NSers in Fraternities/Sororities

Though I'm not part of it I heard one of the largest frats at UNH just got busted for illegal possession of fire arms as well as I believe narcotics with intent to sell.

I stopped reading at NSers. I then proceeded to spit bullshit all over this thread.

haha, I go to PSU and along with child rapists, we have the largest Greek presence outside of Greece. It's fucking disgusting around here... the amount of natty alone consumed by our 60+ frats could fill an Olympic pool in about an hour.

Sigma Phi Epsilon at WSU.

the haters have limited experiences with greek life, and/or love to generalize cause it makes them feel superior.

It is what it is, i still regard it as one of the better decisions ive ever made.

sigma pi at berkeley. never thought it would really be my scene but im surrounded by some of the smartest, chillest people i know.

House parties are usually more fun... fuck the frat bro's that are ego fueled pricks...

but honestly some frat parties go hard as fuck. Not all of them are pollo wearing bro's.

My buddies at EWU are a shit ton of skiers and boarders.

Just be friends with people IN frats. Access to parties, pledges to do shit for you without dressing up in a suit and paying dues!

i don't really know how it's like in the US, but in belgium fraternities or student clubs like we call em are pretty chill, i'm in one for 3 years now and don't regret it!

perhaps because i've met a lot of people from my classes there and it helped develop a good relation with assistants and professors ...

so i think they're pretty different from the US ones ...

i don't think we have such a negative connotation to it ...

In the good ol US of "eh", fraternities are all about drinking piss flavored Natural Light beer (the cheapest beer in the world) and fucking as many whores as humanly possible. It is also where you can invest lots of money in a group of "friends" that you really wouldn't hang around if it wasn't for the frat.

I would assume that in Belgium, your student clubs are classy groups, where fine Dutch and Belgian brews are enjoyed, and being social involves more than just sticking your dick in everything that has a crusty vag. I very much envy your student clubs.

lol, main difference i think is that our clubs are open for everyone and that the course linked clubs (like the chemists or engineers or biotech, etc...) are also recognized by the faculty and basically function as a middleman to communicate or problems/needs towards the faculty ...

+ no doubt we have better beers :)

As someone who is pretty anti-establishment myself, I'm pledging Pike this semester (initiating this Friday, fuck yeah) and I don't regret it one bit so far.

Sure when you're pledging there's some bullshit that happens but you have to realize that not everyone in a fraternity is a douchebag. As a guy who used to be totally anti-greek, I can see where the haters are coming from. It's NOT simply paying for your friends. Dues are so that the fraternity has money to do things (aka throw parties, have retreats, donate to philanthropies, have money to start fundraisers, etc.)

This is NOT buying friends. Throughout your pledge semester, you build friendships that will last longer than most friendships you'll ever have. My pledge class is extremely close and we'd do almost anything for each other. You can call that homoerotic, I don't care, but don't hate just because you haven't experienced it.

i heard you guys raped someone, killed someone in a dd accident, and are like $4 trillion billion in debt on ur house.

Theta Xi right here. There have to be some other pledges out there right now as well. So far I haven't regretted it one bit. Helps my grades, forces me to be involved, and also forces me to attend office hours while having a TON of fun.

Sigma Chi at villanova. not every fraternity is just all 'bros,' and it was easily one of the best decisions of my life

don't be pissed you're a geed

I was a founding father for Sigma Pi at UCF. Been out to boulder quite often but never made it over to the Sigma Pi house. I was surprised to see 2 other Sigma Pi's on NS.

Being a founding father was a way different experience than most fraternities. For our first 2 years we were building, shit was rough we had no idea what we were doing but we grew and it was awesome to be apart of building that.

They're pretty chill here too its just common for people (especially "skier kids") to hate on them cause they have NO IDEA what its actually like. Or they have no idea what its like to go to a school where any guy who isn't socially retarded is in a frat and any girl worth looking at or talking to is in a sorority.

kappa sig at USC

They must work really well since none of my classes are in the cabinet, right? I mean, it couldn't be the mandatory 10 hours of study tables a week, the guys who have the same class as you, the people who took the class before, the mandatory office hours, or the minimum GPA requirement. Hmmmm... maybe the fraternity has nothing to do with it then?

Oh wow, im sorry dude, you should get out more. Utah frats are terrible. Im not speaking from a stereotypical standpoint, ive been to a few frats and have a few friends in greek life (most of them completely bailed after their first year). theyre the epitome of douche bag institutions, i dont like greek life in general, but 95% of the people ive met in greek life (frats and sororities) are complete fucking ass hats. If you enjoy it, then go for it, I just dont understand how you could bare all the douchebagary around you.

Does any one know where Mr.Huck went too? Havnt seen him in a while.

He is a Kappa Sigma!

I know. It's so fucking retarded to get good grades and get your money's-worth. Also, fuck making connections with your professors, who gives a fuck if they have connections for you after school. Such horseshit!

Lambda Chi Alpha at UC Riverside during my undergrad says. Met my best friends through the fraternity.

You can literally do all that by studying and doing well in class. I've heard this academic excuse before and it's ridiculous to say the least.

AEKDB siggies takin over newschoolers. In my opinion good, traditional, southern Greek life is about as far opposite as you can get from the stereotypical newschoolers culture. Always nice to see others who can bridge the gap and enjoy both.

except we do.

the only time I've ever enjoyed a fraternity was when I watched american pie beta house.

I like that movie because it's a movie but if it was real life I would hate all of those guys so much.

before i transferred i was in Kappa Delta Phi. it turns out that the school i transferred too does fulfill the stereotypical asshole frats that have a 3:1 girl to guy ratio. i would never think about pledging to a frat that has guys like that. my old school was much smaller and never turned anyone away, i miss partying with those guys.

I don't understand why frat life is considered "Greek life" or like you just said "Good, traditional, southern Greek life". My campus doesn't have any beaches or anything of the sort.. The university seems to be doing well financially.. I have Greek family and I've been to Greece, I'd like to know what you mean by Greek life?

I think its because they are all greek letters that show what fraternity is which. Hence greek life.

And even though I was in a fraternity I never called all the members my "brothers." I have a brother and it would be an insult to him if called some of the guys in the fraternity my brother.. Everyone looks at it differently
