It would be a good idea to get rid of the post count below members names. you don't have to put anything in its place. if people want to know about the person in question they can go to their profile, see all their info, and possibly rating based on post content.

multiple video posts should be deleted because i can't tell you how many times i've seen a video being reposted 3 or 4 times and it gets kind of old.

the ability for members to moderate the posts on their pictures and videos would be a good idea that way hate could be erased so we wouldn't see as much. the rating system could be used more to show videos or pictures as being terrible or good instead of people posting "you're ugly" or "that looked like crap". it would just promote less hate and would make people offer more constructive criticism because they wouldn't be given the satisfaction of people seeing their posts.

all that being said i do think you guys do a good job with the site. but like everything there's things that can and need to be improved upon. i hope some of this helps.

i'm glad that you are asking for opinions. it is great to see that we can have input into the site that we use so much and that you care enough to ask.
 
this is amazing....i cant even read all of it but what ive read all seem like good ideas.....also not a big change or anything just throwin it out...a trick tip forum...would be nice...so that people wouldnt have to get invited to cults or post anywhere else...something everyone can actsess(sp horribly wrong i know)...

another idea...thrown onto the table along with so many others...a magazine would be a great idea to bring in money...im sur ejust about everyone would subscribe to it...i would defintely...

should be interesting for the changes that come out of this
