Official Tahoe Thread

Anyone hike Mt. Rose summit yet this summer? it's incredible. Just did it for the first time myself a few weeks ago

this week has been ridiculous with the gapers. took me over an hour to get from tahoe vista to squaw today. Thinking about driving all the way around through truckee and over 267 to get to work tomorrow cause the traffic going from squaw to TC every day is backed up almost to big bear each day. SUCKS

yeah the amount of people in tahoe is absurd right now.

on another not, anyone play disc golf? i've been playing like every other day and i need someone else to play with

sup.

im going to apply for the application specialist at squaw valley...right now i'm in the same position at a different mountain so it's not like i'm new to the ski industry.

has anybody here worked for squaw? how is the management? approve/disapprove? living situations?

I've worked for squaw as a lifeguard the past 3 summers in the guest services department. It seems like kind of a shit show at times but for the most part it wasn't too bad. definitely improving though, imo

for anyone thinking about moving to tahoe and having doubts. FUCKING DO IT. my buddy and i drove out from NY not knowing anyone no job anything but the people in tahoe are so awesome everything will fall into place. and be the sickest time of your life.

expect to pay about ~$500 for a room (which isn't bad if you ask me). I've lived in squaw for the past year and a half and my rent has been in the $450-585 range, not including utilities. i know a lot of people who have cheaper rent, while some have higher...just depends on the house and location and how many roommates you wanna have.

but can't complain...deciding to move to tahoe, specifically squaw valley, has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made.

word. sounds like an awesome place even if it's california :D

yeah, I'll be looking for a house/condo/apartment for myself. the job is year-round full time so i can't be dealing with flaky roomates, parties, etc etc. i'm 25 and have been dealing with roomate bullshit since i was 18...i'm over it. i'm willing to pay extra for peace and quiet after working all day. shit i sound like an old man.

is the closest airport reno? where do people fly in/out of? what's the drive to reno like? sacremento?

i'll be submitting my CL/resume today so hopefully things go well.

I hear that. I've had some interesting roommates since moving to tahoe. hopefully in the fall I will start having only 1 roommate which will be nice. just keep looking around and eventually stuff pops up.

reno is the closest airport. bout 45 to town, hourish to the airport. sac is 90ish min away, drive isn't bad if the weather is good...you just cruise downhill into the valley. coming up is a climb....you gain 5000ft in a matter of miles. reno isn't too bad but the road is a little windy and tight in spots. small climb from reno-tahoe. both of course often have controls during the winter and can close down at times. and they're full of terrible drivers from the bay.

Rose and northstar are the best ones to work at. Rose has drastically lower pay, but it's like a family up there and it's probably the most fun resort to work for. They are also pretty lenient on hours

Mt rose doesn't, northstar does. I think northstar starts you off at around 12 an hour. Rose will start you at minimum. It really just depends which resort you're at I suppose

Stoked to see everyone loves the Tahoe region so much. I got a job at Squaw for the winter and have been looking at housing. Just wanted to sent out a bulletin if anyone is looking to get an apartment and needs a roommate i'm definitely in the market for a place, or to find a place with someone. I'm a 22 year old guy, just graduated college on the east coast at UVM. Definitely down for whatever, really open to anything people have in mind. Let me know if you're interested or need a roommate . Cheers.

thx, got a second one monday. the job is full-time year round so might be making the perma-move to tahoe...all looks promising.

lots to think about

I do grooming, snow making and terrain park maintenance at rose and it's a pretty relaxed environment , The owners don't give a fuck about the parks though. I try not to ride there unless its a powder day because the park is such a joke but if you get a job we should shred.

I scanned at Kirkwood last year, just Saturdays and Sundays! Might do it again this year, only Saturdays though!

Worked at Flatstar last season, they start you at 8.25, but then again I was a lifty. Now I'm a lead lifty at Squaw!

Anyone worked at North Star park crew? I got the job yesterday(super stoked).

What's it like there? Are they chill? Any tips?

i heard they never do any work, so that'll be chill on your end. i've skied full days at northstar and only seen the park crew a couple times. they're presence is not really there

but thats just what i hear.

did you join the winter sports club? i talked with them but i didn't like how skiing wasn't its own club and they just kinda threw everything together

anyone coming out to squaw tonight for shane's movie? should be a good time. plus a band after (even though I might be frozen by that point).

I've been meaning to shoot them an email. The disorganized style is what you're gonna get with any west coast college ski club, with everything sort of thrown together. The main reason I want to join is I hear that you can get a $300 Squaw college pass through the club and it's just a good way to meet people to carpool and ski with.

to Sugarloaf: I'll be there! Going to head over around 6:00 or so.

Yo I'm tryna get on the winter sports club too but not too stoked with how hard it is to contact ANYONE. Used to be on the UO Snow team at Oregon and transfered down to lap squallywood and b-real parks again. Would be sick to get a crew together cause i hear theres not many park rats on the team...

yeah thats exactly what i was thinking. it didnt sound like park skiing was a big part of it when i briefly spoke to them
