Maybe $4500? It's a nice build, with some weird weaknesses, so I think that realm is reasonable.

14446768:foolmetwice said:
Appreciate ya! What would you say the weaknesses are?

Nothing on it is "bad" at all, but there are just a few components that aren't really "dream build" level, and stand out. Guide brakes are pretty shitty, even the RS version. Like, they're fine, but I'd upgrade to Codes or something else, long before I upgraded my drivetrain from GX to XO1. Especially on a long travel bike like this. Similarly, that crankset is fine, but is at a lower level than the drivetrain/suspension. Also, why does he list crank boots that aren't in the pictures, and aren't necessary on aluminum cranks?

I don't understand why he doesn't list the suspension, it's Fox factory, obviously, but the lack of any mention of it makes me wonder if it's ever been serviced. Finally, that KORE handlebar is weird and scary. Its probably fine, but I would never run a weird sketchy third party handlebar. Would recommend swapping as soon as you get it.

None of those are like, big red flags, they're just little details that make me question the "dream build" of it all, and thus, paying "dream build" prices for it.

Brutal honesty: Not worth it. Here's why I say that:

1: No warranty. You're the second owner, Evil won't help you if you break something. You'd have to convince the original owner to convince Evil he still owns it and have him do the whole warranty process for you. Total PITA. He might not even be down to lie for you, in which case you're 100% up a creek without a paddle. I always recommend buying new for the warranty. No bike is 100% bomb-proof / accident-proof.

2: Evils break. Two guys in my squad ride/used to ride Evils. They break. Like multiple times a season if you're a really aggressive rider. Front triangles, chainstays, etc. Seen it happen several times at this point, I wouldn't buy one if it was my own money. They look sick and ride sick, but is that truly worth the downsides they come with?

3: That build has a few weak points that others have already pointed out. Won't waste your time there.

4: Geometry is already outdated. Bikes have been evolving insanely fast over the past few years. Sucks, but it's true.

Way better options out there for 5K.

For instance:

- Transition Spire

- Transition Patrol

- Commencal Meta AM or SX

- Commencal Clash (my current bike)

- Fezzari Lasal Peak (probably my next bike)

Brands I personally shop from / stand behind:

- Commencal

- Transition

- Giant (best carbon frame warranty in the industry, no long travel bikes through, would have to adjust the shock on a Reign to increase travel to fit the bill. Easily done, my buddy loves his modded Reign.)

- And pretty much any brand with lifetime frame warranty and solid crash replacement program.

Brands I personally avoid:

Canyon - bad support

YT - bad support

Evil - break a lot

Specialized - (personal opinion, hate working on them)

At the end of the day, I always recommend buying new. Take the hit on component spec for now. Everything drivetrain-related is a consumable part that will need replacing down the road. You can always upgrade to nicer parts later as stuff wears out. Feel free to hit me up via message or on IG if you have any other questions.

Seller is smoking crack. I would avoid this one.

Good bike but paying over 4 grand for a nearly 5 year old bike is stupid regardless of the spec imo, bike tech and design progresses too fast for that

yep, screw Evil. Over complicated suspension design that barely achieves anything and is downright heavy. Plus I have never heard one good thing about their customer service.

If you're really interested I have some Rocky Mountain Instinct C50's in the shop I'd sell at a friend discount. That'd get you the full warranty and everything, and I really do enjoy who I work with at Rocky Mountain, great company.

To Evil's credit, they've been good with getting my buddy replacement Offering parts very quickly. In the mail same-day type of quick. Unfortunately it happens relatively often. I heard they used to be way worse about it, but have improved.

I just found another way to be fat but pretending to be badass, by lifting up and biking down Vail. Am hooked tho just got my gear. Get to hang with my winter ski bros in summer now for mtn biking. Stoked! Even my other fat friend who i thought only touches ebikes got himself a summer pass too.

way cooler than golf

really appreciate the feedback bois. Did not pull the trigger. Was trying to talk him down to $3500 but he wasn’t feelin it. Worked out for the best though because in the meantime I’ve found three borderline too good to be true bikes that I’m gonna buy for the price of one, just gonna have to make a bit of a road trip. Not gonna link to the actual adds because these deals r too dank and I’m worried someone will try to swoop in ahead of me but they are:

-2015 Cannondale Jekyll carbon 2 in good condition for $1000https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Cannondale/Jekyll-27-5-Carbon-2,14520

-2016 Niner Jet9 RDO (carbon) (xx1 drivetrain) excellent condition for $1700https://www.feedthehabit.com/mountain-biking/review-2016-niner-jet-9-rdo-4-star/

