Official 2012 MLB Thread

As an A's fan, I know I'm in a glass house... but HAAAAAHAAAAA i'm throwing stones...

Pretty obvious he was roided up with his output this year.

Little League World Seres started today, Go Canada! My cousins team was close to making it but lost 3-0 to this BC team

First since Randy Velarde turned an unassisted triple play for the A's in 2000.

reminds me of the one the sox pulled off last season. I remember seeing it and thinking how easy it looked. I know everything has to be perfect for it to happen, but nonetheless...made it look like a regular thing

speaking of the sox...the only thing more astounding than how bad this team is, is that somehow toronto is worse than them

Well after my comments about Melky I was due that one. 50 gamer ban for Bartolo Colon.

...That said, we just got Brett Anderson back last night who looked sharp as shit, and we have at least 3 guys we can pull up from the minors to fill his spot.

Aint no big thing for us.

holy shit

Red Sox, Dodgers Nearing Blockbuster

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 24, 2012 at 4:52pm CST]

4:52pm: Boston would send some cash to Los Angeles if the sides complete a deal Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports. Morosi confirms that the sides are close to a trade (Twitter links).

4:34pm: The Red Sox and Dodgers are closing in on a trade that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles, Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports (on Twitter). Hurdles remain, but the sides continue working toward a deal.

The Dodgers recently won the claiming rights to Gonzalez and Beckett. Gonzalez can't block a trade to Los Angeles, but Beckett must approve any assignment as a player with ten and five rights. Crawford and Punto cleared waivers earlier this month and can be traded without waiver-related restrictions.

The Dodgers have been willing to take on considerable salaries since their new ownership group gained control of the club at the beginning of the 2012 season. Adding the four Red Sox players would represent a substantial financial commitment:

[*]Gonzalez will earn $21MM per season through 2016 and obtain a raise to $21.5MM for 2017-18. The total exceeds $130MM when accounting for the remainder his 2012 salary.

[*]Beckett will earn $15.75MM per season through 2014. As noted above, he must approve any trade.

[*]Crawford will earn $20MM in 2013, $20.25MM in 2014, $20.5MM in 2015, $20.75MM in 2016 and $21MM in 2017. His contract allows him to block trades to two teams.

[*]Punto earns $1.5MM per season through 2013.

[/list]

The Dodgers claimed Cliff Lee on waivers earlier this month after trading for Shane Victorino, Hanley Ramirez, Joe Blanton and Brandon League. The Dodgers would have to place MLB players on waivers before trading them to Boston, which could complicate trade talks.

At least we (Seattle) finally got rid of Brandon League.

Dodger's sure are making it interesting though. Wildcard standings definitely point to a very entertaining remainder of regular season play.

I'm sorry... but the Astros... my god haha.

Hahaha oh my god 20-2 Oakland over Boston. What a bonanza.

Forget the Wild Card... I wan't the AL West division. We're 1 game back of the Yankees with the 2nd lowest payroll in the league (beaten out only by San Diego by like 120k or something silly)

Yankees Record: 75-56 Payroll? 197 million.

Athletics Record: 74-57 Payroll? 55 Million.

Yeah. for 1/4 of the price, the A's are striding it out with the richest team in the land. Forget the 20 game win streak, and the Moneyball movie. This Oakland team is the most surprising of all. All bow to Billy Beane.

at this point I'm actually happy to see the sox getting crushed. They deserve the kick in the ass, and hopefully it gets them moving in the off season.

clemens graphic is hilarious. I still think he should go in the hall, but force him in as a red sox player. He was at his best with them, and was years from the accusations.

for the first time in like 6 years, i feel its safe to come out on a forum and say go oakland! haha athletics all the way!

I burnie till i die

Reds magic number is down to 8. They could clench by Tuesday if the Cardinals keep fading like they are. Hoping they wait until Friday though so they can do it at home.

Did you just pick all the worst possible teams for that playoff bracket? haha.

Anddddd another Walkoff for Oakland. Brandon Moss... Was originally looking overseas at the beginning of the year for a job... then hit over .300 and smashed 15 over the fence in Sacramento, and now's batting .280 for oakland with 20+ homers and is batting cleanup. Billy Beane, you fucking outdid yourself.

90 wins!! 5 games left! 93 wins clinches us a Wildcard spot, pending what the Angels do against Texas.. Winning out gives us the division outright.

Really hoping the O's can surpass the Yankees for the AL East, then the Yankees lose to either Oakland/Texas (whoever takes the other wildcard).

This double wild card shit is going to be vicious.

I would absolutely love for The Yankees to have to play Texas in the wild card... and for the Angels to miss the playoffs completely...

Would be priceless.

yeah i want the Orioles in the REAL playoffs. the 1 game thing is kindof lame, even if it does make these last few weeks hella exciting.

i know the Jays are obviously not relevant this season, but i was at the Jays/Twins game tonight and it was super exciting. fyi
