Official 2012 MLB Thread

Cargo better go to the all-star game. And I'll give you 10 reasons why:
1st in NL in runs 45
t-3rd in NL in hits 68
2nd in NL in HR 14
2nd in NL in RBIs 45
5th in NL in AVG .329
1st in NL in SLG .623
3rd in NL in OPS 1.016
2nd in NL in XBH 30
3rd in NL in AB/HR 14.8
2nd in NL in RC (Runs Created)

i dont mind him. i mean hes only 19, can you imagine going through all that at 19 years old? it MUST be overwhelming. he just needs a few years to chill out and hopefully nothing drastically bad happens before then

He plays the game hard. If a somewhat-veteran, say 26 year-old outfielder for the Nationals played the same way, I don't think critics would look at that negatively. Sometimes he does some shit that seems annoying because he can simply get away with it, cause he's that good. It's kinda scary to wonder how good he'll turn out to be. Ever look at rookie footage of stars like Derek Jeter? They look so much smaller/in-experienced.

I think Bryce Harper is a tool. He hasn't put up the offensive numbers to deserve that kind of hype he gets. He also acts like he's been in the league for years which just goes to show that he has a huge ego because he's still a prospect in my eyes. He'll always be a prospect too until he can put up the numbers everyone claims he'll put up. I don't blame Hammels for hitting him at all, its was kind of like a "bitch you haven't done shit in this league so stop acting like it" kind of hit on Hammels behalf.

Yeah but at the same time you can't blame Harper for doing what the media has done to him. The media is gonna have their ways and make him out to be the next Babe Ruth if they want to, it's not like Harper is actually saying that stuff. Not disagreeing just responding. The dude is pretty cocky, it's the way he plays the game. In my opinion you gotta be a little cocky to play baseball but it's probably pretty easy for him to come off arrogant considering he has been of the best players at every level of baseball he's played until now.

dub post whoops. anyways, what is he supposed to do? that ball is going to Cain. It will be in a trophy case the rest of his life

ESPN needs to stop using the term "Perfect Game" to describe every no hitter. Calling Santana's 5 walk no hitter a perfect game is an injustice to what Matt Cain did tonight, a true Perfect Game.

They didn't call Santana's a perfect game... They called it a no-hitter, which is what it was. A perfect game is facing 27 batters and putting them all down. No hits, walks or errors.

Do you remember Santana's no no though? I believe it was Beltran, that clearly hit it off the chalk and it got called foul.

obviously i know what a perfect game is....on sportscenter they have been referring to no hitters as perfect games as if its synonymous. i specifically remember them saying perfect game for johan because i got seriously annoyed

You need to calm the fuck down. I have the up-most respect for Santana coming off of shoulder surgery and being able to throw a no-hitter. Did I say that he should be stripped of his no hitter? no. I clearly just stated that when chalk flies up into the air, it's a fair ball. That's the game though. There are no play reviews and going back. What happened, happened.

the next batter hit a routine double play ball that would have ended the inning and the cubs would have gotten out of it without any runs scored but their shortstop clanked it. that fan interference got blown out of proportion due to the magnitude of the situation.

some good ones from MLB memes on facebook today

probably should be used to it by now, being that it was there with roughly the same field dimensions for more than half a century prior to the blue jays' existence.

Last night on the other hand sucked. Didn't get out of there til almost 1:30am. Not the latest I've been at fenway, but not too too far off.

Come to think of it, this whole red sox homestand had been a mess. Went from scorching hot to perpetual rain.

The all star game has become such a joke recently with it being mostly a popularity contest. Yes, I'm from Chicago, but konerko, sale, Dunn, and maybe even peavy should be much higher in the voting than they are currently. Dunn may not even get a nod for the derby, even with 23 homers, right near the league leader. Last I checked, konerko has the best ba in the al and sale has the best era. O and peavy? Comeback player of the year. Reattached muscle surgery two years ago and he's back with strong pitches. Fucking Midwest anonymity.

saturday was an awesome night actually. today was good too, but that was it for this homestand. a week and a half of extremes....oh well, 7-2 isn't bad for a 9 game run.

There is a second wild card this year isnt there? So like 5 team make the playoffs? Or am i retarded? Does this mean 5 teams make the playoffs? So as of right now the yanks, chi sox, and texas are leading. with the angels having the first wild card. Does this mean the baltimore with 45 wins would be the second wild card and toronto is only 3 games back?

Sorry for all the questions.

yes, 5 teams from both the NL and the AL. 2 wild cards on each side.

top team from each division and the wild cards are from the remaining teams that have best records.

What an idiot Lawrie is. X-rays negative he has a 'calf contusion' whatever that is, But fuck be more careful

frontrunner for nl mvp right now?

i gotta go with Cutch but im really biased because im a buccos fan lol. but i cant even imagine the pirates being where they are without him. watcha think?

welcome to the AL East, where you can be behind by almost 10 games, and yet still be 1 game out of a wild card spot.

Also, cody ross is boss. Exciting finish to tonight's game. Didn't get to see it since I was assisting with a certain english soccer team that happened to visit, but oh well.