Gonna have to start hittin some xc races

-2021 trek slash 9.8 xt (carbon) excellent condition for $2500

https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Trek/Slash-9-8-XT,31340

please please please don’t try to find these bikes just lemme have this win

the slash got flagged as a scam on pinkbike /: I had my suspicions. Headed down to Iowa rn though to pick up the Niner xc bike and then up north tmrw to pick up the cannondale. Then will take my time looking for a good deal on a well specd enduro

Entering a DH race. Course is my favorite trail and I’ll probably get destroyed by the competition but I still fuckin love that trail so it’ll be fun

Think I finally got my dh bike running good. Too many brake and tire issues lately. Hoping to replace the goofy lookin red wheel sometime, but for now it works lol

Does anyone own anything from Rapha on here? Curious about their road/gravel stuff more than mtb since all I have is a old ass Jersey and some falling apart Lycra shorts. Just tryna find some comfy road gear that isn’t bright pink or neon shorts like at the bike shops around here

Hit Thunder over the weekend. Got tipped off about some lowkey chutes that were insanely gnarly and exposed. Absolutely bonkers, those made the trip honestly, steepest runs I've ever sent. Dub diamond tech was absolutely firing. And as always; Fort Hill was open for a total of 20 minutes all day. Overall solid first park day of the year, but still doesn't satisfy my craving for Snowshoe laps.

Lmao, son...... the jigs up, I told them I was your father and how you groomed OldStoke but I fucked it up and we had to start over with Abomber....... mebbe someone figured it out and that's where the 180° flat spin karma came from.....

But no reason to hate on ol Dad anymore

That's to help you set your sag. But beware, the linkage curve on some of those Evils allows you to find 30% sag for your weight at a pretty wide range of air pressures, so it's not all that helpful.

Sooo i’ve had a slope bike and bmx bikes. I have no clue what youre saying. What does sag mean? Why is a wide range not helpful in this situation?

Guess I'll answer this before Skierman tears you a new one.

TL;DR: Google (or ask a shop) how to set up your suspension, it's really, really fricking important.

Sag is how much the shock compresses under you when you stand on the bike in a dynamic position. It's the first step in setting up your suspension properly, since it helps you set your spring rate (air pressure on an air shock). Most bikes, and most riders run around 30% sag in the back. So that little nubbin should rotate when you stand on the bike, and expose writing that says 30%, that lets you know that you're in the ballpark.

BUUUUUT that's unhelpful on this bike (and others where a wide range of spring weights can result in approximately 30% sag for the same rider weight, the old Hightower LT comes to mind...) because there is one value of air pressure that will allow the suspension to preform the best for your weight and riding style, and usually we find that number by adding or removing air until the bike sags around 30%. So if you can get to 30% with a wide range of numbers, you're sorta screwed and need to adjust by feel to find that one correct number.

You should really go to a shop, or a very trusted friend, or watch a lot of YouTube videos explaining how to set up your suspension. You're paying a lot of money for all those knobs and clickers and linkages and bearings, and setting your suspension up properly will have a huge impact on your riding experience.

I dont fear skierman so its cool. I’m totally fine with being new at something and learning by asking this thread and not feeling ashamed even if i get called a fucking gaper.

but cool. Never knew the name for the compression percentage. 30% seems like a lot to me. And the linkage seems excessively engineered but im still excited to go out and ride it once my collarbone is cleared.

ill take your advice and take it to slopestyle here in breck

Went out and self filmed this video today. Just wanted to test out some new camera setups, not really going for the greatest riding ever.

found out my dslr is kinda trash quality, but I still like the depth of field. Is it worth using for video? I used the dslr in the first 3 or 4 riding clips for reference

Pump through the apex of the turn. I like to weight the front on the bike and push out when i get to it so my weight transfers back at the end of the turn.

Or just use 15 psi lol

Have a Morgantown buddy who goes out there to ride sometimes, speaks highly of it. I have yet to check it out, just have too much good stuff local in WV to make time for the trip.

Ya they’re actually my home trails dude I was playin ? If you’re ever in michaux I could show you some cool spots

Ahh gotcha

Appreciate it man! Likewise, if you ever come over to Motown, we've got some good stuff going. Dirt jumps, steep & raw shuttle runs, etc. Decent portion of my ig feed is from our local spots.

I dont know shit about tech stuff but was the SD card too slow or something? Every now and then there were pretty clear shots but then the rest was hella distorted. Trail looks pretty rad though.
