Official Euro 2012 Thread

yeah i hope the Holland is going to win, its gonna be a huge party here if they do.

unfortunately i don't think they will win, but i hope so

small video of our army, sorry for bad quality

germany has to win a title rather sooner than later. they were arguably the best team in '10 and also played good in '08 and '06.

i know most key contributors are young and all, but i have this feeling that (especially with lahm, schweinsteiger, neuer, kroos, müller and gomez from bayern) some of those players need to win a big one right now or else they will never win anything major, like ballack.

bump

2 days left! pretty excited for this, anyone else get tickets? i am going to spain vs croatia on june 18th, so stoked!

Biało-Czerwoni! POLSKA!

Ireland first. Netherlands 2nd.

if Ireland didn't get jobbed 2 years ago, I would have pulled all my weight that direction. Instead I got to get disappointed in the finals by stupid defensive play. Still happy to see the Dutch take off Brazil. That was downright insanity.

Anyways, Aiden McGeady's gonna tear shit up this tourney - least I hope he does.

I remember seeing in some article somewhere "Ireland is everybody's second favorite team".Seems true. If somehow Italy and Croatia fuck up and Ireland make it through that would be enough for me to have enjoyed the EURO

Is anybody else bouncing off the walls in anticipation of the marquee fixture that is the opening game of....

...Poland...?

...versus who...?

...Greece...?

fucksake.

I fully expect a 0-0 draw for that one.

Either way, both teams are pretty solid, if you like defensive matchups I guess.

Its like Ghana were everyones second team at the world cup.

I'd love to see Ireland go far if England dont.

love the usual nonsensical opening ceremonies, followed by what is usually the most boring match of the tournament...

however i'm hoping to be there in 2016 when it's in France all the same

Random Question, but to get tickets does it help to live in Europe? Also does it help to be a partial citizen of a European country?

pretty sure that this will be a draw. poland is at home, and normally those teams played better than normal. greece will not bend over as they are a little underrated because of the last tournaments results after 04.

no idea actually.

I believe in the past (using 98 world cup as an example) citizens were given first choice since it's in their country of course. But then everyone else registers online to buy them.

I looked into getting some for this one, but decided i really didn't want to go to either of these countries.

I don't know if anyone saw, but in the WSJ today it had a big article about Spain and how they are the favorites. Also it talked a lot about how if they won EUROs this year, they could be considered the best team ever. And by best team ever, it meant out of any team in the history of sports.

Azzuuuuuuuuuri!!! lol I'm not really a soccer fan but I have italian relatives so that's who I'm rooting for

Yeah... I'm actually surprised as well.. Though the poles are definitely amped up for this game in front of their home support...

that yellow card that built up to the red was a bit harsh, don't think he should have gone off for that.

either way i am happy poland is leading!

the greeks get what they deserve! ok the red card was not necessery and they should have got an penalty, but fuck them!!

And I was bored here at work this morning, so I made this big excel spreadsheet for our office pool. All I have to do is update the scores of each game and then it automatically updates the group standings and the bracket as well as everyone at the office's points ahaha, im pretty proud of it, not gonna lie.

Bullshit. 3 undeserved yellow cards, one producing a red, a missed handball... wow, the tourney really wants to give the hosts an opener win apparently.

Too obvious a pick. They are the favourite.

Greece with a totally unpredictable comeback for the point, and could very well have had the win if not for a great save on that penalty. Third string goalkeeper comes in and the first thing he faces is that, and he came up huge. Stopped all the Greek momentum that had built up after the tying goal. Still, happy given where things stood at halftime.

DAT SAVE after just being subbed in the game.

Right on, if they can get out of their group, I think they have a legitimate chance.

As for right now, go Czech!

Happy Greece got the tie, they're my second team as I also have Greek relatives that still live in Greece including my great grandma that is 98 years old
